The funny thing about that line, is that it depends on which circles you follow/exist in. Most of my Twitter feed was ecstatic and hyperventilating with excitement about the things covered in the stream. Was full of the creative community talking about all the new possibilities for their worlds and avatars, as well as some dwelling on the realisation that there was an increasingly real potential ahead that it could totally change their lives, in the form of quitting their day job and creating for VR-Chat full time.
@SolarpunkJackal3 жыл бұрын
The best and most profitable VR Chat could be would be separating adult and child areas, allowing adult content creation, and being able to create and spawn NPC characters and monsters with their own voice dialogues in game designated areas, and combine diggable/destructible and buildable regions to the above and you'd have the perfect VR experience. Oh, and add haptic feedback compatibility so people can hug each other and feel it if they buy the VRChat haptic cat suits, combined with that ability to interact with people's bodies, and you'd be gold! Whoever makes this first will be a multi-billionaire. which covers everything I think?

@@Ruby_Mochii Those sorts of cases will solve themselves. If people try to go to worlds that lock their content and can't be with their friends, then firstly, they'll go elsewhere and the map will just die out for being too restrictive. Secondly, the friend who was paying and could get in, will have far less interest in continuing to support that, and will likely stop. After all, what's the point of paying for something in a social game if paying for it prevents you being social? Any world author who gets greedy will simply lose their audience and get pushed aside by the more sensible authors.

@@UnknownSquid totally agree. Will just open up the ability for people to support their favorite creators. @mango2 Competition between two athletes that don't need to exercise and both benefit from the effort is an example of healthy competition. Competition between two business owners, where whoever doesn't come out on top will go under, is a threat to that company's health. That's not friendly competition; that's Darwinian competition for survival. When something is destroyed rather than improved, that's not healthy. Sometimes the winner of a competition is actually worse, but they got lucky. So while competition can be healthy, more often it's better to help or cooperate with peers to improve outcomes.

@@sirdeadlock True. I am slightly concerned that CVR simply won't be able to keep up, and be forced under. They started out as basically a VRC clone that skipped the basics in-order to flaunt a few niche features that players wanted from VR-Chat, but by the end of this year they stand to not only loose that advantage but be substantially over shadowed. Neos still has a fairly strong identity as the true DIY tinkerers/programmers playground in VR, but CVR is probably going to have to re-invent/re-market itself. 90% of the reason anyone gave it time of day, was purely for touching anime-tiddies, and the baseless myths of better performance. @Messi-rw9ng3 жыл бұрын
Most of the known and big name avatar creators are pushing against the use of outside assets. No TDA, Sims, Second Life, or any of that. It's gotten to the point of shaming people who use those assets which sounds bad but I think it's the right way of going about it. If people perceive it as something that will bring them negative attention and feedback, they'll stop doing it.
@UnknownSquid3 жыл бұрын
@@Messi-rw9ng Impossible to actually enforce or accomplish, and even if it were, shame is an ugly tool. For the better known creators, using outside assets will be more visible and could be challenged, but for the vast majority of users and smaller creators, it'll likely remain a wild-west.
@Messi-rw9ng3 жыл бұрын
@@UnknownSquid Well, it's at least started the incentive for scratch assets made entirely for VRChat. Majority of avatar servers feature an assets or free downloads section. If high quality "vrchat" assets become greater in circulation, it'll lessen the need to look towards outside sources. But yeah I agree, it will remain impossible to eliminate ripped content. Yet if someone chooses to use a from-scratch jacket over a Sims one, I'd count that as "reducing" the problem no matter how small the effect. The only downside to this is that _paid_ scratch assets will (and already are) likely be subject to the same pirating and ripping.
@UnknownSquid3 жыл бұрын
@@Messi-rw9ng This subject (of from scratch assets made specifically for VR-Chat) is actually something I raised a good two years ago, during discussions about relations with the MMD community. I pointed out/predicted, that in time the relationship of who takes assets from who, will likely flip. Now and especially in the past, VR-Chat users rely on assets made by existing artists who learnt their skills for other mediums. But I perceive the appeal and draw of social VR as having a vastly higher ceiling in terms of user count, vs the medium and use cases of MMD. On top of that, the relative attraction for users to try out creating their own content and learning the skills required. It's practically part of the culture that any user invested enough in VRC will eventually either start making a personal avatar, or seek to commission one from someone else. So whilst for now, it's VR-Chat users taking MMD assets etc from other longer established creative communities, in future we may well start seeing the reverse situation in many areas. Obviously things like video games, or specific nice models made for other purposes, will always get ripped regardless. But we'll also see content flowing back the other way, as popular scratch made VR-Chat content is instead converted into MMD format etc, to be used for other purposes.

As a creator myself who usually models in blender and uses vroid studio as well as assets to speed up workflow, I don't think the pay wall idea for creators with potential asset flipping is as much as a big deal as it sounds as long as the devs put something in place like a submission sheet to fill out that forces the creator to show their work. Then there could be no way to flip as long as they show something has at least been altered to the point where its theirs. The point is to create something, not to steal hard work, so as long as the devs can for us all to show that we indeed created something, this is in no way an issue.

a good idea for the creator thing is to make it so you have to get a certain badge from a vrchat moderator (or someone in charge) before you can sell content or be able to get paid for different services. you would have to reach out to someone who can give a certain badge or permission to be able to sell content and then you can make money in vrchat. this badge can also be taken away if you violate various terms like stealing, overpriced items, lying about prices, etc etc. i’d say that you should get permission or a badge to be able to sell things. this would prevent people from copying avatars/worlds or recording audio from a musician and playing it on their mic for money. lemme know if this seems like a good idea 🥰

I don't wanna be one of those people, but other social platforms like Neos have had most or all of these features for a little while. In-game economy, avatar dynamics, face tracking, etc. Not to mention a way nicer dev team who do weekly updates and are really open. If people have issues with VRchat and want something potentially better, I'd seriously beg them to look into alternate social VR platforms. Just see what's out there, what features other platforms have, and if you wanna move there (either part-time or full-time). I'm currently in the process of moving my KZbin video production from VRchat to Neos, simply because I have way more freedom there. I can build my own set from within the game (Unity is like Latin to me) using either free assets available in Neos or importing my own, I can spawn props if needed in any world, I can use stuff like face and eye trackers (Neos supports basically everything), etc. It's not perfect though, the tools and UI aren't very newcomer friendly, there's a serious lack of user generated content or users in general, and there's no Quest version to make it easy to get into the game (to be fair you could argue this is a good thing, keeps all the annoying Rec Room kids out). But I can honestly say I prefer Neos's tools and community to VRchat's, although I still love VRchat's worlds and the countless friends I've made there. It makes me wish VRchat was as open as Neos, or at the very least had a dev team that was more open and friendly. Recently they tried a mass ban on players who used mods, without even considering that most people who used mods were using ones that only added quality of life improvements (such as being able to browse worlds while laying down). Naturally it backfired hard on them and they undid the ban, but it really goes to show how out of touch they are with their users.

Honestly, I feel like the locking things behind groups is gonna suck and its just gonna have a ton of worlds being like "Join our group to get the full experience" or in story maps they might be like "To get the actual ending join our group and go into this room instead" and if that happens its not gonna have the feeling of being free to join any group you want like they want it to be and instead its gonna feel more like its mandatory to join tons of groups if you want to have fun, which might also ruin immersion. I hope they do something like making world hosts be able to unlock the areas for everyone, so if a person needs it for events they can keep it locked to certain people (maybe also make it possible to whitelist/blacklist people from a server menu) but also allow for small groups to have fun exploring/chilling in worlds without feeling like they are being forced to sign up to some group you don't care about.

Wait, but with the avatar physics, are they still gonna be pc only? Or would they include quest support?

New UI - very col, love the new look and layout. Hope those wings can be used for some kind of avatar organisation tho (long shot I know, I jsut have far too many uploaded avatars to cycle through whenever I'm looknig for my favorites). As for the creation stuff: the stuff I do for other people is usually either model rips (fom Doom Eternal, etc.), or mid-level base edits (retextures, kit-bashes, and some simple 3D modelling for those small pieces I can't find anywhere) and as such I tend to do them for free. Sooo... I don't really have an opinion on the in-game payment stuff. I probably won't use it, but I can see why others would quite like it. Just so long as the avatar ripping problem is fixed up a little... On the flip-side though - Avatar Dynamics. Holy CRAP that looks awesome! Dynamic-Bone replacement aside, I cannot WAIT to have a proper way of doing avatar-avatar interaction, collision checks, and all that stuff. Just... WOW.

As an avatar creator, I'm happy to hear about people being able to buy avatars within the game. Also another one of my biggest hopes for VRChat is that it will lay out the ground work for VRMMORPG's. I've tried playing Orbus but I hate that all the characters look like gender neutral Nintendo Mii characters. Not exactly the SAO / .hack//sign experience I was looking for. But while VRCHat may not be an MMORPG, it feels like a real life version of Ready Player One which itself is very awesome.

so me and a group of friends did a little research keep in mind all of this is public information but the Location of the VRC servers is 1062 Folsom street Witch if you look it up with google maps it is behind a Pizza shop IN Sanfrancisco so then we called the pizza shop to see if we could get some more information on them and thus we learned that the only building that isn't a business around the pizza shop has been abandoned since the beginning of the pandemic so idk seems kind of messed up and that would explain a lot of server issues.

for the creator economy part of the video, I would honestly like to see it done where creators need to be allowed, to be able to set their creations for prices like avatars. like they would need to be verified to be able to do so; create a character, set a price then send it to be verified by a dev that would overlook it and be able to say okay great or no you can't or too high of a price to it.

I'm new to VRchat. I'm currently doing research into making worlds and avatars. So this update really excites me for the potential.

What I wish for the most is ease of use in creating avatars. I have been attempting to create one but I quickly get overwhelmed so I've just been grabbing free ones from the avatar worlds even though it would be awesome to have my own. Ended up having to get a professional to make one for me.

I think what I’m most looking forward to is something which wasn’t actually mentioned in this video. It has apparently been stated by the VRChat team that they are going to try and communicate with some of the top mod creators in VRChat to try and work out why people use mods. It’s no secret that mods are used, but it’s obvious that they provide something positive if so many people use them. Modding in VRChat has been a controversial topic for a long time, however, I believe non-malicious mods can be highly effective at improving the game, providing features like better menu placement, customisable ui and improved fullbody tracking, all through a few clicks. I think these kinds of features would improve VRChat a lot and the team could get a lot of great ideas through the existing mods. Knowing that features which you are not technically allowed to use right now, but improve gameplay a lot, may become a part of the main game is so exciting to me and I can’t wait to see what happens in that aspect of the game. I would also like to add that I am not justifying malicious mods such as ripper clients, increased speed etc, but mods that make small changes to make the game much more enjoyable without affecting other people (especially not in a negative way), are often misjudged. I would like people to see the good in the modding community of VRChat and why many choose to do something which is technically against the ToS. :)

This is my take on the new updates. I hope the new version of unity improves the performance since I have found that my I9 2080S build and I5 1060 build, have very little difference performance-wise when in public lobbies. The udon update sounds amazing, being able to interact with characters, and I'm sure the new menu will grow on me over time. One thing I worry about however is the paywall features, as I feel like it will put more scrutiny on accounts with modding clients. I personally could not go back to unmodded VRC since mods just help iron out so many bugs and pet peeves with the game and makes the whole game a lot more enjoyable.

looking forward to the unity upgrade as i recently thought about how it could be more beneficial. and adding the avatar dynamics is going to discourage the usage of mods, which is good since its more native and optimized.

Im really glad that theyre finally moving onto a new unity version but seriously? 2019? There's an LTS for 2020 available and they didn't choose it because of too much work. I really feel like theyre letting their game go while trying their hardest to milk it for money.

The paywalling stuff reminds me of what made whirled fail. (Whirled was basically a 2D vrchat made in the mid 2000s, it used to have millions of players, hundreds of thousands which would be online at a time, but now the recreated version of whirled has a max of 16 people online at once.)

6:00 I keep getting lucky with finding people that are nice. Like when I first hopped into VRChat on my quest, I went to the main world and met a very nice person (who I still play with today). The same thing happened with Omegle (still have the guy friended)

I'm afraid of world paywalls I think it could limit my hangouts What I find the funniest part of VR Chat is exploring worlds and playing some mini games with my friends so I just hope world paywalls dont become widespread
@milfhunter583 жыл бұрын
Oh it will, and you will see the end of this game. Adding world paywalls was the last bullet in the chamber for the game. But guess what? People will still pay, and they will, and it will only entice others to do the same.

I'm hyped for almost all of the information you mentioned in the video but I think the IRL money thing will split up the community. For me as total F2P I'm concerned that I will have after those updates some disadvantages so I will have to wait for what the future brings and how all of this IRL money part will evolve
