I think he figured out exactly what WotC wanted us to figure out. I'm calling this out as one of the first notable examples of WotC designing for a 3-year Standard. Functionally, the card doesn't really make sense in the DSK (it's completely unplayable in limited, as there isn't an "instant/sorcery" deck, as so many colors care about enchantments). It makes sense with the storyline, but it seemed kinda out of place as the only saga in the set, etc. WotC said one goal for 3-year standard was to be able to design cards to bolster specific archetypes/decks in standard, which wasn't possible before since they design cards 2 years in advance. Two years ago, when all the Blue/Black toxic cards came in ONE, everyone who tried this deck said the same thing: this could be a very strong deck, but it needs one more good+cheap card draw spell (for whatever reason, I remember Crokeys specifically said it needed a 3-mana draw three), and then, exactly 2 years later, we get this card, which can provide a boatload of card advantage in this exact shell for 3 mana, and calls back to ONE art.

@strangelaw63843 ай бұрын
@@crytical7 In the above, the listed "probability for each step" is the probability of getting any combination of two card types in two consecutive mills, based on the present state of the deck. For example, step 2) is the probability that two same card types are milled given which cards has already been milled/drew in step 1). I don't really agree with this math because, if we care about how many steps are in one trigger, then the probability of the upcoming two mills being successful should be under the condition that the last two mills were successful, not the condition that the last two mills and draws were those specific cards. So, I think step 2) of first trigger should be P(two successful mills given that previous two mills are lands and I drew any card) +P(two successful mills given that previous two mills are instants and I drew any card) +P(two successful mills given that previous two mills are enchantments and I drew any card) And step 3 has even more terms. Honestly, I wouldn't bother calculating the prob of having three/nine steps in one trigger. I would just monte carlos for the answer.

This is a great deck idea for getting graveyard casts using enchantments for spell slinging decks! Not relying on creatures or Flashback text makes is more flexible. New Tamiyo saga is almost exactly Jin Gitaxias/Great Synthesis❤. Graveyard hate and enchantment removal is a great counter to this deck, so a deck upgrade probably needs some protection for competetive play. Also Cut Down to me is not always great removal in Duskmourn....I am testing Freeze in Place, because being tapped 3 turns is sometimes a better option than killing opponents' creatures that have death triggers.
@edwardrobinson28533 ай бұрын
Being 2 mana and sorcery speed makes freeze in place very awkward though, particularly in BO1 vs all the red aggro, boots enchantments, gruul etc aggro it lines up really poorly compared to cut down which can prevent them firing off their pump spells. Cut down obviously still not ideal but I think much better in those match ups (and also against for example the tokens deck where you can kill forge tokens to buy time and fizzle the caretaker’s talent level up sometimes)

This is a really cool deck, but one thing I noticed was that against red buff spells you often removed their creature a step early, which means they get to save their pump spells. You always want to wait until they cast something right before damage is dealt
@J.Tarrou3 ай бұрын
What do you mean? Practically all of the creatures he removed against red/boros were in response to pump spells or were after the op tapped out for something else. Maybe you could say 32:10 was a misplay, but there's nothing the opponent could have for one mana that could kill him outright, op had one card in hand, and they were on a three turn clock. They might not even have played the monstrous rage if LVD hadn't cast anoint first. I probably wouldn't have if I were them.
@sambarney82443 ай бұрын
@@J.Tarrou you wanna let the pump spell resolve then see if they go for another, unless your removal destroys the creature and you're trying to limit heartfire damage
@J.Tarrou3 ай бұрын
@@sambarney8244 Not necessarily. Look at a card like Demonic Ruckus. If you let it resolve before killing the creature, op gets to draw a card, because the enchantment will go from the battlefield into the graveyard. If you kill the creature in response to it being targeted, Demonic Ruckus never makes it to the battlefield, which means op doesn't get to draw a card. Similar for Turn Inside Out and Felonious Rage, both of those cards give the creature a "when this target dies" effect. If you let the spell resolve before killing the creature, you're giving your opponent access to that effect, but they don't get the effect if you kill the creature in response to it being targeted.
@sambarney82443 ай бұрын
@@J.Tarrou you make a good point. I guess it really boils down to personal play style. I'd rather try and get the blowout than play it safe but let them keep some of their cards
@sambarney82443 ай бұрын
Although I would still defend waiting until the last possible chance to remove it in this case because it's an exile spell so it denies death value and because even if they have demonic ruckus, if you made them waste another card then they're only card neutral in terms of value
