We have ANPR cameras on every main road into and out of any village or city and many, many more on the main roads within. I want to know how is it that it is possible for anyone to steal any car ever and get away with it? It should be a simple matter of flagging all the various networks with stolen number plates then track the journey and find out where they have taken it, perhaps they could intercept them before they get there. I was disqualified 37 years ago for failing a random breath test by being 20% over the limit. Therefore I became registered as a criminal. Interestingly I haven't had an accident in 50 years since I passed my driving test in 1974. I recently discovered that my criminal record will continue until my 100th birthday. In a recent episode of Police Interceptors the officers said that any person banned from driving is considered dishonest and untrustworthy. I don't break into houses, rob banks or attack people. However, despite that I am considered to be a criminal and a danger to others until I am 100 years old. Something wrong here with the law. I am a soft hearted gentle man who cares for others but somehow the law thinks I am a dangerous nasty man who hurts people. I therefore conclude that the law is complete madness.

I wonder how much it would improve the safety of drivers in the UK if they actually fixed the roads. I just drove from Dublin to Hamburg this week and do it a few times a year. One theme I notice is the south of the UK is the only place with truly awful roads including motorways. You can see the direct affect of this as its guaranteed that you will see breakdowns and crashes in the UK but it is highly unlikely to see anywhere else on the route. During the summer when I did the drive I seen someone in a Porsche SUV driving on the rim after a puncture because their was no hard shoulder because of a smart (dumb) motorway which made them most likely afraid to stop. Until this tech can be 100% effective in who it selects I don't think it should be used as some drivers could be constantly targeted by these systems because of an unusual driving style. This is not AI but a simple algorithm to detect specific patterns, companies like this are 20-50 years off true AI, they just use the term as a marketing gimmick that seems to have worked here. Saying that people who drink/drug drive are disgusting people.

I think taking drink / drug drivers off the road is a good thing. The problem is that the focus on speeding and drink driving means that nothing else is actioned. I drove the length of the M6 last week and the poor and dangerous driving i saw was breath-taking; poor lane discipline, lack of observation, people being mobile chicanes in lanes 2 and 3 doing 50mph, tailgating, overloaded trailers, unsecured loads. Where is the enforcement of these offences? The moment any of us touch 80mph on the motorway, we are getting a ticket and 3 points. The narrow focus of road policing down to speed and drinking driving is a real problem. A genuine question for the Officers; how many accidents are caused by speeding /drinking Vs the number that are caused by poor driving skill? (when i watch any dashcam videos it certainly seems to be the latter )

I’m 100% behind catching drink drivers, and as someone who drives HGV, I’ve noticed the massive increase in people using their mobile phones on their laps, increase the penalty for mobile phone usage, the huge problem I have with this technology is, what data is retained from the cameras, is the data collected stored on a database somewhere and for how long, what is preventing the data from being shared and abused by insurance companies who already share black box data to stealthily increase premiums. How long is it going to be before this technology is abused, are they governed by the data protection laws? Put more real police officers on the roads and stop wasting money on technology that will never match a traffic officer’s instincts.

All the big-name car companies gather your conversations, texts and calls from your car in new vehicles. They do this automatically if you don't opt out. The kind of information collected varies from personal information like medical data to how drivers are using the vehicle itself - such as how fast they drive, where they drive, and even the music they listen to. Both Nissan and Kia are noted to allow the collection of information regarding a user’s sex life. Eighty-four percent of the reviewed car brands share personal user data with service providers, data brokers, and potentially sketchy businesses, according to the report, with 76 percent claiming the right to sell that personal data. Fifty-six percent are willing to share user information with the government and / or law enforcement if requested."

PMSL you will be driving outside of the normal parameters as a traffic officer even when off duty. You will also find that people insured with certain insurers are more likely to be impaired along with driving certain models of car. UNLESS the full model (training data) they are using is disclosed then this could be what they are doing and nothing more (with reference to impairment). The important question is do they have or had access to the MIB and DVLA databases?

Genuine question: Is an AI’s 60% success rate grounds enough to pull a driver? Doesn’t there need to be a reason (I don’t think, “Computer says ‘Yes’!” is, perhaps, good enough…??

Well done! Meeting soft tally targets via artificial intelligence software. Shoplifting, robbing pensioners, and serious offenses possibly going unchecked, whilst using AI software and making social media comments could potentially get you locked up. UK 2-tier policing at its finest.

It is dangerous having friends sometimes, come on have 1 cigarette or come out & have one drink of alcohol. Next thing your drinking & smoking till your dead or perhaps you stop drinking after you have crashed into someone on the public highway but I think some drivers who have crashed into someone will just be like I need my alcohol & get into a vehicle & start driving whilst over the drink drive limit. When you signed on that dotted line to get your provisional driving licence that ment you will always follow The Highway Code & don't drink alcohol & get in a vehicle & drive. DRIVING IS A PRIVILEGE NOT A RIGHT

Does it detect cars that are not MOT worthy eg lights not working ? Seems to be an increase in questionable cars on the road these days.
@baron5747Ай бұрын
That will be the next step for this technology, but as it's in the infancy of usage, these trials are there so that the developers can iron out any faults. Like alluded to in the video, the cameras themselves aren't evidential, or use to prosecute. But merely a tool to detect offending drivers, so that a Constable can use their powers to stop and investigate.

Anything that gets drink drivers, drug drivers, phone users, etc., off the road is an excellent thing. I am now 74 and have driven for over 50+ years, various vehicles. Never had an accident, nor speeding fine but sadly seen countless idiots on the road. You can be law abiding but it will not keep you safe from the others.

There's nothing that bugs me more than when someone is using a mobile phone whilst driving so a camera that can identify this and get these people off the roads is a positive in my books - same with DUI I can definitely understand people's anguish over the tech in it's infancy, but sooner or later I would like to hope more cameras can be fitted to identify certain dangerous driving behaviours (or even retrofitting some speed cameras). At least when it comes to phone usage or even something like tailgating, the images could be admissible in court as evidence

I like this channel I really do, but I draw the line at cameras looking into you cars AI or not, cars are a personal space and it should remain so. I don't use my mobile phone while driving, I never have and I also hate it when people use their phones while driving, but I don't agree with cameras looking inside your vehicle.

@AnthonyTravis-yq8fyАй бұрын
As both a retired police officer and registered nurse working in A and E, anything that helps with road safety is welcome. The majority of drivers who commit these offences probably haven't seen the consequences. Perhaps taking them in a resuscitation area in A and E and showing a victim of a drunk driver etc., might shock them enough to reevaluate?

@paulbiggs552326 күн бұрын
I think this is a good idea, providing the actual drink/drug test is carried out by a Police officer (rather than 'assumptive' fines being wrongly sent out). My concern however is that I live in Cornwall with our nearest Police station now being twenty five miles away (the nearest local one has been mothballed and, although it is claimed it will reopen, there is no actual sign of that happening) and it is a red letter day if we even see a patrol car. Not too long ago a small group of locals tried to report a crime, the local PCSO wrongly claimed that we could not report it and refused to take the complaint seriously, we then waited over 45 minutes only to be cut off on the 101 Police line before getting answered and eventually had to resort to reporting the incident on line with no results, or response, whatsoever. Suddenly, however, D&C Police have whistled up the Policing resources for this scheme, but at what reduction to other local Policing?

It’s really straightforward, as the rule says: don’t drink and drive. It’s not just about risking your own life but also endangering other road users. Following this rule helps create a safer environment for everyone on the road. Hopefully, this will reduce the number of accidents and save more lives.
