We all know that we don't gain distance by pulling the disc into the power pocket, but this is so much more true for the swing path. In this video, I will show you how I was able to gain almost an extra 75 to 100 feet with basically an upshot swinging motion. This is not about strength but, more importantly, about technique. Danny Lindahl used to say slow is smooth, and smooth is far. This is really what you should think about before every throw. I also show you that your nose-up issues might not be what you think, but they can be fixed with the correct swing rotation. I want to thank everyone for liking and subscribing to my videos. If you found this useful, let me know in the comments, and please subscribe. We will have a giveaway once we hit 1,000 subscribers. Keep up the great work, and get out into the field and let it fly.

Hallo greetings from Denmark 😊 Thank you for your great videos, this is really helpful. I pull with my shoulders and elbow collapse. Looking forward too see how this helps 👍

I'm glad you liked it. A power pocket can look different for everyone but for me if done right. It is the difference between 300 and 375 feet.

Thanks, this helps! I'm pretty new and working on not rounding the disc when I throw. I've been playing for a bit over a month. And what you showed with the first slow motion throw where the disc is too deep is what I'm doing now. Thanks for the tips! Gonna practice some more today!

@@let_it_fly_dg yeah for sure, from his podcast. Enjoying the content tho, some valuable tweeks I am implementing myself. I was definitely not bending my arm near enough as I needed and started trying to fix this about a week ago

I am not certain, but I think it is partially about the off arm position. The further forward the off arm is (towards the direction of throwing) it seems like the less “deep” pocket you can get into. Everyone’s flexibility is going to be different, but I think it is the back muscles that are the limiting factor (if you don’t retract your shoulder).

Great point. This works for me, and the deep pocket doesn't, but maybe in the future I can implement it. I am also more accurate with my current swing path. But I think that is why we have so many different form factors when it comes to the pros. This is another reason why we have many different people with different opinions because some people can get into certain positions during their throw compared to others. I don't think we will ever get to a place where one form is the only way to throw. Dealing with small limitations will affect others in different ways. Thanks for the comment.

First time viewer first video I’ve seen thank you for a newbie to the game. I’ve already tried it and it’s worked great for me. Better accuracy more control.

I'm glad it helped. I like to explain things in a simpler term. But more importantly, if it makes sense to me, I can explain it in a way that most people can understand. What I really like about slowing down is the amount of control I get with the disc. Thanks for the comment.

Great explanation of the power pocket. Maybe some can throw well with the tighter elbow angle, but my arm doesn't work that way.

This is just the start of the video, I think there is more when it comes to the elbow position with rotation. I have been getting really good distance, but I really need to figure out with more field work, what is the cause for extra distance with slow reactions. Maybe I will elaborate in an upcoming video. Thanks for the feedback.

This was funny. I didn't know what it meant but I finally figured it out. Keep em high and tight Jeans, great phrase for the power pocket.

I hope it helps. I have been seeing real improvement with distance once done right. I will probably put another video together to help with the drill. If I hit it right off the tee pad, it makes a heck of difference with distance and low effort.

Great Video!! I still feel like ironically when you don't try to bring the disc forward with your arm your shoulder rotation allows the disc to come farther forward in the pocket as you start to push it outward.
@let_it_fly_dg
@let_it_fly_dg Ай бұрын
I agree, this is an issue I have right now. I have to restrain myself from allowing the disc to proceed to a deep pocket. I almost think once the disc gets close to my back shoulder, I start to push the disc out or away from my body. However, I have noticed torso rotation is important for this to work correctly. I will be making a follow-up video about this shortly. But it is a good start. Thanks for the comment.

Fairly new to DG, like 5 months in. I thought I was getting the backhand down, got my distance up to 270-300. huge accomplishment for me and my old joints, I started at like 50-80 ft. But it didn't feel slow and smooth, I could't figure that out. This whole time I was pulling the disc through my shot. I got a little excited after watching this rn, I went outside and tried it. I got slow and smooth, with good distance :) Needs work because Im still trying to go a bit too fast, but I am geeked to try an work with this technique. Thanks for the tips bro!

I hope it helps, come to find out you can improve your swing path if you slow down and focus on allowing everything to get into place correctly and speed it up over time. Strength is not as important as speed. You can be fast and not strong.

Very good video. I'm wondering about the shoulder, would you say you are keeping the shoulders even, or are you pushing your throwing shoulder forward compared to the off arm?
@let_it_fly_dg
@let_it_fly_dg Ай бұрын
Great question. For the most part, I usually try to stay hollow. Basically pushing both shoulders forward, but I have been experimenting with just the throwing shoulder. The most important thing is not to pull and try to keep both shoulders level. Basically, the arm has some stability so it doesn't collapse but the arm is loose enough to just hang on for the ride from the rotation of the torso.
