To anyone wondering about using this with a case, which I was too. From their FAQ page: "Can the hub fit on a phone with a phone cover, or do I need to use a USB-C extension cable? Lexar Professional Go Portable SSD supports phone cases with a thickness up to 1.6 millimeters using the provided silicone case. Without the silicone case, the phone case thickness can be up to 2.6 millimeters. If the thickness exceeds 2.6 mm, we recommend using a USB Type-C cold shoe adapter cable to connect your phone. However, since phone case thicknesses can vary, we suggest removing the phone case to ensure a stable connection and optimal performance."

Patrick, I was wondering if you can indicate which Rig you are using, or what might be your favourite to mount your iPhone on. There are so many different choices, and I just wanted to know which one you have chosen, as I don't see it listed anywhere on this video . Thanks btw Good video, and I am sold on this Lexar Ssd

I already backed this project (2TB + hub), but I would never record using the standard camera app. Black Magic Camera App is free, and you can record 60fps internally, and you can also pick other flavors of ProRes or even h.265 This is looking pretty perfect though I do want to figure out the battery mounting, I really like that cold shoe mount. I used to use a hub that included an HDMI port, so I could attach a monitor, but now, since BM Camera has remote camera control and monitoring, I don't think I will be needing the monitor at all. iPhone videography is really becoming a convenient and super powerful little workflow.

Really nicely covered Patrick as usual. Signed up for the 2TB and hub one. Can't wait to try it out. Right now I have 2 2TB SAMSUNG T7 Shield drives and one 4TB one. Paid $100 and $120 for the 2TB ones now selling for $180. And paid $230 for the 4TB one now selling for $315. So I'm good. :) Looking forward to receiving it to see how it works. Hope it can maintain continual longer shoots without dropping frames. Same specs though as the SAMSUNG T7 Shield drives. I'm going to see if I can find a way to use it with an ergonomic grip. :)

Hey Patrick, are you still using it, is it still good? I originally backed the kickstarter but after waiting two months for the shipping, I asked to have a confirmation or a refund and they cancelled my backing and refunded me. Got a confirmation a couple of days later and even received it at home by mistake but lexar wouldn’t let me keep/buy it. So, now I’m looking for an alternative, any suggestion? Or should I simply forgot that I had a great Kickstarter price and buy it?
@PatrickRambles2 ай бұрын
Hey! Still using it and still great. A bit weird that they won't let you buy it... Their mistake for sending it, now you have to go through the trouble of sending it back? Odd.
@stephanec60762 ай бұрын
@@PatrickRambles Yep, the whole Kickstarter shipping in North America was a mess and still can't understand why I was not able to send a a payment since they actually delivered it. They did send it when I was on vacation and simply left the package at my door, Lexar contacted me a couple of day AFTER the delivery to ask me to refuse the package since it was a mistake, they then asked me to organized the pickup to send it back 🤦♂ They finally did it but it took a couple of weeks and multiple email to get everything sorted out, what a mess! Just saw that they are starting to sell the hub by itself and that was the part I really wanted, so I guess Lexar will get less of my money ;-)

This is great, but I prefer the Hagibis MagSafe SSD enclosure. It allows any M.2 2230 SSD, it's a small puck, also has a built in USB-C pass through, and has an extra metal cooling plate accessory (which I haven't needed). It's also far cheaper and can be upgraded down the line, plus you can buy a reputable SSD that can have sustained speeds of read/writes. The concern I have of this is that some SSDs drop off in performance quickly, and some (like my T5) have data packets drop during a video stream which is hard to test with initial impressions. I would like to see how this is after the Kickstarter campaign finishes and there are some 1-month later reviews. If they can built this into an ecosystem like Moment did, I think it could be great!
@forthewin39105 ай бұрын
How have you been liking SSD enclosure? i saw that it could be kind of a struggle finding compatible ssds. And most 1TB - 2TB m.2 are about the same price as external ssds. Would you say its worth?

@@forthewin3910 I'm pricing out one now as I just went from the 14 Pro to the 16 Pro. I can build a 1tb magsafe enclosure for about $130 on Amazon right now. That's tax included. I heard this enclosure is pretty good as well.

Hey Patrick :) Just sent this message to Lexar in regard to iPhone 16 Pro Max compatibility. Curious about your thoughts. Hi :) Hope all's well. I made a pledge on Kickstarter yesterday for the 2TB Lexar Professional Go Portable SSD with Hub. I own an iPhone 15 Pro Max and it seems like this would fit great and be very useful. But I was looking at a video last night on KZbin about the iPhone 16 Pro Max features and apparently it will feature a new capture button along the edge on the right side as you're viewing the screen below the side button that turns it on and off. It's a type of shutter release that can also be used to swipe in and out running your finger along it. This also would be very useful. Looking at the Go Portable SSD with the hub and the Cold Shoe Adapter Cable it seems like it would cover this part of the frame. I'm wondering it the SSD and hub can be turned around to cover the opposite side of the phone which would place the camera lens on the lower part of the phone. Don't want to sign up for this and then not have it fit the new iPhone 16 Pro Max which I'll probably buy. Thanks very much for your help. Best, BC
@BCE-1115 ай бұрын
Thinking further I guess if this is being used with a frame the capture button maybe isn't so important when using the Cold Shoe Adapter Cable which opens up other accessory possibiities and other shutter releases can be used. And when not using a frame the hub without the Cold Shoe Adapter Cable wouldn't get in the way of the capture button.
@PatrickRambles5 ай бұрын
Hey man! I'm not 100% sure I follow what you're saying. The shutter button (if rumors materialize) would be on the side. The SSD either sticks out the bottom or goes around the backside (with the usb c adapter thingy). In what configuration do you see it blocking the potential button?

Why is this a Kickstarter project? Lexar is a big enough of a company that shouldn’t “beg” for money on Kickstarter. They should simply produce the drive and sell it like any other Lexar device on Amazon or their on website.

I think Kickstarter is being used a lot by well established brands these days. It's not so much about the money for them, but it's an excellent tool to gauge interest in a product.
