We still use our 2001 Zen , showroom brought, always puts a smile on my face when i ride , engine is just so nice, aggressive, calm, raw , refined and everything, sooo smooth the gear box is just butter. Its one year elder to me , I'm glad we still have it and that i ride it. I love it a lot , only the cosmetics and suspension needs restoration, engine and other components are still greattt.

In those days Maruti Zen was really fantastic & cute car for upper middle class. The famous slogan in those days, I can still remember on Maruti Zen was "A Jem of an engine & Jewel of a car". Can you make a programme on some more cars from Maruti Suzuki stable like a car, Suzuki Splash in Europe but Maruti Suzuki RITZ in India. A robustly build tallboy car which runs like a sports car with very good road stability with a nearly soundless, powerful & fuel efficient K12 NA engine. It needs very little cost to maintain IT, like "No problem Suzuki Samurai" Motor bike of 90's. S-Cross is another superb car which is also discontinued like RITZ.

A little bit of correction. Maruti 800 in those days used to come with 4 gears and had 37.5 bhp power. In 2000 the euro 4 maruti 800 in ex and dx variant had 5 speed gearbox similar to that of alto and it generated 47 bhp. I still have one maruti 800 ex and it drives absolutely fantastic even after nearly 140000 kms.

You forgot that in early 2000s when bs2 emissions norms where introduced mpfi engines were launched then zen bhp increase to 60bhp. We have a Maruti zen vxi, in that time can't compare this car with wagonr,alto others cars zen is way more premium than all of this car such a refined engine. Zen is a youth icon but Indian. Zen cabin is bigger than then alto and wagonr cabin. We will never sell this car.

Surprising to hear about the financial impact of the Zen on MUL! At that time MUL was riding high, encashing everything they had on 'shortages', and many people paid a 'premium' for early delivery! I remember people sold allotment letters for Maruti cars at that time! I also remember visiting the dealership to ask about the car's waiting time - the lady behind the desk just said, 'Six months' and turned away to do something else! Thanks to their arrogance, I did not care to enquire about any Maruti products for many decades thereafter! O! How the tables have turned since then!

M800 and Omni in their carb form used to produce approx 37 bhp but in 2000 when 800cc engine got fuel injector the power bumped upto 37.05 bhp in 4 Speed version whereas 5 speed 12 valve specific 800 which power terrain was directly drived from Alto used to produce 45 bhp whereas when zen got mpfi it's power increased by 10 bhp (60 bhp).
