Trailmater Offroad Recovery

Trailmater Offroad Recovery

Күн бұрын

We got a call for a couple vehicles broken in Pritchett Canyon. After much debate on what to take to get them out of there we decided on the buggy and Wile E. The buggy has a welder on it so we decided the wear and tear on the wrecker going in there wasn't worth it. We got to the vehicles and tried to get the dodge to start. It had lost spark the day before. After trying a couple things we decided to get the Volkswagen up to the top first. So we welded the tie rod back together then pulled it up to the top, it at least had rear wheel drive still so it could help out. Once we got it up to the top of Yellow Hill we went back for the dodge. We pulled it up to Son Of Rockpile Obstacle then winched it up over the obstacle. Then back to pulling it from there. We had to use both Wile E and the buggy but we got it up to the top of Yellow Hill also. As we started down the backside to head out tge tierod snapped on the dodge. It was late and dark and the shift candle on the buggy broke so we decided to come back later for the dodge. Shawn and Mike went with the VW to get him out the long way. I went back down Pritchett to the trailer and circled around to pick everyone up at the highway on the far end of the trail. Thank you everyone for watching and supporting us.

I see now why Matt always puts one of his team in the drivers’ seat “for insurance purposes” …. Someone who took the wrong vehicle to the wrong place and got it stuck should NOT be trusted for their driving abilities (or sanity)

Ya, I've thought about that before. Everyone has there own way of doing things. Hindsight being what it is, and taking into account the driver's style it likely took to get into the mess with the Tuareg, Rory probably shouldn't have been yelling 'GO GO GO." Rory got him schooled up with a few stern words.

I have been watching Rory for a couple of years now and I like his no BS way of handling stuff. A bit rough around the edges, but totally likable with the way he approaches the challenges of recovery and rescue. I like that he just gets right into the situation without a lot of preamble, such as the weather and other nonsense. Those who think Rory has an attitude are probably entitled jerks who do not appreciate a true blue collar type doing the work that most can't do. Reply

@@OldGlaseye-gf7si So, you want Rory to completely change his personality for just a few more subscribers?" I see NOTHING wrong with anything that he says or does! He routinely goes where most can't, and he does it while towing someone out. Rory is NOT a beta-male! I do not find his attitude in any way bad, or rude. You either like him and his videos, or you don't. Trust me, I would have a much harsher attitude if I was doing what he does. Three times the subscribers???? I highly doubt that. I usually do not reply with a critique of any KZbinr's behavior. I either like the content, or I don't. I made a comment on one off road recovery KZbinr in Oregon about some land owner not allowing access, and the KZbinr jumped in my crap about it, even calling me a liar if I did not agree with him! I unsubscribed, and I refuse to watch his channel. Rory has NEVER answered a subscriber's comment with such hostility. If your comment is centered about Rory's comment about people making their own trails, well, he is right!!!!! There are people in control in places like Moab that would like doing nothing more than closing the whole thing down. When idiots give these people ammunition then these trails get closed.

I was an hour and a half away from home had two dogs with me , a 16 foot flat deck trailer that I had just taken a big load of scrap metal to the scrap yard... I was about to drop off my dogs at my nephew's,while I went to get some parts for my other broke down vehicle from the pick a part...I drove down a dirt road to get away from the traffic, let me dogs out for a potty break,I hopped into the truck dropped it into drive ,or so I thought my gear shift broke off of the column and it was in park . I was royally screwed, no money to spend on a tow I prayed I had my hood up I was trying to determine just what my options were when a lady pulled up and asked if she could assist me. Well turns out she was a retired heavy mechanic and within 10 minutes she had me on my way🙏🙏🙏 I had drive and that's all I needed to get to my nephew's,from there we figured out that 98 f150s made their steering columns out of white metal and they suck... I'll be ever grateful for my special angel that stopped that day.

@@TheKrak97 It was still 4wd.. it just wasn't able to steer as the link coming off the steering box was busted. You can see the drive axle next to it still.

My thoughts exactly. We have been on the trails in the San Juan Mtns. I would never consider taking my JK into Pritchett.

This clearly showed why Matt almost always puts someone from his own team behind the wheel of the vehicle to be recovered. Because here it was not just the vehicle that was not suitable for this trail.

WOW, that was a huge amount of work, plus the cost of the equipment damaged due to excessive stress. You could see the frustration at times with Rory which was totally understandable.given all the issues plus the down time it will take to fix the equipment. KUDOS to the team! as well as for the generosity of the snacks. ALL Admirable, those that were rescues will have the biggest story of their lifetime as well as the video proof of it all.

Pritchett has a reputation, heavy duty rock & roll, big tires, lift, big shocks & strong engine. A VW (the one pulled out) was out of his league, never should have gotten near the canyon. Incredible work by TM crew, getting the vehicle out.

I will never cease to be amazed at the vehicles people bring out to this area to drive these rock trails. Some vehicles just are not modified enough to successfully drive these trails. Even the vehicles specifically made just for this area have problems with the terrain.

I’m sure it was said but an Ornithologist is someone who specializes in birds. And I know it’s been said but Rory, Shawn and Mike, you all make me want to move to Moab so I can hang out with you guys. So laid back and it seems nothing frustrates you, other than almost getting nailed by a toureg. Thanks so much for sharing these awesome recoveries.

There are times to go full send and there are times to not go full send. This was a time to not go full send. That was close! Taking a Toureg to Moab was as good an idea as taking a Cayenne down the chute at Sand Hollow.
