The name, logo, and jerseys are only placeholders until a permanent name is voted on, which will be used starting in 25-26. They are trying to do the same thing with the Jazz, they just announced a rebrand that isn’t going to be fully in effect until 25-26. I hope they end up going as the Utah Yeti, but if they end up sticking with Utah HC as the permanent, then I would imagine that these temporary elements will also become permanent.

Ben Hatskin (I know you don't know him not many do) was a personal friend of the NY Jets owner back in the 70's when the WHA was founded, and he really liked his football clubs name. So when Winnipeg was awarded a franchise in the WHA, and Ben Hatskin sought permission to use the 'Jets' name for his new Wpg franchise. Back then, the merchandise wasn't really a 'thing' so the (obviously) the Jets owner said sure (again, they were personal friends). New teams today trademark their nicknames due to the fact they make money directly from their merchandise sales. I'm sure Utah would have to fork over a % of their merch sales to the NBA's Raptors to use that name, and you know as well as I that would never happen. I too love the name "Yeti" and the delay is they have to finalize a lot of things to bring it to market, and they don't have near enough time to do that as merchandise is being made NOW for next season (that's why the Ducks showed their new uni's but the manufacturer have had those plans for months)

Whether Zadorov comes back or not, there may be better bang for buck options in the UFA market. If they can get Pesce for less than Zadorov on a shorter term deal, that may work as well. Pesce isn't as flashy or physical, but he may not have to be. You can put Pesce with Soucy and that's a great shutdown 2nd pair. They need to do a better job of protecting Demko.

Utah .. unlike the Coyotes, will have absolutely no problem getting butts in the seats. They have a demand for season tickets far beyond the capacity of the arena. Trading their 10th overall pick for a player now will have absolutely zero impact on the attendance. They will have a long waiting list for season tickets no matter what they do. Makes me wonder why the NHL wasted so many years in Arizona. As far as the pick goes .. I'd use it to build a solid roster for the future. There are many talented free agents available and the team is well below the cap floor. The owner has tons of money and is looking to build a team worthy of the NHL. Agreed - we drafted 8th a few years back and we took (and a lot of Spokian eyebrows were raised when we did) and he hadn't done a thing. In fact, a lot of folks here were wanting him traded at the deadline for a better piece (as he wasn't even on the roster) hoping to get that one player we needed to get our hands on the Cup. Not every player can waltz in the NHL like a Mortiz Seider and be good. Well, our GM was smart, didn't trade him, and wouldn't you know it - we got the guy we needed anyway, at least to get us there - Yep Philip Broberg. Could you imagine if we had dumped him at the trade deadline? He's been outstanding and may still turn out to be the best pick of that 2019 draft after Seider and Hughes. I just hope they (Utah) don't trade that pick for Zegras. Then they'd be better off keeping it. Oh, point is they want to win now - not 5 years from now - holding on to the pick the fans may not have the patience to wait.
