With the Lysosome, when you modify it, each modification gives you something different. For example Lipase is the standard digestive capabilities, which you already have, but just increases your digestive efficiency, whereas the other two, Cellulase and Chitinase allow you to digest both cellulose and chitin membranes respectively; so it's best to have at least two Lysosomes to allow you to eat those two types of membranes. That's also why they were escaping out of your cell, because you could not consume their membrane.

@@electricheisenberg5723 Only 1 per lysosome and the efficiency caps at 60%. Pretty unclear from the tooltip. Seems the different types don't impact the efficiency. Was stacking loads hoping for over 100% but alas.

Stacking a single specialization of Lysosome doesn't affect the efficiency of your digestion, merely the digestion speed of the membranes it's tuned to. So there's no real reason to focus on any of the three, but extra Lysosomes DO increase the efficiency (by default, if a cell has 10 glucose in its storage, you only get 3 of that without any Lysosomes).

Also another way to increase difficulty is by changing to a new area after already settling in one, especially when you get bigger since removing parts of your cell costs you. It would be pretty hard to demolish multiple areas

Maybe you could get a more active ecosystem, by making sure your species produces a excess of Glucose? Something to enrich Environment? The issue is that for most parts, species are eating naturally occurring Glucose. Which is rather limited. But what if your species made Glucose as a side product, from CO2 or something else abundant?

Sadly the game does not let you photosynthesize excess glucose. Only digestion leaves a trail if you are full.

In real life, other species will have a big selective pressure to eat your species, so you basically become the lowest in the food chain, those who can make energy without the need of others, like plants taking it from the sun.

Doing a predatory plant run I figured out that if you have behaviour set all the way down to sessile it prevents total ecological collapse. Doesn't stop others of your species eating, just has them sit in place until something wanders close. Not sure how well it'd work for cells that don't cover their basic "staying alive" cost with photosynthesis though.

If you play on hard mode a good start is a chitin based poison and spike predator that runs on temperature in the vents and has AI tweaked to murder everything in sight. For a bonus add signalling agent and keep it on “become aggressive”

@@cumunist2120 You can’t really be a virus, but you can play as a parasite-like cell. Basically you have to stay small, but not too small so you get digested instantly and add a lot of toxins. When you get engulfed you hope that the engulfer dies first before you are devoured and then eat their insides

Very fun, love the complete annihilation of other species, reminds me of some hairless apes. Well you tried self-sufficient chlorophyll cell, a predatory alpha predator cell, what about a fast spreading, durable and efficient fungi cell? I love fungi, it's so weird and I am kinda afraid it will cause a zombie apocalypse.

At the scale of single cells, there isn't really anything similar to fungi. Fungi is a decomposer made out of millions of cells. I assume you mean something parasitic or a decomposer? With the new changes to engulfment, cells leave behind a trail of resource if they eat something too big for them to store, so something tiny that sticks to other cells and can't be engulfed might be able to survive off of their excess. So that might work as a semi-parasitic organism. I'm not sure if the binding agent works on enemy cells though. If not, i guess you'd just have to follow it or something, so that's more like a scavenger.

I liked how you unlocked the nucleus and then didn't use many of the parts it offers. I believe that there is a larger iron organelle that the nucleus unlocked if you didn't know.

Sadly there's not an iron consuming organelle as far as I know - the nucleus did kinda end up just being a big size increase and nothing else in this run haha! I expected to use the better toxin organelle but just never needed it in the end!

My first successful playthrough was as iron consuming bacteria that eventually evolved into a predator so powerful it destroyed the ecosystem. Funnily enough it also became so powerful it crashed the game, so I was quite proud of that run.

Also, Chitin is easily distinguishable because of the really dark edge it gives to outer membrane and cellulose, well, either you zoom in real hard or just see if your not-stomach can handle it.

The best predatory build in my experience is to photosynthesize glucose so you can spend your time finding other prey to eat and nothing else. The iron build is also good though because it's so abundant. However due to the lack of upgrades for the iron organelles, you need to use a LOT of them so it can decrease your speed. However if your goal is to engulf then extra size isn't necessarily bad. Personally I find engulfing is the most effective hunting tactic.

I tried this with heat consumers in a volcanic vent (so that I didn't have to worry about constantly searching for glucose or iron or anything) but I did not do as well as Lathrix did in this video
