Great video! thanks a lot for all the info! now what happens if I want to use the CPL but I do not need the ND is it possible to have the ND at 0 and just use the CPL ?
@foxandcrowncreativeАй бұрын
Absolutely, thank you so much! This ND filter ranges from 3 stops to 7 stops and doesn't have the ability to go below 3 stops. However, I have this filter on my camera about 98% of the time and rarely need to take it of on all indoor and outdoor shoots. I should mention that my camera's native ISO is 800 and 12,800. So there's some flexibility there. But When I use it on my other camera, where the native ISO is 800 and 3200, I will still usually be able to leave it on most of the time. I hope this helps! Thank you so much for watching the video and for reaching out, it truly means a lot. Cheers!

Two questions: 1) Do you ever find yourself wanting to just use the VND aspect and being frustrated you have to also adjust your CPL rotation to not mess up the shot? 2) With the adapter ring screwed in can you still use your normal lens cap with you don't have the freewell attached?
@foxandcrowncreative7 ай бұрын
Great questions! I've been using a VND/CPL combo for a few years before I had access to the V2 and I don't really find it too much of a hassle to have to adjust both the VND and the CPL. But I do find myself adjusting for both fairly often in my work, so I think that's a big part of why. I could still put my Sony lens cap back on with the adapter ring but it doesn't stay on very well. For me, it's great to have the front cap and the back cap available to cover my lens. If I don't need the VND for a particular shot, but I still want an option to cover my lens in-between takes without removing the adapter ring, then I can just put the VND back in the case, flip the back cap around and that will magnetize to my lens. It's a pretty strong magnet and stays on really well when I have it in my bag, but I can easily remove it when I need to quickly get a shot. I hope this helps! Thank you for watching the video and for reaching out, it truly means a lot. Cheers!

Great video!!! But what do I need if I want to mount this filter to an smaller lens? I see different adapters, but can’t figure out what is right? Hopefully you can tell me what I need if I want to use it on more then one lens 🙌🏽

Thank you so much! I really appreciate that a lot. Absolutely I’m happy to help! Freewell has adapter rings for other sizes as well. You should be able to find them on their website and I think on Amazon. Here is a link below. www.freewellgear.com/en/v2-hybrid-vndcpl/1144-2150-v2-base-ring-cap.html#/49-dslr_thread_size-82mm I hope this helps! Thank you so much for watching the video my friend, cheers!

I want to get it, but I’m worried I won’t be able to use a mattebox with it as well. I heard the smallrig mattebox mini works with VND, but don’t know if it would work with this specific filter since most say “put the filter on first.” considering the magnetic aspect, maybe that’s a benefit??? I’d just need the ring and then I can put the mattebox on with just the magnetic ring, and then just magnetically attatch the actual filter? That’s the setup I’m seeking 🤷🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️

A valid concern for sure! I haven't had the opportunity to work with the SmallRig Mattebox Mini, but I don't believe that this filter system is compatible with a mattebox. However, Freewell has a mattebox option. I've left a link below if you're interested in checking it out. Although, I personally haven't tested this specific product, but hopefully it will help you to get you a little closer to what you are looking for in your research. I hope this helps! I’ve never had a variable ND with polarization. Can you turn that completely off? Like have zero polarization?
@foxandcrowncreative2 ай бұрын
Hey, great question! I truthfully don't know if the effect can technically be removed completely without removing the filter. Not all polarizers are created equal, but with this circular polarizer, I personally have had the ability to utilize the effect a lot, but also remove it's effect on the image when needed. I have this filter on my 24-70mm most of the time and I haven't had any issues with it so far, and love the images that I'm getting with it. I hope this helps! Thank you so much for watching the video my friend, cheers!

Great video, seriously considering buying it. Only worry is, what if I only need 1 or 2 stops though? Do you ever find yourself in this situation?
@foxandcrowncreative7 ай бұрын
Thank you! A valid concern for sure and something I thought about as well when I got the V2. After using it for sometime, I can honestly say that I haven't felt myself in a situation where I needed 1 to 2 stops. But this is just what's been working for me personally. For me, the ability to change filters and adjust the look and amount of light I need quickly has been a huge help in my work, but I might consider taking a look at the work you're currently doing and see what works best for you. And if you find yourself in need of 1 to 2 stops often. Also, if your camera has pretty good low light capabilities then this can be a huge help in terms of the flexibility you can get from your ND filter as well. I hope this helps! Thank you so much for watching the video and for reaching out my friend, cheers!

@@foxandcrowncreative thanks for your feedback, I decided to pull the trigger since the value for money it's a no-brainer. I guess maybe during sunsets or shooting indoors may cause that problem of needing only 1-2 stops, but I'll try to compensate it with the ISO (Sony a7IV user here), hopefully works fine. Cheers man, keep up the good work.

My question is how long until the magnetism wares off from heat and temperature changes. 1 year, 3 years? Main reason i haven't switched from screw on yet. 5 years minimum for the price to be worth it, imo.
@foxandcrowncreative5 ай бұрын
Absolutely, great question! Although I wouldn't know for sure, for me, the magnet seems to be solid in the amount of time that I've had it. It also has a locking system to lock the ND in place. Which is nice to have that peace of mind. It's truthfully been an amazing tool for my work personally. But I'm definitely interested to see how this magnet holds up in a few years. Thank you for for watching the video, and for reaching out with your feedback. It truly means a lot. Cheers!

Good point. My other freewell ND filters with magnetic caps are very loose, always come off in my bag.

Do you know of a matte box I can use with this? The screws don’t clear the 2 matte boxes I own. Would love to pair this lens with a matte box…
@foxandcrowncreative5 ай бұрын
Hey! That's a great question for sure. I don't unfortunately but it is something I have been trying to figure out myself as well. I do have filters for the matte box I currently have, but it would be great to have the option of using this filter as well. I'm sorry I can't be of more help! If I do come across a matte box that is compatible I'll definitely let you know.

What tripod are you using @9:45
@foxandcrowncreative6 ай бұрын
Hey! It's a tripod from a band called ESDDI, that I bought years ago. I don't think that brand exists anymore, at least not on Amazon, but if you type "esddi camera tripod" into the Amazon search bar you'll see a bunch of tripods that are very similar. SmallRig has one that look super similar to the one I'm using in the video. I've left a link to it below if you'd like to check it out. I hope this helps!
