That's a lie , a cats life is usually about 16 years old. There's no way a cat can live to be 38 , that's twice as long as a cat can live , I would like to see you prove it , but you can't , you can always say what you want , and any paperwork you have came from a different cat , that would be like saying that my grandmother lived to be 200 years old , nice try !

I volunteer with ASPCA, i dont have any help. I have to feed 22 cats all on my own. It's hard for me to even have food muchless be able to get them all to a vet. Im not a wealthy person by any means, and it breaks my heart on the daily. I've had them all spayed & neutered thanks to the catch & release program . I just want so badly to be able to do more bc i love my cats so very much. I pray things get better so my precious cats will live their best, & longest lives.

My current cat is a 2yr old, spayed female. She gets all natural (No grain or fillers) wet food every day, enzymatic gel on her teeth to keep the plaque down, flea and worm treatments every 4 weeks, daily brushing (Long haired) and will be going for her annual vet check and vaccine boosters next month. I'm hoping all this will help her live a long and healthy life, though she doesn't appreciate it, apart from the food of course.

@@smulroy I am sorry to hear this. My cat passed away suddenly and tragically in my arms. After her death I realize that she probably had kidney disease and I didn't know it. I know some people don't believe that cats have spirits but I believe they have spirits now. She has comforted me MANY times after her death. RIP MISS KITTY losing her was truly heartbreaking but I know her spirit wants me happy, so I try not to dwell on that hard time of watching her die. She wants me to know she is okay and in a better place now. My cat was younger then yours. My best advice is take as many photos and videos that you can now and treat you're cat with more love then usual. That will help you when its time. I am so sorry hang in there.

We've had two cats live to be 24. Both were strays that we took in. One was what looked like a Maine Coon, but perhaps a mix. The other was an all black domestic shorthair. We've had many cats over the years, almost all were strays that either just showed up at our house, or who were given to us by other people when they showed up at their places. I do wonder about the benefits of feeding them some special items to help out with their longevity. It would be interesting to see some better research into that. But it's clear that Jake really loved his kitties and gave them a lot of attention and made sure that their environment was stimulating.

My oldest cat lived till 23. She was a feral farm bush tabby cat that I tamed. She was extremely affectionate, but a one person cat. My other cats lived between 17 - 19. I think genetics plays a role in their longevity, as well as being fed good food, fresh water and being indoors. A couple if my cats love wildlife programs especially looking at big cats and birds. My cats have a large enclosure, (where they can access the house), and 2 large gymnasiums. Every cat I've had have been rescues, each with a different story attatched to how they were rescued. One thing I found helpful when taking my cats for vet checkups is to put an unwashed tshirt over their carriers - it appears to calm them.

A clean diet and clean water. Not standard or even expensive cereal crap. Hydration is a big deal. I put glasses easy for them to drink from in window sills. Part of natural feline instinct is to seek out/ keep trusted water sources away from food.... smart aseptic technic to avoid contamination! Treat them like young children. Yes, felines are that smart, look forward to cherished game play and try to cheer you up when you are down... just like a young child.❤

My last four cats lived into their mid-to late-20s, one of them a couple of months short of being 29, but the 30s is truly impressive. It seems odd, then, to base a podcast on someone who has held two world records for feline longevity and then suggest people to do something different. Doing something that works makes more sense to me.

I would really like to see veterinary scientists investigate this case and other similar cases (like yours) and try to figure out how cats can achieve such extreme longevity gains. I've been interested in longevity / aging research for over 20 yrs, and these stories, in the context of what is known about animal lifespans, are remarkable. I can't think of another species that can outlive the 'in the wild' lifespan by so much. What do you think caused your cats to live so long? Were they in relatively good health for a long time, also [did they have a long healthspan]?

My best friend is in renal failure. I love him to pieces. He eats wet, dry, tilapia, and lightly buttered roasted chicken with a pinch of salt. He refuses salmon, eggs, and any form of vegetable. He likes homemade bone broth... sometimes. Every night I come home and make him "Special Dinner". He understands the term and expects it. I have tried countless ways of sneaking additional nutritional elements into his diet but he immediately detects and refuses it. I can not take his wet and dry because he is too thin to protest with a hunger strike. If anyone has any suggestions I would utterly appreciate it. He is ancient but his eyes are bright, he is not ready to go. ❤

Hi Karen, pls look for a homeopathic vet/ homeopathic clinic, it is quite easy for them to reverse kidney failure even in advanced stages. It takes between 2 to 3 months. And the remedy they give u can put in water so no stress for the kitty. Wishing ur kitty a full recovery ❤❤❤

I remember seeing the South Paws documenary back in the day, and reading an article about Jake Perry and his cats on Atlas Obscura. This video gives a good summary, but misses a few things I think are significant. Firstly, Jake gave all his cats access to fresh spring water. Given the relative weakness of cats kidneys, I think high quality hydration is really important. Secondly, he turned his back yard into a giant enclosed catio, so his cats had access to the outside world and all of its stimuli and opportunities for excercise, without the risks associated with free roaming.

@@BenState well there is that new Japanese medication (saw it on Rogan) that adds 15 years to a cats lifespan just by stopping the degeneration of the kidneys thats supposed to be available to the public next year and all their research is based on the fact that cats now don't really die of old age they get taken out by diseases they have never had a cat live to 60 but that is their best estimate ...the dudes name is Professor Toru Miyazaki (i should not have stated the life span as a fact its an estimate)

it's simple, he is rich. No matter how much you care if there is no money they will just die. I am just helpingsome stray to survive a little bit but most of them dies at 7, or 15. some can be lucky if they rich 20. I can't vet them, I can't give them good nutrition. I am just helping them to survive a little while. I wish i am rich and I can help all better and I can help more. I don't really pet them or hug them, i avoid too much emotional attachement because it will devastate me if they die. I have to put bounderies on everything. I wish I am super rich and i can save and help more animals.

Although the topic is fascinating, the narrator continually corrects all the perceived dietary flaws that the successful cat owner introduced into their lifestyle and eating habits. Q. Is the narrator present to combat rampant and evil disinformation? Q. Does he have a level of expertise exceeding that of the cat owner? Q. Or is he simply trying to over-ride the true story here with his own second-hand information gleaned from such reliable sources as "everybody knows," "studies say...," and "MY vet insists...". I'm not trolling here. The cat owner literally ran dozens of successful controlled trials on his feline companions over the years, and with measurable results. He didn't wear a labcoat. He didn't use a clipboard. He didn't run panels of painful, destructive, and worthless tests. THIS is TRUE SCIENCE, the way it was once conducted. He did it properly, and caused no harm, which is unheard of in contemporary medicine. He benefitted many cats, and IN A JUST WORLD, his methods would be lauded and studied further. Personally, I will follow the "science" based on empirical and repeatable results, over the suppositions of "professionals" who deliberately skew results to favor their hypothesis or to maintain their corporate-origin study grants. In other words, I'll do my own research, and follow researchers like the cat man. I do not need to be told what to think. But what would a narrator be, after all, without a NARRATIVE? 😮

I take the opposite view on the red wine. The dose of polyphenols in red wine is too small to really move the needle - cats and people probably get more out of coffee. Since cats' health is so dependent on taurine, I would look to a connection between ethanol and bile acid metabolism - or possible the gut microbiome. That said, I would never give cats any alcohol. This needs to be carefully & humanely studied by veterinary scientists.

Wrong use of 'their' in the title. The cat is mentioned in singular. "...Here is what its owner did" Had it been cats (plural), it would have been 'their'. Cats are male or female. They have no mental issues causing them to ever doubt that. Even if a cat is spayed or neutered, we still call such a female or male cat. So, not even a need for modern-day nonsense they them use. It's hard to see language being torn apart like that. And English isn't my first language.
