Great video! I have been having a hard time figuring out how these things fold and unfold. Its an interesting concept, but I think I will stick with an airbed in the back of the vehicle. Quicker, simpler, and more stable in weather.

I work for a company that installs RTTs and rack systems. If this is the Ruggedized Series Autana 3 you are over your weight capacity on the Thule rack system by about 30lbs. Rack is only rated for 165lbs. Tent is rated as 195lbs. I don't recommend using these 2 together, it's an accident waiting to happen.
@mikehubbard54936 жыл бұрын
It's pricey ,but I can really see the great benefits of that tent. When you pack up-everything goes with you. When your sleeping at least you can know that no snakes will get you up there on the roof, and the bears, and other wildlife will not have such an easy access. and you get into places that a trailer will not go.
@OutdoorsAllie6 жыл бұрын
It's definitely convenient, thats for sure.

The tent frame seems rugged enough, but I'm not sure it's a very good idea for that much weight to be on the top of the vehicle and the door frames.The price alone puts it out of my range. Interesting idea though.

Dont sweat the haters and negative comments in regards to the tent. I have the same exact tent and use it extensively while hunting. I just came back from a 2 week elk hunting trip in unit 77/81 here in Nevada right where Nevada, Utah, and Idaho all intersect. While there is some validity to the level of ease that comes with a semi-permanent hunt camp and atvs there are some hunters like myself who dont want the creature comforts of home while on a hunt. I enjoy getting on foot and away from the lazy road hunters. To be honest between me and a friend we can set up camp in 5 minutes flat and take it down in about 10. Most traditional hunters arrive in their respective units with pickups loaded 6 feet high off the bed with everything you can imagine. Camps get setup and then you are locked into that respective area or as far as the gas in your quad will take you. Set aside the con of closing up the tent in typically cold weather you have the luxury of setting up wherever the hell you want or even relocating to the other side of the respective unit if the hunting pressure is too much. I was hunting unit 77 and the road hunters were spooking the herd so I just folded up the tent and moved 40 miles to the other side of it. I ended up camping on this gnarly plateau on a trail that was very promising. The trail itself was only accessible by ATV or a capable 4x4 like my jeep. That night we heard elk bugling in the near distance right on the trail we were camped. The very next morning we located the elk 10 minutes up the trail. Moral of the story is the benefits of the tent far outweigh the cons. If you are motivated and are willing to immerse yourself in the hunt then this is the way to go but to each their own. Another positive is that if you do find the animals and they are far away from your hunt camp you can just go far enough away, setup and be on them first light. Plus being off the ground gives you a little more peace of mind with the things that go bump in the night. Now while the price of a ruggedized Tepui is up there as so is the quality..point blank you pay for what you get. You also forgot to mention the zip on bottom room that comes standard with the Autana version that is big enough for a queen sized air matt, cot, or for the dogs to sleep.

Jake the blaze orange is used for safety in hunting. Most know enough not to ever shoot if they see anything orange. Since a turkey can have blue and red look to it like a Pepsi can those colors are not safe in hunting areas. If you are camping during a hunting season even if you do not hunt having the orange is a good safety item. You could be in the tent just to grab something or nap in the middle of the day.

This style of clip base rack is not recommended for rooftop tents. The one shown in the video is the Thule AeroBlade load bars, Thule 480R towers and fit kit. This is also true for the Yakima Q-Towers and BaseLine systems (any brand that uses a clip). The reason it is not recommend is that once someone gets in the tent and moves around, their weight is pushing down on the rack and the clips have the potential to loose their clamping friction and slip out leaving a detached tower. You can find this information by downloading any Yakima SkyRise tent "Installation Manual". You'll find this on page 2 under the title of "Important Fit Information" the 7th bullet point down. This applies to all makes and models of all tents. At our shop this was the first point made by our Yakima Rep and confirmed by the Thule and Rhino Reps. I only mention this to keep you and the people driving behind you safe and no yard sales on the highway. Great presentation and very informative video. Keep up the hard work!

Looks to be a really well made tent. How does it handle high winds, any issue with the overhang area in the wind?

No issue other than a little noisy sometimes, but think that is the roof rack. It seems to start making a whistle noise around 70 mph
@daleofmesa16 жыл бұрын
I was questioning when it is set up. Does the wind ever get under the overhang and kind of rock the truck?

@happyhome413 жыл бұрын
I just purchased one, and note, your clamp-on crossbar mounting feet are NOT recommended by Thule (who now own Tepui). I followed THEIR recommendation, and the tent does not clear the rear mounting feet. Still unresolved as of this writing. Nice video.

Awesome information. I was wondering if there was any room inside when folded up for let's say a couple of pillows blankets or sleeping bags? Sometimes I think having that stuff in there can save on space elsewhere. Also I was wondering would it make any difference if the tent was left attached to the truck for a season or would that degrade anything?
