Abandoned & Forgotten Places
Documenting abandoned mines like never before!
Let's take abandoned mine exploring to the next level!
With your support you can help make this the best abandoned mine exploring channel on KZbin!
Shot entirely in 4K! ...so, turn up those video settings!
On this channel we go deep... REALLY DEEP into abandoned mines and tunnels all throughout the western United States. We researched some of the harder to find mines and hiked or 4x4 back into them to explore and reveal their hidden secrets. Many of these remote locations are filled with cool artifacts, antiques and unique geology that will have you guessing as to why the old prospectors worked so hard to find gold, silver, and other minerals.
A&FP moves just a bit slower as compared to other mine exploring channels. Gly discusses why the miners chose these sites and he points out the geology and minerals that got them excited. Veins of quartz filled with gold and silver made many men lose sleep in the 1800’s and early 1900’s and modern prospecting still does to this very day.
DANGERS? Oh yes, there’s allot of dangers associated with old mines. Un-exploded dynamite, blasting caps, bad air, bats, spiders, and snakes all find their home in abandoned mine shafts and tunnels. Oh, and let’s not forget rotting timbers, flooded passages and collapsing rock!
Gly takes abandoned mine exploring seriously with all the proper safety equipment, training, and experience necessary to do this activity as safe as possible but that doesn’t mean we can’t have a bit of fun along the way. “Gly”, your host and his band of crazy characters “Old Bob” (Gly’s Jeep), “Quackers” (Gly’s duck) and “Bobbie” (Gly’s hula girl) are sure to brighten your day with their comments and silly antics. Heck, they may even give you a chuckle or two.
Just like Saturday morning cartoons before the internet was invented, Abandoned and Forgotten Places uploads each Saturday at 7:00AM PST. (that’s 10:00AM for you eastern folks) so don’t forget to click that subscribe button and bell icon to receive notifications of new episodes!
Please LIKE, SHARE, SUBSCRIBE and COMMENT! All these things help grow our channel and your financial support helps us find new locations and helps put fuel into “Old Bobs” tank. Old Bob, thanks you!
Ok, now for the ugly stuff...
WARNING
Abandoned mines and ruined structures have many hazards and can severely injure or even kill you. Do not attempt to copy or re-enact situations or scenarios seen in this video. Stay Out and Stay Alive: • Gly Says... STAY OUT S...

Loved the site, the blue skies. Those people loved where they were living, or they wouldn't have bothered with a window at the table. I'd like to have lived there, but what would have been their water source and was it contaminated? It'd be a great place for children to run free(as long as they were educated about snakes,etc.) You could've had a garden and a flock of goats if there was a reliable h2o source...Awe. guess I'm just getting senile! I always was a hermit wannabe, wanting to live close to nature and not crowds. I just love the backdrop of muontains I'm seeing with this video. Heaven on earth!

Such an interesting lifestyle. Living in the Styx, moiling away underground. The drive that pushed these people. I can only imagine what their eyes saw every time they drove the face further into the mountain. Were they met with excitement at the possibility of a strike, or with dismay as they watched the lode pinch out with every shot. Thank you again for bringing us along. Stay safe, you two.

“Gly”: All of you are correct, that WAS a young Great Basin Rattlesnake and its rattles hadn’t matured yet. As much as I hate to admit it, it might be time for me to start wearing my glasses during explores. Lol I’m happy he didn’t feel threatened, but it just goes to show you that snakes really shouldn’t be feared because they just do what snakes do. Unless threatened, they just sit back and let the large animal / human pass by. Over the years, I’ve probably passed by dozens hidden in the rocks that couldn’t be seen but all didn’t perceive me as a threat so they just let me pass by without rattling.

During the late 1800's, the government really did not control public lands like they do today. It was easy for prospectors and miners to head out, find a promising outcrop, and file a claim. That made it relatively inexpensive to start mining. Even into the early 1900's, access was fairly easy. Firewood rights could be purchased from the FS cheap and easy. Today, obviously, situations have reversed and BLM and the FS (FC) would make this almost impossible for most people.
@dawnac6453
@dawnac6453 4 күн бұрын
Hopefully all that changes back to how it used to be. Back then u could actually live on ur claims in order to protect them but nowadays the BLM made it so you can’t and thus either u take a chance on leaving ur equipment at ur mine instead of having to pack it in and out and it then becomes vandalized or stolen (such as mine has been before) or u just have to pack it all in and out which can be VERY inconvenient if u don’t want it vandalized or stolen. Nowadays just anyone can go into ur mines and do what they want (even take minerals if ur not there to catch them) and we miners actually have no recourse because of how hard the govt made the mining laws nowadays.

Hello Gly & Laura. Really enjoyed seeing the unique Snake at 4:00 & 8:51!! That is definitely ‘Not’ a Rattlesnake!! Here in Texas it is called a Hog-Nosed Snake because of its upturned snout-like shape on its mouth just like a Hog or Pig has for rooting the ground; but I believe the one on the Snake is just for designating the Species of the Reptile! When this Snake is threatened, it will flatten its body, roll over onto its back to play like it is Dead’, and exude a musky smell to deter predators! This Snake also has a pointed slender tail (no rattle)! Rattlesnakes have a flat-blunt tail shape with a pattern of gray & black below the rattles and the Snake keeps its tail pointed into the air never drags it on the ground; I believe to keep the rattle from being destroyed! I used to catch and play with them back in the 1950’s; also, when they get too mad, they blow or make a noise that sounds nearly like a Rattlesnake!
