This was downright shocking! I normally find rich people’s homes way too big and gaudy, but Diplo’s home looks so homey and tasteful and stylish. Nice review.

Jamaican here ! Hi. There are 4 things I say Diplo has to deal w/ living in Portland, JA and in an open home: 1. Mosquitos (Lord, they are deadly). 2. Croaking lizards (annoying, not dangerous) 3. Rain and wind damage fr storms and hurricanes (we just had Hurricane Beryl sweep through the island) 4. Thieves/ Security issues (Jamaica has a high crime rate for a reason). No monkeys to worry about....its not that kind of tropical, lol.
@raddish42565 ай бұрын
I'm in Jamaica. Mosquitoes are not a problem most of the year. But when they come they come in droves...as long as you keep the place clean bugs aren't really an issue and most are harmless. Plus building in Jamaica is relatively affordable...for now.

It's hard to do big houses right so they don't look like echoing monuments to the rich owners ego. This house is big but still has a cosy atmosphere. I recently read that Melinda Gates (ex of Bill Gates) always hated the huge estate he built. After the divorce she bought herself a bungalow in Seattle and can be spotted walking around her neighborhood.

I love how he made brutalist so organic. Very cohesive. I like how the architect had fun with planes and levels and worked with the landscape. I live on Maui and have friends who live in open air houses in the jungle. I have stayed overnight. If you are not breeding mosquitoes close by, and you keep your food completely closed, and your floors are well elevated from the ground, the critters may come, but they also go. 😀 Me, I like my screens.

It wouldn't be my choice of a home design, although it certainly has that homey, lived in vibe. I love the breathtaking views of course. Regarding mixing different tones of wood, I've always went with that, and all for it. AIso, I recently went along with my cousin to view a 2 bedroom, den, and 2 bathroom apartment that she's looking to rent temporarily, and EQ3 staged the entire place with different tones of wood from light, medium, to dark wood, and it looked absolutely gorgeous, very homey, and laid back.

Agreed on a library in a home Phoenix, I am fortunate enough to have one in my place, it is only a 9'6" x 8'6" room, but is a library none the less. (plus what is referred to as the 'branch library'(which is just a shelving unit) in the living room. I feel slightly uncomfortable in a hose when there aren't any books, or musical instruments about.

Hey, - What I worry about is the insects (like you said), other animals and the weather (f.i.: Pouring rain, storms, hurricanes!!), how do they deal with that??? I could never eat there, do not like eating outside because of bugs!!! NEVER!! I would provide mosquito-net-doors (screendoors, that you can open & close) everywhere in the open 'walls' and sheer curtains from ceiling to floor!! Those sheer curtains move so beautifully when there is a breeze, wonderful!! And if there is too much wind you can tie them!!! And I would be sure to place those screendoors in every room, also the bedroom and others!! + Airco, or we would melt LMAO! - Kitchen??? Maybe they do not cook ROFL!!! - I would love to dive from my bedroom straight into the pool HIHI. - OMG, I wish I had that kind of money to hire that architect, that house is so beyond amazing!!! - I would love ice baths but when I would get in, big chance I will not get out anymore and my husband would have to call a tow truck (I have a severe chronic muscle-, connective tissue- and bone disease!). - I could only dream of a library, I see myself reading in a comfy chair by the fireplace (not a real one!) with a glass of red wine, al kind of cheeses and fruits, THAT WOULD BE AWESOME!! BTW: you shirt is so hot, love that!!! Love and hugs from an old rebel-Pinkie To Diplo: Way fi go man, love yuh house + Yuh fun !!! Lots a luck an success !!!

I can see a HUGE problem with this house: MOSQUITOES. Mosquitoes love forested land. Jamaica has a mosquito problem. Dengue fever Jamaica is experiencing a dengue fever outbreak, with the dominant strain being Denv-2. The outbreak is ongoing, with as of November 2023, 3,147 suspected, presumed, and tested cases and nine deaths. Children aged 5-14 are the most affected. I have had Dengue (I live in Guatemala), and you do NOT want to go there! There is a reason they call it bone-break fever. Extreme weather Jamaica has experienced a drought, followed by a record-breaking hot and dry summer, and then rain. These conditions have contributed to the increase in mosquitoes.
