While Karn did still have some oil in him at the time supposedly his spark kept it at bay. Back when Onslaught block was happening I'm pretty sure it was heavily implied that Argentum was infected by Jeska as she had very recently visited Phyrexia as Karona. Might have to go back and check my books though... I do miss the old novels. They are what really drew me into the game.

Darksteel/Mirrodin/Fifth Dawn was when I first learned of Magic, and tentatively started playing it; in that bit, Kaldra was my favorite thing. I've whined over years about how they've never gone back since Scars; we can visit Ravinca, Amonkhet, or Innistrad every year or so, but a combination of Mirrodin block's "broken artifacts", and New Phyrexia's Infect, seems to mean we just won't go back to this, my favorite plane, except in call outs from Horizons sets, and the like. Too bad. As for this card, I love it. A callback to my first favorite MtG thing, and powerful too boot. My only problem is I expect it will probably be expensive, and I'm uncertain how great it will be in Commander; my unfortunately most common means of play. It can't quite be a Commander, and Colorless EDH is asking for tough, even before a CMC 7 to call it. Still, it might survive the germ's death, without having to pay Command tax, and get equipped to a bigger powerhouse.

The storytelling in the sets connected to Mirrodin, not just the block itself, but all the Mirrodin related blocks, were the height of Magic storytelling in my opinion. It was amazing. The cards were relevant to the story. The mechanics added to the lore. It really was a perfect mix of what the game could be. And now we get a massive and interesting part of that story in a set designed just to excrete powerful cards designed to empty wallets. How sad. We, and Kaldra, deserved better. I'm sure we'll return to Mirridin before too long where the "plot" will feel like a child smashing his good guy Mirrodin toys against his bad guy Phyrexian toys until one of the two breaks and is discarded in favor of playing with an iPad.

You guys gotta understand mirrodin came out at the time of yugioh and yugioh had the concept of assembling a massive card from smaller parts. Exodia requires all 5 pieces of exodia in yugioh. So magic was like damn good idea and made the kaldra pieces you have to assemble

If something is both Indestructible and exiles any creature it does damage to, it could be a 1/0 and still kick ass. But the 5/5 (or 9/9) does provide damage for attacking players and planeswalkers. Oh yeah, there are effects that can reduce your damage like make creature -4/-4 until end turn. So ok, yeah 5/5 is nice, although there is -11/-11 (and probably many more such debuffs in the game).

Ummm.... it’s not as bonkers good as you think it is... if the token gets bounced or Path to Exiled you have an equipment that costs 7 to equip... not a very good place to be compared to the currently popular Stoneforge choice of Batterskull

Very rarely would I try to hit the activated ability it kills the mazes end plan more often then not , also foil field of the dead in the deck cuz like legit trynna win threw mazes end gatta have them blockers lel

How do you think the exile ability interacts with trample and first strike? Would it be like death touch and all but 1 dmg goes through or would it deal the full dmg to the creature?

Unfortunately, it would need to deal the full toughness-worth of damage before the trample would go through. The triggered ability happens after damage is dealt, while trample/deathtouch occurs while damage is being dealt, if that makes sense

no you have to still deal a full ammount of damage to it, although if your opponent does block with multiple creatures, you can spread the damage out between them without dealing lethal

The card states that the creature is exiled AFTER combat damage is declared, so naturally first strike, then trample as combat damage is calculated, then finally exile. It works as though the creature would still be in play after, however it is exiled.

I don't think about stoneforge, I'm thinking about tron. This is way better than turn 3 wurmcoil engine and arguably better than turn 3 karn depending on the deck you're playing against. If they exile the token you can still turn it into a 7/7 with karn the great creator or attach it to whatever other creatures you're running in the build.

Phyrexian lore didn't start with Karn, It started with with Urza and Mishra's war. It's covered in the Brother's War books wich came out thousands of years before Karn was created

I agree that the card is really strong and makes Stoneforge really strong. I don't think it breaks Modern or anything like that though. I don't think it is like Companions or Oko or Hogaak or Eye of Ugin Eldrazi or Standard UW Stoneforge or Skullclamp or things like that. Modern decks have shown they can deal with various aspects of Stoneforge be it countering or killing Stoneforge or disenchanting or being too fast or whatever. Kaldra Compleat is really good, but I don't think it will break the format. Also the idea of this on a Wurmcoil Engine or its lifelink token or on a Reality Smasher is genuinely a frightening thought. . Anyway no stress, maybe I am wrong and it is a lot better than I think.

I think its a good card but not broken. In alot of situations i.e death and taxes, a batterskull is better thanks to the bounce effect and having a recurrent threat. Oh you pathed, swords, mass exiled, or flickered my germ token, ill bounce it back eot and either cast it again or cheat it in. Kaldra can get stuck being a do nothing artifact some times. I think modern is too fast for the SFM package at the moment but if it does see play it will be in a tron shell.

As a casual EDH player, given that it is Legendary and also has Living Weapon, I'd houserule that it is a legal colorless Commander. Is it a brutalizer, in that regards? OH ABSO-FUCKING-LUTELY, but that's the fun of it. Not every deck must be low-power. I'd be fine running against this and fighting to the very bitter end.
