Jonny, what an amazing story!!! So I grew up in Oklahoma and at the age of 14, I was cutting wheat for my Grandpa and earning as much money as I could for my first car. We had a movie rental place in Hobart, and I was infatuated with the movie Christine. Of course at the time we didn’t have the internet and honestly I didn’t come from a Family of car people, so at the time I didn’t know what kind of car Christine actually was. There was a yard sell about 10 miles away of from where we lived and my Grandparents wanted to go to it. I was looking and in the back yard down at the bottom of this hill set a black 1958 Plymouth Savoy, I couldn’t believe my eyes. It didn’t have an engine or a hood on it but I was star struck. I went to ask if the owner would mind if I go to look at it and he yeah of course. I immediately asked if it was for sell, he said yeah I would consider selling it. I had a thousand saved up. So when he said I’ll take $50 bucks for it I about fell over. Of course I had to ask my Grandmother if I could buy it and she said that I would have to call my Mom and ask if it was okay. Of course my Mom said there is NO WAY I would be buying this car, I told her that it was a really good deal but that didn’t matter she would not allow it so I had to unfortunately tell the guy I couldn’t get it. That still irritates the hell out of me every time I think about it. I went back years later and the people that owned the land had passed away and everything on that property is gone. That’s my crazy car story.

When I was 16, I was reading the local paper classifieds. It said something like, 'I have two MoPars that need to go. Not running. $50.' And I called/woke up my friend down the street and said, 'We're going to buy some cars today! Pick me up!' :-) The guy had 'lost the titles' but said we could file for lost title and gave us a letter saying he was selling the cars to us. A 1974 Barracuda (column automatic, bucket seats) and a 1968 Satellite Sport. To get them home, I duct-taped flashlights to the fenders, and pulled them home with my '68 Galaxie using tow straps. My friend wanted to have the honors so we made the very slow journey home twice, amazingly with no accidents or cops. The Satellite was nice with only minor fender damage. It was factory silver with a red interior. One day after school, my friend was in the front yard cleaning out the car (which he wanted for himself) and a random guy stopped and offered him $500. He was happy to take the cash. I'm sure it became a Roadrunner. The Barracuda had been in a decent front accident, needed all new front sheet metal and a steering column. It stayed with me a while longer as I tried to find sheet metal for it - but nobody in the area had straight fenders, hood or a column for that matter which had collapsed. This is long before reproduction metal. Same guy would come back every so often and try to buy it from me, and eventually he found my mom home while I was away, offered her $500 and she took it. Moral of the story, don't leave your cars unattended! 🙂

Holy crap! That’s an awesome story with a sad ending Snake Eyes. Do ever tell your Mom what that car is worth today? lol.

Yes she knew... 🙂My parents loved telling the story from their side. How the neighbor across the street (a banker) was very upset having to see that junker hidden in the bushes. And how the same guy who bought the Barracuda would come back and ask if we had any other MoPars or parts on the property. My mom was into cars but not so much into MoPars, other than owning a Chrysler Lazer a few years later. She preferred Mustangs, Cougars, and 50s Chevy's.
