It turns out that the bad trainer in Gold and Silver didn't fail because he thought of his pokemon as tools. He failed because he didn't have enough knowledge of strats.

It makes sense. No one doing challenge runs is stymied by Silver after the second battle unless they have that bad a movepool. Meanwhile, defeating Blue can be hard in every place except the fourth battle, but especially the fifth and champion battles are run-halters.
Just insane. What amazes me more than his knowledge of the game and nuzlocke, was how clear his explanations of every single strat used was, to the point that even someone watching nuzlocking for the first time could easily follow his thought processes.

@@saravananjeeva5258 yes. But nuzlocke restrictions are arbitrary to begin with. This has more restrictions than a normal nuzlocke, but nuzlockes have more restrictions than the base game. Not to mention Jan adds restrictions beyond basic nuzlocke rules as well.
@baqly2 жыл бұрын
@@Mijal15 i think the difference between nuzlocke rules and the ones he describes as arbritary are things that doesn't really change that much about the game but just add more gimmick on top. Nuzlocke changes the way you play the game completely while some of those rules could just keep the game the same to a normal nuzlocke
@Mijal152 жыл бұрын
@@baqly I totally understand what you are saying and where he is coming from. But that in itself is an arbitrary condition for calling something arbitrary. You (and possibly Jan) may see it as "gimmicky" but where is the line drawn between gimmick and feature? Only catching 1 Pokémon per route restricts your options, only catching unevolved Pokémon restricts your options. Why is one more arbitrary than another? They are both restrictions you place upon yourself to change how you play Pokémon.
@danfelder80622 жыл бұрын
What he means is that the impact of the choice doesn't always correlate meaningfully to a specific outcome. A choice like "no overlevelling higher than a gym leader's highest level pokemon" is made to prevent grinding past the point of challenge. Banning in-battle items makes battles harder and damage more consequential. Only allowing first stage pokemon that have evolutions is different, because it has highly variable impact based on the pokemon available; as pokemon like chansey are stronger than many evolved pokemon. As such, the rule feels like a more arbitrary restriciton, similar to a restriction like "I can only use [okemon with three or more syllables in their name" would be.

I believe it moreso panned out as a plan B to make sure that even if Ludi goes for a drain move, it would be in range of Facade, when it might be out of range otherwise.

thanks for bringing such a cool high level nuzlocker to our attention!! i’d be curious to see your reaction to flygon hg’s renegade platinum hardcore nuzlocke

Been watching Freezai for a while and I'm glad he's got your approval. Dude is a legit competitive beast. Guys like you and him are the reason I'm even still interested in Pokémon

I found Freezai’s channel when he was still a pretty small creator, glad to see him grow a lot. I’ve always enjoyed his video’s a lot.

Holy crap, props to the editor of this video. I was there for the live recording at the subathon and I was convinced that footage (literally he did 1 take) was not usable. The ad came same as always wtfff

26:36 It's only the level difference that makes this remotely possible, PC. If Staryu is had to also hold the _Magnet_ from the trick house, it bypasses below -150~ SpecAtt EV's, which is needed to kill here without a magnet or other damage booster.

That was a crazy play through. Working on my 3rd attempt at a ruby nuzlocke and seeing more of these analysis play throughs help

I just can't imagine doing this. Like, I've done a number of Nuzlockes, but planning one out to *this* degree... like, it's super impressive, but I just can't imagine having a lot of fun with it.

I really enjoy seeing Jan review other highly skilled Nuzlockers. It's how I found FlygonHG, now it's time to start watching more of Freezing.

Freezai is no joke. I remember discovering his channel back when he was just starting it out, he's explaining all kinds of obscure mechanics that lead to some giga brain strategies in Showdown. If I had to guess one youtuber that isn't primarily a nuzlocker but whose nuzlocke would impress Jan, it would have been Freezai.

Really happy that this run is being showcased on this channel. I love all of Freezai's content, but it feels like his videos on ingame content aren't as popular as his competitive pokemon content.

Jan reacted to this Nuzlocke the way a food critic reacts to finding quality food.

I love how Nuzlocke was invented in order to: * Increase difficulty in pokemon games (by limiting player options). * Increase immersion (the forced-naming pokemons creates an emotional attachment, and also the fact you can only catch 1 per route). And yet, this 2 dudes just made Nuzlocke games the coldest calculator of which mons I want to sacrifice later on, and how much damage I need to have taken in this mon in order to force the AI into using a move that is convenient for me. Literally flipping the 2nd objective backwards: "pokemons are just tools through which I fulfill my goals to be the very best!"

yeah and its awesome
@RabblesTheBinx2 жыл бұрын
It's an unfortunate side-effect of most "enhanced rules" Nuzlockes. They require more strategy and sometimes sacrifices are necessary, so you tend to be more likely to treat them as simply tools to complete the game.

Bro imagine being the Elite Four and seeing this dude walk in with unevolved, poisoned, sometimes half or near dead pokemon, and sacking them like they're Storm Troopers. And that guy becomes the new champion; with one pokemon still alive. Then goes and defeats the true final fight, with again, one mon alive. What a chad.

Freezai: "Hey guys, so today we're going to make this Pokémon game our bitch by exploiting bad programming"
