If your car makes a clacking sound when you turn, first check the lug nuts. A friend of mine hit something in the road one evening in Dallas, and his front tire lost air. So he took his car to a tire shop just off the highway. They patched the tire & put it back on his car, but he noticed that there was a clack/clunk noise when he turned right the next day. Lo & behold, the lug nuts were all loose on that wheel.

One tool you’re going to need is a torque wrench the bolts to the struts need to be torqued to a specific tightness as well as the nut on the tie rod as well as the hub nut. Not all CV shafts have cotter pins on the hub nut. I recently did one of these on a 2002 Saturn and it took less than an hour. Anyone can do this job. Some cars will require a wheel alignment after disassembling the strut and reassembling it again but if you make a mark on the strut with a sharpie and line it back up again you can probably get away without doing an alignment.
@TheWilferch
@TheWilferch 11 ай бұрын
Caution...... the bolts and bolt holes on the shock strut that hold the wheel hub in place....many cars don't have an elongated hole in this area to change camber. Only a tight-fit circular hole for each of the 2 bolts. So taking the bolts out and back in WILL NOT affect alignement. Same deal when taking the tie-rod ball joint out and back in. The shaft is tapered and goes back in the way it came out......don't mess with the adjustment by rotating the housing....keep it where it is...and you'll be fine.

I was surprised to see you remove the bolts from the bottom of the strut, I was always told that even if your strut bolts aren't cam bolts the slop in the holes will change your alignment, we always remove the lower ball joint, than no alignment needed after repairs.

You have no idea what we deal with up in canada. Axle nuts on cars that age are unrecognizable that car is still mint. Theres none of that era corollas left on our roads here. Very few of our customers drive cars that age either. The salt and brine through the winter rots them within 4 years if not undercoated with crown yearly

Hi Scotty, Yet another great "hands-on" video. Question: "How" could the bad CV joint kill the customer? Some scenarios come to mind, but, as an example, when the CV joint in an old Chevy Citation went bad on the freeway, I just pulled over. No shrapnel, just a loud noise and then loss of speed.

Noticed the steering wheel less vibration and shimmy at 70 to 80 mph. If you do not have air tools, and electric torque gun is useful. or a big long pipe for a lever. Scotty takes the time to tripod and edit. The grease tip on the C Clip is spot on.
