It's always fascinating to look at these older model kits, and even more so when you get one that was already started a very long time ago. Makes you wonder how old the original builder was, whether they improved as time went on, and I guess it can remind us of the first model kits we built as children, before all those snap together or Quickbuild Lego type kits came on the market.

MPC C1, C2, and C3 Corvettes had working suspensions from the beginning. They even had metal springs at one point. Then they started deconteting them. Chrondek was/is the dragstrip lights/timing system.

Those MPC '66 Vettes are very hard to find...I think I've only seen one, and it's the one I got when I bought a collection 5 years ago. And we haven't seen a '66 Corvette kit since 1966 so you have one of the few years of Corvettes that are really hard to find. I believe the chrome tree is from an MPC 1928 Lincoln Sport Touring, which would also have been the source of the black piece with the gun indentations. Thanks for the video -- I thought my '66 was missing its decal sheet, but when I saw what was on yours, I found that I did have a spare in my decal sheet box, so now my kit is a little closer to complete.

What a great find! Yes, those old MPC Vette's had working suspension...I'd love to happen on one that is buildable! By the way, Budd Anderson was later the "Kat from AMT" and was a large figure in car models in the 60's. I met him once around 1990...what a character! We all (car modelers) owe a lot to him and his imagination! Thanks for sharing!

Great find Matthew. I remember building kits in the mid 60's that had the little spring front suspension. I don't remember if it was the kit you found. It was probably the Mako Shark kit. Thanks for sharing and sparking a few pleasant memories of my youth. 👍👍

That's a cool Corvette. Take the parts that are glued together and put them in the freezer for about 24 hours. The glue will freeze and you will be able to easily separate things with less of a chance of breaking the parts. 👍👍👍

Chrondek is pronounced "kron-dek". Yep. It was/is the company that made rhe timing equipment used by NHRA and others. I remember when I was real little, like 4 or 5, going with my dad to Chrondek's shop in Pomona, a little north of the LA County fairgrounds to order, then back again some time later to pick up, what was then the only closed course electronic timing rig, for dad to use for road racing. He had a side business called Timing Associates and he and mom with a little help from me as go-fer (my 2 older brothers were never interested). We did Timing of all sorts of road racing in SoCal, from the Times Grand Prix, to Cal Club local sports car races, to motorcycles, to go karts, to slaloms and traloms in parking lots. The system used lights that shined across the track aimed at electric eyes to sense something blocking the beam, much as modern systems use, to trigger solenoids that actuated stop watches on the face of the box. Dad had watches accurate to 1/100th of a second. I would run the timing slips Mom wrote, to the people who kept track of who was leading.
