The issue with squirrels is they're relatively unpopulated. So they're kinda lacking in good cards that support them SPECIFICALLY. I just built this deck to test it out. And of 3 rounds testing all the precons at once, it lost all three in last place. After rebuilding a Hazel squirrel tribal from scratch with no holds barred, I saw it could barely keep pace with goblin tokens or selesnia token stuff. Most of the sorceries to generate squirrel tokens are mode sorceries (of which some don't even let you make more than one squirrel) Not to say it's weak, it's just that there are better tokens to focus on. (Hydras, beasts, Krakens, goblins, humans, allies, cats, zombies, and vampires all have more support and equally benefit from the things that make tokens good) Sadly all the best squirrel cards are in the UN-sets. Yes Squirrelled Away is a token deck but it also provides most of the cards that you would need to actually convert it to proper Squirrels Tribal. Then even included the best squirrel commander and toski.

Bro, half of that "Eldrazi Unbound" precon was just manifest. Don't get me wrong, some of the cards that weren't Eldrazi were nice (like the colorless Cicada), but seeing stuff that might as well make this deck "Manifest tribal" really pissed me off. WotC had the perfect opportunity to reprint cards like Walker of the Wastes and Void Winnower, 2 very nice Eldrazi cards for a strong mid-late game boardstate, but chose not to. Not to mention giving us one of the weakest of the Eldrazi titans (Kozilek, the Great Distortion isn't exactly horrible, good for control with it's discard-to-counter ability and draws you to hand size, but they could've given us Emrakul or one of the Annihilator titans).

My friend bought it, it’s a very good deck for a precon. Blows a lot of home-brewed decks out the water just out of the box. You’ll also end up with a ton of squirrels by token generation.

A good deck is only gonna need 15-20 theme synergy cards anyways. Your required effects like lands, ramps, card advantage/selection, and interection are way more important than the amount of squirrels

My thing was that I thought it was gonna be squirrels AND food token tribal because I mean...Squirreled Away? Hoard your Tokens? On top of the new Forage mechanic? We talk about power level, but compare it to the Ixalan precons like Explorer's of the Deep and you can see why it threw so many off. Heck, they even took advantage of their new mechanic's consistently and in a very flavorful way (Pantlaza using Discover to cheat out more mana expensive Dinos and Hakbal making a playable Merfolk deck with an actual theme and win condition via Explore). Now I love Bloomburrow. It's such a breath of fresh air that's unique compared to the other planes/sets. The closest to it I can think of is WOE. I actually think Hazel is great, and having an on theme Chatterfang in the same deck is so sick. But compared to the other precons, its theming falls flat. Your best bet is to take the precon and remove half the cards in it. And that sounds like a weak precon, especially compared to the ones we've been getting since last year. I'm still excited for the set in general, but my anticipation for the squirrel deck has been tempered. Edit: Grammar

Funny thing about the Eldrazi precon. It was indeed bad, but when the new Eldrazi precon rolled out with MH3, I was able to sell my pristine initial precon for well over the price I paid- since everyone wanted to mash up the two decks into an ACTUAL eldrazi deck.

The deck is solid out of the box. It works as advertised, creating a ton of token, including plenty of squirrels. Obviously they weren’t going to include all the squirrels cards (Bloomburrow itself is now responsible for about half the existing squirrel cards because there weren’t many to begin with and they included some of the best ones in Chatterfang and Toski and the new ones from the deck are bangers). On the other hand what squirrels excel at is token synergies, and there are plenty of non squirrel creatures that can make squirrel tokens and they included some of them here as well. For my part I enjoy swapping out cards or merging existing decks for flavor or power. I already had a Chatterfang deck and I did get the precon because I wanted some of the reprints with new Bloomburrow art and also the best squirrels from the main set and the precon. I do think they could have chosen some better non squirrel token producers though, especially since squirrels in Bloomburrow have synergy with food tokens, they could have supplemented squirrel tokens with more food token synergies. But again, that’s the beauty of being able to upgrade the deck to your liking.

I must say when I played my buddies Chatterfang deck from years ago I felt misled the same way. Until I realized Doubling Season doesn’t care what the tokens are. Nor Eldrazi Monument, or Blood Artist either. What’s important is that they’re there and it’s just a little cooler if some of them are squirrels too

Honestly, all the squirrel deck needs is Academy Manufactor, Nka Cola Dispenser, and a couple more of the foragers in it. The thing already goes hard in food and treasures, so AM would double down on them, and give you extra fodder to forage with, and NCD makes the food self replenishing.

I had a similar thought for the flip deck, it had an ok amount of flip cards, but all but one or two were some of the most garbage ones they've had out for 10 years. @@spudster8887 Product names have a meaning. In areas like food products it's even common to regulate exactly how a product can be named according to what's in it. You can argue about that, sure, but law-based societies have long since adapted the view that a product name should actually reflect what the product offers. A name like "Squirreled away" definitely promises something the deck doesn't offer in the view of most commander players who understand tribal decks. Sure, MtG is a creative product, they generally have creative license therefore, but this doesn't change expectations when you read the word "Squirrel" and see a Squirrel be printed on the box. Also, I don't see what for you're defending the multi-million dollar company that is releasing a product on shaky ground here for. Also also, commander precons are entry-level products, so it is reasonable to assume that the bit of research you demand people do might just not actually be done by some players getting into magic through Bloomburrow.

Nah, 3rd! Back in Baldur’s Gate, there was the Red Blue ‘dragon’ deck. Except it was just a goad deck! Only about 10 dragons including the commander

The squirrel deck literally makes squirrel tokens and has the pieces for a chatterfang infinite. If that’s not enough squirrels for you than that’s a you problem

Just add helm of the host and attach it to your squirrel commander and next thing you know your at 50 squirrel tokens in like 4-5 turns
