I’m glad you were able to find a buyer for all that beautiful top soil. That will be a game changer for building the pond. You’re going to get some great money to help cover the expenses of everything, and that’s awesome if they’re actually going to come remove the top soil for you. I’m in Vegas and had to buy a couple cubic yards when I landscaped my back yard some years ago. It’s not cheap stuff... well, not for dirt. Why I recommended selling it before and fortunately your buddy Dave told you also. Glad to see you’re getting some good help from people. I know you did your research, but knowledge and actual experience can differ greatly. That’s a massive project for you. Best of luck and best wishes for everything to go smoothly. I have over 2,500 hours (and $20k) in my backyard. It was back breaking work, but so well worth it. The pond will get there and you’ll get countless years of enjoyment. God bless you and yours and stay safe, my friend!

We split the difference on cut and fill. That is to say if you have twenty feet of fall, go down ten feet on the high side and up ten feet on the low side. You have get vids! Keep up the good work!
@bpmunroe3 жыл бұрын
@jason born - does that mean you are lowering water level by 10’? Do you then have to slop back the area outside of the pond on the low side to get back to ground level?
@jasone6793 жыл бұрын
Top of water is lower than the dam, regardless of how deep you dig.
@jasonborn93833 жыл бұрын
@@bpmunroe Thank you for the reply. l should have been more explanatory. Obviously, water sits level. The resulting pond would have a ten foot dam on down slope side and a ten foot cut down to the leading edge of the pond. It removes a substantial amount of head pressure on the dam. Since the pond is going to be smaller, it is most likely a moot point now.

Very surprised that you didn’t shoot grade when you were laying out the pond. Seems that would be a key piece of information needed to plan the project.

Looking forward to seeing your progress!

As I told @goodworkstractors earlier today -check out hoelscher db scraper pans for use in material moving needs. Once the big equipment leaves the site. Pulled behind your tractor they can help you smooth and redeposit your soil pulled behind your tractor. For $6k it’s a great investment. Hoping to get one myself!

I don’t understand why you aren’t excavating down on the high side to drop the overall depth of the pond into the earth and reduce the size of your dam. Yes it’s more machine work but if you ever had a dam failure in something that tall you would surely be in a world of hurt.

I would never tackle a job like this without a dozer on site. The 2 skids can't even compete with a dozer and it's a waste not having a dozer on site.... you shouldn't be now making the pond smaller you will regret that in the long run. Ditch the 2 skids and get a dozer and do it right. Push all your dirt to the far side.
