Gotta say I really appreciate this series. This year being the first where I don't have an advent-calendar, with me only eating stuff I make myself(for health reasons) as well as having gotten oversaturated with both mineral and lego-calendars. I like your videos about the countries! I'll watch the rest of the series soon! How I love these maps from the various ambassies with the colours of where shouldn't go. I used to look the middle eastern ones a lot, bc it's interesting to see what parts of the country are *actually* accessible for a normal tourist like you and I could be. Yes a pretty sad situation. They are poor, so they have many children to lend the family a hand and because they are conservative, but this means that thay will have to share all wealth among many. It's an endless vicious cycle :(

Sure, of course, and you think in the past they weren't poor and hadn't many children to "lend the family a hand" ? How come the population explosion only started over the last ~70 years? The answer is simple: reduction of infant mortality through modern, western medicine and knowledge, i.e. boring wells for clean drinking water.

It’s more the medicine. Pre industrial countries have lots of kids to help on the farm and as backups in case a few die. Death rates before antibiotics were 50% of kids before 5 (though if they made it to that age the danger was gone and they’d probably live to their 70s) These countries get modern medicine plus the first hints of industrial wealth and pump out kids acting on these ancient outdated cultural reflexes. Over decades the more the country industrializes the less people want kids since they realize there’s no need plus it’s expensive
