I Googled Roto Grip and Storm's coverstock/core charts. Roto Grip's VTC Pearl cover is about the same as Storm's R2S. However, the Hustle core is tough weaker than the Centripetal Control Core. IQ Tour Ruby: 2.49 RG and 0.029 differential Hustle Wine: 2.53 RG and 0.030 differential So the IQ is a little earlier than the Wine. I have a Wine and it might be a little bit of overlap for me, but I may still get the Ruby.

Great review. I like the fact that you compare the difference between how much the lane is hooking at that exact moment. Helps decipher the look for us looking in......also, Darren says he is slow compared to the field on tour. What if someone throws about 15-16 mph when hooking? I mean lay down 20ish and go to 8 for BP....? Is that slow?

Slow compared to what? The overwhelming majority of us mere mortals who aren't on the tour are not throwing the ball 20 mph... plus, you have to take the numbers those sensors spit out with a grain of salt. Unless you're rolling in a brand new center that opened yesterday, most of those systems are decades old at this point, and likely haven't been calibrated in years. What matters is that your speed is consistent from shot to shot... don't fixate on the number as "too fast" or "too slow".

So if I have money for only one ball and I need a pearl for my arsenal, would you recommend a IQ Ruby or an Infinite Physix. I know there are a lot of variables, but right now I have an IQ Tour as a baseline, an Axiom solid and a purple hammer. I was looking to add an asym pearl so I was thinking infinite, but this video makes the Ruby look so good. I can’t throw it like Darren throws it obviously, so will that make it too similar to either my IQ or Axiom?

I am considering purchasing the IQ Tour Ruby based on recommendations, as I do not own any pearl balls/coverstocks and have a high rev rate. Currently, my arsenal consists of the Magic Gem, Hammer Hazmat, Duo, black widow 3.0, Global Origin (hybrid but polished), RG X-Cell, a plastic ball, and a Radical ball that I unfortunately broke. My go-to balls are my dad's Hammer Effect and the Magic Gem, followed by the Global Origin. However, I am contemplating replacing the Magic Gem with the Global Origin and adding the IQ Tour as a pearl option.

When I've seen you on TV matches it shows you ball speed up over 17mph are you slowing it down that much or is whay they show on the TV screen that off? 🤔

The tv shows measure off hand speed. Your local bowling center reads the speed as it hits the pins. Balls can slow down as much as around 2.5 mph as it travels down the lane.

Man I always crack up at league when people get new balls. The crazy thing I bowl in a sport shot money league with really good bowlers. We have guys who count their 300s cause they have a goal before retiring. We have guys who never got to go pro but if they dedicated the time would have given it a shot. We know some of them have 100s of 300s and dont care but its still cool to know how many you truly have. I know im at 8. Goal was to hit 25 by the age of 40 but injury and other things have ruined that. Im just happy to have a personal best 855 series under my belt!

Well, let's think about it. If Storm only came out with 4 balls a year, would they make nearly as much money with the bowling community? Of course not, because the regular bowler who averages 160 a game is going to figure out that the ball doesn't do anything to their average quicker because there is nothing "new and shiny" to help their average. Bowling ball companies would lose business so quick, then we would be stuck with the same balls forever. Let the ball makers dupe us like they have been for decades...it is the American way! 😀😂

No, you can't make all balls do the same thing by changing the layout. 12-18 months of R&D go into the design, pairing, and testing of cores and covers before a ball appears on the shelf of your local pro shop... and no layout can magically undo all of that engineering. If it could, there'd be one ball on the market and everything else would be accomplished on the drill press. It's like saying that a putter can do the same job as a 3 wood if you swing it the same way... but it can't. Different tools for different jobs. Is the ball market over-saturated? Yes, to an extent. There's lots of overlap, and 99.97% of us don't need 3 different balls that are so similar that it's difficult to tell them apart... unless you bowl on a wide variety of patterns and conditions, which will make each ball's differences more readily apparent. But that being said, implying that layouts alone can be used to produce any ball motion you want no matter what ball you're throwing, is grossly overstating what what layouts can accomplish. Layouts fine-tune ball motion, steering a ball's performance maybe 10% one way or the other... but you can't make a big solid tank like the Gem behave like a Burner Pearl no matter where you put the holes...
