I'm not a fan of MBS (both as FIA President and because of who he surrounds himself with), but I don't think he should be the one the blame's placed on (or at least most/all of it) with how Stefano Domenicali's ran Formula One/FOM and a lot of the stupid stuff he's said and done against the wishes of most fans (Sprints being increased, wanting to get rid of practice sessions, actively blocking Andretti from joining, etc). This while promoting F1 to be an even more exclusive boy's club (not just for those in it but also the fans, with ticket prizes only being less and less affordable) and trying to hurt sporting integrity in favor of gimmicks. Sulayem's done and said lots of stupid stuff, but if we're gonna say someone in the high sphere is "ruining" F1, Domenicali deserves as much heat, if not more. That being said, what the FIA has done to the WRC is atrocious.

A lot of things being blown out of proportion... jewelry and piercings are banned in many sports (for good reasons and F1 is hardly known for being a low risk sport), the whole "swearing affair" is a bit silly alright, rather than going after the drivers mandate the broadcasters to "beep" if they want to keep it "clean"(however, using foul language during a press conference should be penalized). And I'm pretty sure Ferrari and Carlos Sainz were the first to agree with MBS' concerns regarding the Las Vegas circuit (but when you're up against a multi-billion dollar business, they have means to make you toe the party line, as became evident when the FIA had to throw out their own rulebook to make the race happen). And as you said, former FIA Presidents Balestre and Mosley weren't exdactly men of virtue with a sharp moral compass, they really make MBS look like a choirboy.

The FIA have ruined F1 since the 1980s, Ben Sulayem is the present day Jean-Marie Balestre, always making the sport harder to watch and pushing away the true fans from F1 and allowing the uneducated DTS crowd to oversaturate the fandom. Honestly, 2021 Abu Dhabi should’ve been a factor for F1 to ditch the FIA and considered having Indy Racing League being their new governing body or even make F1 an independent motorsport. The fact that he handed Verstappen his 2nd title in Japan 2022 with full points despite the race not reaching 75% distance, clamping down on freedom of speech (typical Middle Eastern dictatorship) and making up rules that Balestre would be proud of would prove how much the drivers and even fans are fed up with the sport and are considering Formula E, IndyCar and even WEC as better alternatives to entertainment in motorsport.
