If you want to visit Merida, and you are not very tolerant to hot weather: it’s better if you visit it on December. Don’t visit between May-April, it’s literal a sunny hell. Keep an eye on the hurricanes’ season between August-November. Bring sun and mosquitoes protection and a hand towel. You will sweat a lot. Most important, wear cotton based clothes and avoid all types of synthetic fabrics, even on bags. Don’t forget to drink sorbetes, agua de horchata, beer, eat tamales colados and visit the archaeological zones and nature reservations around Merida. In my opinion, whole state of Yucatán is better than the city.

Pete Pan I lived there for 5 years and got bitten by at least 5 different types of ants (not to mention mosquitoes, spiders and wasps), had 2 ants nest in my room, had rash on knees, elbows, neck and tights, nearly got dengue fever, almost had conjuntivitis and measles from the drinkers at my old school and lived through an hurricane. In Merida if you don’t have air conditioning, and can’t stand hot weather, don’t even bother to stay at home, even less your own bathroom,
@sirhoopalot14 жыл бұрын
Cotton is not good at wicking moisture away from you. It actually retains moisture and can get moldy quickly in Merida’s climate. Wear synthetics like athletic wear from Nike, Adidas, UA, etc or all natural wool.

@@aznarul Yes, everywhere exceptionally beautifully high styled has become too touristy so these places are too expensive and in a state of being destroyed. It's the case all around the world. Merida is more a common people every day place that probably won't be over touristed nor over speculated by international real estate investors. Common people places like that are best for friends, culture, fun, and work over cities where lots of international financial elite hang out.

@@kathyward9879 Hi Kathy. We've only been here two months, but so far we really like it. The first month wasn't kind to us between the huge mosquito bites and the bacterial infection we think I got from the food or water, but once we got past the major tasks (temp residency, a longer term place to live, understanding the medical system, a car, etc), we are enjoying it a lot more now that we can breath. Its a beautiful city where everything isn't very far away. Its a slower way of life compared to what I was used to, I miss Best Buy being an electronic geek, but that is outweighed by just how friendly most of the people are. We are also considering Guadalajara with its more modern city life and better climate which is more similar to Los Angeles where we are from, but we intend to stay long term in Puerto Vallarta if we can adjust to the very tough humidity during the summer and fall months. Time will tell :-).

Hey, Paul. I noticed you haven't really uploaded videos since the pandemic hit Mexico. Are you still living here? Do you plan to resume making videos at some point? I'm a Mexican who works abroad for over half the year and since discovering your channel have enjoyed your insights into the Mexican way of life as seen from a Brit. I hope you get to read this message.

Okay Paul I must make a clarification; when someone calls you papi in Merida it's like calling you "güerito" in Mexico city just an endearing way to clients.

2:51 BOCHO!!! 3:27 OTRO BOCHITO!!! (edit) There's a game in Mexico (and maybe other parts of the world as too) where if you see that Volkswagen model, you yell Bocho! or Bochito! while pointing at it and you get to punch/pinch the arm of whoever is accompanying you, I've been playing it since i can remember :P
@aaaa12345684 жыл бұрын
We do the same in the U.S.A but we say punch buggy

Fun fact: people in the Yucatan don't call them bochos, they're called volchos/volchitos.

Jaja, I didn'y know about that game!

AND, the volchito has to be yellow and to not be punched you have to say: “corto cable”. (Cut cable)

@laaneliz85944 жыл бұрын
