Good stuff. Its a great tool that needs highlighted. not sure if you've done this - Ryzen Master can find the CO figures per core via the optimiser . once its does just apply them to a profile withj your overclock. be awre it takles 50 mins for a 5600.

I followed the steps in this video for determining the stable undervolt, and then tested with OCCT to ensure stability. My 5800X3D managed a -25 all core, really stable undevolt. I noticed that -20 to a -25 had a small difference in performance gains, and the stable boost clock was only increased by 10-30 MHz, BUT with lower overall temperature and power consumption, and by extension holding the same clock more stable. With the latest BIOS update having the latest AGESA, I changed the setting of the curve optimizer permanently. The result: It is WAY more efficient in normal operation, and IT BOOSTS LIKE CRAZY when required. I noticed previously while gaming that it BARELY reached to 4.1 to 4.2 GHz on stock, and was a spiky boost. Now, after the undervolt, it reaches 4.4 to 4.5 GHz depending on the situation, and holds stable at that with ease, occasionally spiking to 4.6 GHz, all the while with lower temperatures. I encourage you to try it. Even if you are unlucky, a -10 easily yields a significant difference in stable boost, it stabilized at around 4.3GHz in full load in my tests. I have a 4090 on my system, and undervolting really made a difference, as it feels like the little CPU bottleneck that existed is now gone! A 5800X3D with an undervolt and an AIO cooler ROCKS. A couple complimentary things that can make your experience with this CPU even better, especially with a GPU like a 4080 or 4090: - Couple it with decent RAM on XMP, although nothing too fancy is required. Surprisingly, RAM on XMP at 3200 CL16 is enough to unleash this CPU, you don't really see any difference with anything better than this. Having DUAL RANK RAM sticks (google it if you don't know, it has nothing to do with dual channel), however, does have a significant positive impact, at some cases at least. - Set your games (and any other heavy processes you need to perform) on High Priority through process/task manager on windows. I am surprised at how few people do this, it really makes a difference on any CPU. Ryzen chips may need it even more than the latest intel chips, since the intel ones have efficiency cores that undertake background tasks. As such, it falls to the user to nudge the OS to the right direction.

wait so is doing it in the BIOS the same? cuz I went into PBO in my BIOS and saw the core voltage setting, so I set it to “All Cores/OFFSET:Negative/-30” is this essentially the same as using PBO2? I lve been running it for the past 2 weeks and haven’t had a crash, have much lower temps, and do see the card boost to 4.2-4.4mhz occasionally depends on the game if it stays there. I notice in Cyberpunk it doesn’t always stay boosted, is that normal?

PBO2 is the same as BIOS and Ryzen Master, the difference is that every time you restart your pc it will go back to the default. PBO2 is good for testing but once you get a stable offset for each core, using Ryzen master or BIOS will make that every time you startup or restart your pc, the values you have registered remain applied.@@_N4VE_

I think it's better advice to include corecycler as part of your stress testing. It's really good for telling you which cores are causing instability, allowing you to undervolt other cores further.
@kokumosu

This; Cinebench is not good enough to use as a stress test; yeah it will find it and crash to give you a ball park, but CoreCycler is the BEST I would love if it was scripted to lower the voltage more on passing cores the same way it increases on a failed core

@@TheBURBAN111 I agree, after a stable 10 minute Cinebench run, I tortured my system with OCCT and everything was fine. In MOST cases, cinebench 10 min appears to be a good indicator. I did this like 6 months ago after watching a video by fr33thy. In his video he had you copy pbo2 tuner, name it pbo2 tuner 2, add it to the start up apps and after setting each core to -xx you don’t have to do it every time you power on your pc. I’d rather not need to open it and plug in the numbers every time I power on my pc. Thanks for the video as always!

Thanks for the video. One thing I learned, was that you should run a stress test and keep a close eye on HWinfo and specially on CORE EFFECTIVE CLOCKS. Some cores might crash or stuck on much lower clocks, because all cores are not equal. So I almost guarantee, that you have to raise some core's level separately. Your machine might not crash, but it surely runs worse, as you would imagine. I learned this on SkatterBencher's "AMD Precision Boost Overdrive 2 & Curve Optimizer Explored | SB#24"-video. Very, VERY good info!

Ryzen Master. Totally automatic testing tool to do a per core undervolt...
@mrsuperselenio5694
@mrsuperselenio5694 Жыл бұрын
Okay... soo this isn't exactly "undervolting". AMD calls it "Curve Optimizer" and it basically tells the CPU that he can boost the frequency higher for the same amount of voltage compared to stock settings. You could truly undervolt if you use Ryzen Master or in the BIOS PBO2, where it allows you to adjust not only the PPT (Package Power Tracking) which is basically all the power in Watts that the CPU will pull and this can be reduced to do the same work with less energy thus making the CPU run a lot cooler. TDC (Thermal Design Current) basically the estable current (Amps) that the CPU will have available for the "undervolt" you saw in the video. EDC (Electrical Design Current) this will be the value (Amps) that the CPU will have, in charge of the frequency for when the cores boost. You can also undervolt manually in the bios but you will be setting a fixed value for core voltage whether its idling or boosting but doesn't perform as well as PBO2 does, as the chip doesn't stretch it legs as its meant to. For anyone that finds it useful in the future my 5800x PBO2+CO has a CO -30 all. PPT 130W. TDC 85A. EDC 110A. Air Cooler : Artic Freezer 34 eSports duo. Ambient temp 24ºC. At stock settings clock frequency 4850Mhz single core, 4550 multi core, max temp 89-91ºC stress test after 20 minutes. Gaming temps 70-75ºC. Idling temps 48-55ºC. With PBO2+CO settings got me same single core clock 4850Mhz. 4750 Mhz multicore, max temp 74ºC. Gaming temps low 50ºC during gaming, 60ºC spike when loading. Idling temps 30-35ºC. Had a +50mhz single core boost but would keep my gaming temps at 60-65ºC with 0 gains anywhere else. Had an stable 5050Mhz OC no CO, but constantly running at +80ºC while gaming with minimum performance gains. Lowering CO to -20 to increase frequency increases temps, not an option for me, I am a sucker for efficiency.

I used Ryzen Master as well and I'm happy! In terms of stability, I had some issues only once, so I went in and raised the level of my lowest core by 1 and it took care of it. I test by making a run through the least optimized areas in Star Citizen. That's the best real-world torture test I've found. I'm running a 5800X with a Scythe Fuma 2 air cooler and before undervolting I would hit 90* in those areas. After undervolt, I run solidly at 83* (thermal throttle is 85) and very steady at 4.8-4.9 GHz.

FINALLY! A very simple and effective way to control the temp of my Ryzen 9 5900X. This thing was running 85-90 degree's every time I fired up a game. (iRacing, ACC, Way of the Hunter) It didn't matter what program or app I used, the temp would not come down. What did the trick tho really wasn't the instructions here but the "limits" tab in this program. Being able to actually set a temp limit is a God send. The out of the box speed for a Ryzen 9 5900X is 3.7. For me the curve limit was -30 but I run it at -25. I then set the limits to MaxBoost 4.3 with a temp limit of 65 degree's. I could push it more but I don't want to. Your mileage may vary. PS: I used the AMD Adrenalin software to monitor the temp and speed instead of CPUID during testing. I can recommend CoreCycler to test your CPU. I find this is really good at finding the cores with errors, and then you can back off individual cores. You need to edit an ini file to make it work but it is quite easy and it lets you pick the cores to test, duration, exclude cores when they error etc. When all seems stable I run this over night just to me double sure.

I'm building an ITX system here is my current results: 5600G in an ASRock B550M-ITX/ac motherboard CPU PBO: -15 -25 -25 -15 -25 -15 GFX PBO: -30 2x16GB Crucial Ballistix 3000 at 3333MHz 16-18-16-16-34 timings and 1.27V (I managed to reach 3933Mhz CL18 but the extra voltage and heat doesn't worth it for me) SoC: 1.115 -> 0.918V NorthBridge: 1.050 -> 0.990V here are the power consumption data from the wall, software readings are useless all over the place idle: 21W Aida64 CPU: 63W -> 56W Aida64 FPU: 93W -> 86W Heaven benchmark 53W ->49W PBO was hard set, because the CPU is heat sensitive, 1 core benchmarks will not show if the undervolt is stable, I could push some cores to -30 PBO if the temps are under 60°C, but fails over 65°C. The fastest stability test is heat up the CPU in Aida64, then run the memory and latency test, if the system not stable it reboots instantly. Originally I wanted 5300G but the 5600G is cheaper to get so maybe I will disable 2 cores if it gets too hot in a tiny case.

What got me the most temp drops but maintaining same score points in cinebench was disabling turbo completely and run it at a fixed speed. I run mine at 4.4ghz with a slight undervolt (i'm not sure how much). I have a small case so temps are important (NR200P MAX). 5900X: Stock temps: under load instant 85c PBO (similar testing like your video): NOT instantly 85c but gradually, PBO tries to maintain boost clock until the temp won't let it anymore and will eventually downclock to stock core speed 3.8 (in my situation) With fixed clock speeds and undervolt: i barely hit 80c, usually hovers at 78c which is more comfortable with me as the heat of my strix 3080 also passes through.

This has certainly made things much better for me after installing a BIOS update specifying "Enhanced performance for 5800X3D". All it did was run hotter and louder, and not any faster. I had set -20 in the BIOS which helped, but couldn't go any lower using the BIOS settings. Unfortunately, Cinebench is not a good test for curve optimizer stability - I had a 5700X that would do -30 all day, but would crash while web browsing. CO instability shows up at the HIGHEST clocks, which is at the LOWEST load, and Corecycler is the best tool for both testing and diagnosis; it has tests that simulate very low loads and tells you WHICH core has failed.

I prefer using Prime95 with both AVX2 and SSE testing to get my CPU stable. I was stable in Cinebench with my worst (by undervolting) core with -12 setting, but Prime95 was almost immediately crashing on both corresponding workers. By reducing that core to -6 it became rock solid. Other cores were way better with -15 to -28 setting. And yes, you can fine tune it on per-core basis, it just requires more time.

Save the undervolt values for each core in the BIOS. Ryzen Master has an automated utility that will test all your cores and recommend an undervolt for each core. Once you save it in BIOS you won't have to set it again until you do a firmware update (write them down somewhere). I undervolted my 5800X and brought my temps down to where I don't hit thermal throttle in the most demanding games I have and the CPU runs at full boost all the time.
