The Armenian population in the ottoman emprie did not just ”think” to be independent. They actively worked for their independence through means of killing and terrorizing locals in neighbouring turkish villages. You said it as if they tried to become independent via a peaceful process, that’s just simply not the case, rather just missinformation and or bias/propaganda, look up the Dashnaks. It’s impossible for de-escalation of such a situation to occur, when one party starts using lethal force, retalitation is in most cases unavoidable.

@@liveforever9888 Well if i would only get my sources from western media than i would have the same opinion as you. The Russians used a way to destroy the ottoman empire from the inside and armed the dashanks and promised them support and land. These dashnaks burned villages and massacred a lot of villages. The weak ottoman empire couldn't fight on two sides, that why the armenians needed to be reported. Furthermore, even the first armenian president Howhannes Katschasnuni admitted that the ottomans had every right to defend their homecountry. You can read his conference report, which btw has been kept under lock and key in armenia. Printouts, sales and publications are banned in armenia. I am going to list 12 key conclusions from Katschasnunu's report (again completely banned in armenia, i wonder why?): 1. "It was a mistake to form volunteer forces," he said. 2. "One was unconditionally tied to Russia." 3."One did not consider the pro-Turkish power structure." 4. "The resettlement order was logical." 5. "Turkey followed the defense instinct." 6. "The English occupation after 1918 gave new impetus to the hopes of the Dashnaks." 7. "One has established a dictatorship of the Dashnaks in Armenia." 8. "One has fallen for an imperialist project (such as the demand 'one Armenia from one sea to another') and has been incited in this sense." 9. "One massacred the Muslim population." 10. "The Armenian terrorist attacks were aimed at winning over Western public opinion." 11. "One should not have looked for culprits outside the Dashnak leadership." 12. "There was nothing left for the Dashnakzutyun to do; they should rather have committed suicide." It's sad that you think, that the senile old man aka president of the US would admit these things because he believes in them. The armenian lobby in the US wouldn't be so happy about it.

I like the video as a turk, but it failed on being objective in my opinion; The Armenian Genocide happened because a lot of Armenians in the area were murdering innocent women and children in an attempt to gain independence. In an attempt to stop this, Enver Pasha ordered the armenians to forcefully migrate to Syria, where a lot of people sadly died. It is a sad part of our history, but the Turkish Government doesn't deny this fact, they instead don't use the word ''genocide'' The PKK, is a terrorist organization recognized by both Europe and the USA. They have killed hundreds of people and bombed turkish villages. There is absolutely no way to sugar-coat this, it is simply wrong and barbaric. When it comes to Cyprus, the turkish people were already being treated awfully. That combined with the EOKA(Terrorist organization) planning an attack against the turkish cypriots(Look at ''bloody christmas'') only made the situation more tense. So, Turkey warned Greece and they eventually sat down with England and eventually signed an agreement. Greece broke the agreement many times and the terrorist organizations inside cyprus began to become more wilder. Which eventually led to the Invasion. I think an invasion to secure the safety of our people were justifiable. But trying to establish a country and hold many Cypriots hostage for many years was a mistake. Either annex it, or sit down for an agreement. I think the frustration of Turkish Cypriots is understandable.

so here is the discussion you were looking for in the video, about "Armenian genocide". I am from Turkey, and I honestly think we should keep an open mind about this issue but what is taught to us in schools is that during the war, while turks were trying to fight with someone else, Armenian people started rebellions and it was distracting (which was the aim anyway). so they sent the Armenians to another area. the problem is, the immigration was really in tough conditions and a lot of people died from hunger and cold etc. some probably got killed on the road to get valuable stuff as well. also everyone thinks that the numbers are puffed. Again, I am emphasizing that this is what they teach us, may not be true, but I really don't agree that turkish people tried to break their culture etc. They had their own problems to focus on, no one really cared about Armenians who have been living in Ottoman all along those years

i strongly disagree the treaty of sevres would have divided turkey into 6 areas and turkeys land mass would have become 80% smaller. Purely turkish cities like Konya or Bursa would have been given to italien and british, who did not belong to this place anyways. Armenians wanted to control an area from Trabzon to erzurum to Bitlis and Van. What do you think would have happened to the turks in those areas. France killed 15% of the algerian population in 1950 and 60 because they did not want to give the colony back. I am proud of what my ancestors have done, it was either kill or get killed and I dont believe you could have sit down with the russians, british, armenians, greeks, italians, french and could have made a "fair contract". The armenians betrayed the ottomans and experienced the consequences of backstabbing. Abdülhamit, Talaat Pasha, Enver Pasha and Atatürk all of them have done the right thing on that matter. The french in 1919 were relocating the christians from the middle east to cukurova and yüksekova with the intent of enmassing enough soldiers to start ethnic cleansing on turks. Crete, cyprus had turkish majorities so did many parts of the balkans. Turks even if they dont talk about it, because they dont like to see themselves as victims, have experienced many genocides themselves.

@@myname1700 I am not a historian myself, I don't even know the role of Talat Pasha in this, but I know you cannot make Ataturk involve in this situation. It was Enver Pasha who gave the order to Armenians to relocate, and we know he did other bad things to Turkish people itself (like Sarıkamış). Thus, he was a bad person anyway. I cannot believe you saying you're proud of this. All nations have fought some wars, all of them killed others, we cannot really do something about it anymore since it's in the past. But telling that you're proud is definitely not normal. It's just scary.

@@jiipai7952 well atatürk said quite clearly himself that this was no genocide it was a relocation programm, because armenians were attacking the supply lines. If you are at war and one group actively is trying to make you loose for their own political goals and there is only one option "kill or get killed" than you must protect your own family first and foremost. Watch this video again and look if he (a british guy) even once mentions how armenians have killed 300 thousand turkish and kurdish muslim civilliance with russian weapons like Ilber Ortayli is claiming. Many turkish soldiers were put to trial in turkey for there misshandling of the relocation programm, how many armenians were put to trial by Armenia for the killings of 100 of thousands turks in ottoman empire?, exactly "zero"! If turks would have not relocated the armenians, I cant even imagine the horrors our ancestors would have experienced by 6 different foreign armies occupying turkey. The Greeks genocided the turks in crete the first moment they had an opportunity to, Yerevan the capital of armenia was build by an azeri turk called ismail shah for turks to live in. There are armenians which have written reports about turkish boys, which they have skinned alive to see how long it would take for them the die. I definitely am not denying Turkish people have experienced a lot of cruelty. I'm a Turkish person myself afterall. That's why I said every nation fought wars and killed people. Turkish people killed some other nations, others killed Turkish people. Showing only one side of this is obviously wrong and racist but that's just a reality that I got used to it. Translated from Wikipedia The Armenian Question or the Armenian Question is an Armenian issue, which is discussed with a political approach between the Turkish states and Western countries, starting from the Ottoman period and extending to the Turkish period.[1] The content of the Armenian Genocide, which was presented as the rights of Armenian citizens during the Ottoman period, and then took place after the First World War, is politically and legally based on the *allegation* that the Armenians in the Ottoman Empire were killed intentionally and under orders by the state administration, and for this reason, the events were of a genocidal nature. The "counter-claim" or "explanation" made by Turkey in relation to this new allegation, which has become more complicated, caused these deaths not to be a systematic state policy, but to war conditions, diseases, climate, attacks by gangs and tribes in the region, and the lack of facilities to facilitate the forced migration of Armenians. It is the subject that takes its present form with the showing of factors such as the cause.

Toycat: Iran and Armenia do not share a border Also Toycat at 15:23: *shows the Armenian-Iranian border to the right of the western Azerbaijan label on the map* The part of Azerbaijan that borders Turkey is Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, which doesn't have any disputes with Armenia. You're confusing it with Nagorno-Karabakh. While it doesn't have any disputes, its history is still complicated as it was historically Armenian land as the province of Vaspurakan within the Armenian Kingdom. Nakhchivan (which is actually an Armenian name) was mixed Azerbaijani-Armenian until as late as a century ago when it became more homogenously Azerbaijani. When the Bolsheviks occupied the area in 1920, the Russians and Azerbaijan SSRs said that Nakhchivan, Nagorno-Karabakh, and Zangezur would all be integral parts of the Armenian SSR. However as we know, that's not what happened. The next year, Lenin betrayed the Armenians by giving Nakhchivan to Azerbaijan as an autonomous republic within it (on top of making Nagorno-Karabakh an autonomous oblast). Former President of Azerbaijan, Heydar Aliyev (father of Ilham Aliyev), is actually from there. Interesting fact about Nakhchivan, their Supreme Assembly recognized Northern Cyprus as a state in the 90s and called upon Azerbaijan to do so. However despite being friends with Turkey, Azerbaijan hasn't as they fear doing so would make the Republic of Cyprus recognize Nagorno-Karabakh

Calling 1915 incidents "forceful integration of other peoples into the empire" must be the weirdest thing I have ever heard. Eastern Armenians wanted independence and they formed militia groups that would pillage and murder Turkish and Kurdish villages, Ottomans did what they do best and deported the trouble makers to somewhere else. This is why no armenian from west of anatolia were deported because they didnt rise up, so calling this "a forceful integration" just doesnt make sense. Eastern Armenians were poor just like any other ethnic group, thats why they happily rose up and murdered other peoples and not the rich ones living in Istanbul.

With Armenia the situation is up to a diplomatic and militar (NATO vs Russia in Armenia) thing, but besides buffer zones, you can get very close from both points (E.G. Ani or Khor Virap) to those buffer zones. Syria, well, Turkey is occupying a strip of land and the south east of Turkey is militarized (Checkpoints everywhere), but once I was there it was sort of ok. If you know what happened in Crete you would know why Turkey has invaded Cyprus. Crete was under Ottoman rule and island was about 55 percent greek and 45 percent Turkish. So we cant really say it is fully greek or Turkish however, Greeks started to take arms and killed local Turkish population. At that time Ottoman lacked proper ships to intervene in and The West knew that so a coalition of Western powers called this "a crisis" and sent their navy to blockade Crete from Greece and Ottomans. Meanwhile genocide to Turkish in Crete continued and this conflict started a War: Greece vs Ottoman Empire Greece was all alone and Ottomans won the war. Ottomans could have push as far as Athens but The Western powers threatened Ottomans to end the war. In the peace treaty, little did ottoman gain in the balkans. But Crete became an independent State. Later, this "independent state" was about 70 percent greek. So all governors were greek and slaughter continued. Then Crete joined Greece. After independence from British Empire, Cyprus was about 60-40 greek-turk so Turks had to be in the government. They rightfully were in but Turkish villagers were started to get slaughtered. This could have lead to no Turks in goverment. Things started just like Crete. But now Turkey had a power to intervene. Since without Turks in Cyprus it would not protect its status of " Cant join the neither countries " as proposed in independence. If all island was greek there would be no need to joining to Greece ,as an example: belarus and russia, Cyprus would be a Greek puppet. Turkey intervened and saved her people. No matter how you see it, it was a rightful move, we already experienced the Worst in Crete.

Before 1453 nothing has existed for Turkey and this is a big problem. Of course after many years we took back our land, culture and what ever belonged before to Greece. Greece exist about 3000 years. @@greekstyle2954 well i dont care what you had before. I accept the old world was cruel. And bad things happened but claiming lands about 600 years old dead Empire and kill people to start crisis is not a thing both sides would agree. If greeks knew their place in Cyprus and just didnt start to kill Turks in island everything would be fine. A nice Buffer island limiting Turkish and greek influence over mediterranean and keeping peace but guess what? Nope. Same in Crete it was meant to be an independent state as the West say but that independent state does the opposite and Later joined Greece by exploiting weak Ottoman navy. Countries and "Sides" have their own goals in certain regions. You either agree on terms for peace or you fight for it. You never tried to agree on peace. I understand your effort in the balkans, all way to the sellaniko was yours. But either you accept it or not Crete and Cyprus had another idendity from then. If you somehow conquer Turkey and somehow become about the same population in the region I would say yes this is not it was meant to be. I cant just say Athens was Ottoman or Damascus was Ottoman to claim land. Catalans cant claim sicily from Aragon, it was past. Now I claim that Turks learned their lesson from crete because Turks got slaughtered and you defend it by saying also greeks were in 1100s so what? Does it change anything? No. You cant make the right decisions by revenges. If you killed murderers instead of jailing, it wouldnt be justice. And only thing Im here to legitimize is Turkish intervention in Cyprus and nothing more. But you bring up past's past to legitimize your slaughter. Well if you could intervene you could. If we could intervene we could. Thats nothing but taking a lesson from it and doing the best for your nation. I hope peace keeps its place. And greece knows her place.

Actually, that bird thing is more complex than your explanation. Turkey the bird isn't native to Turkey, but to Americas, and it's not commonly domesticated in Turkey. However, there is a species of cock that is native to Turkey, called "Turkey cock" at the time. When Europeans saw turkey the bird, however, they thought it was the same species as Turkey cock (because it looks similar) so they named it Turkey cock. They stopped using "cock" after a while, and it became just turkey.

1- The reason Turkish-Armenian border is closed is the fact Armenia occupied illegaly the UN recognized lands of Azarbaijan. It has nothing to do with so called fake "Armenian Genocide"... Armenia really wants to open the borders but the same time they don't wanna give up the lands they have captured from Azarbaijan. 2- Georgian and Turkish relations are pretty goood. A lot of the Georgian military equipment are donated from Turkey and Turks can enter Georgia without passports. 3- There is a massive wall between Syria and Turkey and literally drones fly 24/7 so it is not easy to pass the border. 4- PKK is not a communist organization they just call themself that cause in 70s that was the trend with terrorists. 5- Iran and Turkey relations are pretty bad. Some tourists visit Turkey from Iran doesn't make their relations good at all. Iran threatens Azarbaijan and Turkey all the time and make propaganda against them because around %40 of Iran consist of Turkish/Azeri people and Iran is afraid that they would uprise to join Azerbaijan or Turkey. 6- Turkey does have a border with Azarbaijan. That area is called Nakhcivan and it is a part of Azarbaijan legally. I don't understand why are you not sure if they have a border or not lol.

A couple major corrections: - 12:43 Iraq is *against* the Turkish operations in N-Iraq a.k.a _Iraqi Kurdistan_ . The ironic part is, the current leading party in Kurdistan, the Kurdistan Democratic Party, and the Kurdish Peshmerga is in a joint Turkish-Kurdish operation against the Kurdish PKK...(you read that right). Both sides even fought together during the Iraqi-Kurdish civil war in 97’ against the PUK and PKK. - 6:20 Both the Turkish and Armenian government has expressed that the borders *WILL* be open (soon). Starting just recently with the allowance of third-country-nationals. In the near future also for Turks and Armenians. This came after a set of Normalisation Processes. - 1:09 Turkey’s (the bird) isn’t native to Turkiye (I’m gonna spell it this way to avoid confusion). They are native to the Americas. Why is called Turkey? Because of the famous ‘Turkey cock bird’ found in Turkiye which looks similar to the turkey bird. So European colonialists called them ‘Turkey cocks’ which later became just ‘Turkey’. - 8:48 Erdogan himself is from Georgian descent. This quote (which often gets taken out of context by the west) is regarding the many different ethnic backgrounds the Turks have as a result of the Mucahirs (Muslim refugees from ex-Ottoman lands that fled to Anatolia to escape ethnic cleansing, genocide, massacres, forced deportations, assimilation,... there’s an entire Wiki for those interested. That’s what the quote refers to. People who fled their homelands and settled within the borders of Turkey. - 9:22 Turkey and Syria do not get along...it’s even worse than the Greece-Turkey relationship There are more mistakes but these are the major ones I wanted to put out. Also the entire ‘genocide’ thing. The deaths are not denied. The amount is still up to debate but the deaths are not denied. The Turkish government says that from the 1.2m Armenians AT LEAST 600k were killed. At least. Then why does Turkey not accept it as a genocide? Simple because of the one sided narrative. Turkey wants the other side of the story to be told. Muslim Turks and Kurds may have killed Christian Armenians and Greeks but they themselves witnessed ethnic cleansing as well. And ironically this is denied by the same countries that force Turkey to recognise the genocide. Each story has two sides.

did the Turkish Republic 'literally destroy' the Ottoman Empire? Maybe legally, in the sense of abolishing the caliphate or whatever. But the Empire was basically done after WW1. It was destroyed then. The Western imperialists were going to destroy it and carve it up. Hence the Turkish Republican movement's aim in the Independence War was to destroy the foreign presence (i.e. the Greeks, British, French) in Anatolia. They weren't fighting to destroy the Ottoman Empire as their main motivation...

>Armenian Genocide I want people who says "this happened" to tell that to my dead great grandma, so she can slap you across the face. She lost most of her family, friends when Armenian gangs attacked her village, she barely escaped with a group of old women. When Turkish forces came only then she returned to her village, they hid in a tiny cave for weeks with near to no food and water. When they returned to village every single Turkish and Kurdish people there were slaughtered by Armenians, corpses burnt, pregnant women butchered by their stomachs cut open (apparently it's "game" they played) and so on. A day later she finds her friend hiding in her family's burning house's chimney. Right next to all the charred corpses. So what happened wasn't a "genocide" it was "fighting back the fire with fire". I don't want to sound humane, but it was their people's own fault what happened. Though there were all kinds of shit going down in Eastern Anatolia at the time, each ethnicity living there had their own gangs, attacking villages of others, raiding, pillaging, and civilians mostly tried to help each other like Turks helping Kurds and Armenians and Arabs or Armenians helping Turks, Kurds and Arabs and so on. And forced migration was their own fault for sucking Russian dick, then making gangs attacking and raiding villages like a bunch of rabid dogs, I'd say they had it coming. It sounds cruel, but my family suffered from it, thankfully not on my father's side, because Armenians didn't have balls to attack a vilage that has "Kipchak" tribal people living in it, Kipchak people's wrath would have fucked them up (same people who stopped Mongolian conquest to the west in Russian steppes, and same mercenary people who destroyed crusaders in some crusades, then founded the state what was known at the time as "Mamelukes"). That's why I don't bullshit around when I say "t'was no genocide, just a race on who will murder who faster so they can get lands and self defence in some cases." It was chaos, a total shit show. Yet because Turks are Muslims and pretty much kicked major European ass back in their golden days as Ottoman Empire, it's easy to show them as targets. Turks are still waiting for those Armenian archives to open. LOL She was in her early teens when this happened (1910s), y'know 5th/6th grade age, she was a mere kid. around the region what's today known as city of "Kars" as an additional information.

"Maybe even Russia with its fifteen" sixteen if you include Finland! The Grand Duchy of Finland was within the Russian Empire from 1809 to 1917 when the Finns had enough of the Russification policies of the Tsars, formed a Diet where they remade their constitution and included universal suffrage which the Russians tried to dissolve, and took the opportunity to declare independence during the revolution. This war for independence became a civil war between the Finnish White Guard (backed by the German Empire) and the Red Guards (supplied by the Soviets). The White Guard won, with the Germans wanting to have a German-led Finnish monarchy but as a result of Germany's loss, Finland instead became a democratic republic.

I just want to say one thing. Did you do research? Also, you said that the land of Azerbaijan should belong to Armenia. Because Azerbaijan has no land connection with it, right? Then what is England doing in Cyprus, in Gibraltar? Do they have a land connection with it? You say that Turkey occupied Cyprus, but do you know that the Ottomans conquered it in 1573? And that the Greeks who were there tried to force the Turks out of Cyprus by applying force? Do you know the Khojaly Massacre that Armenians carried out against Azerbaijanis? And according to people in Armenia, 1.5 million Armenians were killed during the Armenian Genocide in those years, but according to the sources of that time, there were no 1.5 million people in Armenia. What about the Aegean Islands problem? You just said that the Italians gave it to Greece. And you know who gave those islands to Italy? Ottoman! The Ottomans gave these islands to Italy for a short time, but after the First World War, Italy took the islands and gave them to Greece. In addition, according to the Treaty of Lausanne, Greece should not arm the islands, but Greece does not do this. Likewise, according to the Treaty of Lausanne, it is forbidden for Greece to increase the territorial sea limit of the islands from 6 miles, but Greece even says that it will increase it to 12 miles. Turkey is in an unfair position in this regard. And most countries (USA, EU) support Armenia and Greece, although they are wrong on this issue. Please let's talk some facts. :)

Armenians joined forces with the bolsheviks in the midst of world war 1, in which the ottomans were engaged, and committed massacres of the ottoman population. The ottomans then deported the armenian population to syria, where many perished. Other smaller kurdish and other traditionalists also committed massacres against the armenian population. Today's armenians insist on the recognition of a genocide, while the Turks insist a massacre. Armenia rejects a historical reappraisal of all international archieve. It demands unconditional recognition of a genocide, which turkiye did not accept, they want a international research on this case. With regard to relations with georgia, it is somewhat more complicated. My ancestors are colchians. It is an ancient culture, with the greek mythology of the golden fleece. The colchians who stayed behind on the georgian side are now the mingrelians and were christianised. Kolchians who remained on the turkish side are today the lazs, who were later islamised. Batumi, Rize, Poti and Kutaissi was the core area of the colchians. The georgians and turks along the border are culturally merged but have different religions today. They still have the best relations with each other. The state relations can be described as stable.

Turk here. I just did a whole presentation to my class about the Armenian deportation today. It is simply silly to suggest that Türkiye decided to eradicate the entire Armenian entitiy out of nowhere, after 800 years of living together. Armenians (just like almost every minority in the Ottoman Empire) wanted to gain independence and their own free state. During WW1 (1914-1918) while the Ottoman Empire was fighting in numerous fronts like Palestine, Galicia, Caucasus, Gallipoli etc. against the allied powers, Armenians supported the Russians in their invasion of Anatolia. Spesifically in 1915, the Armenians of Van (a big city with significant Armenian population) rebelled agianst the empire and the city fell to the Russians with no resistance, because it was taken from the inside. This year was the year the Ottomans won the Gallipoli war against the British. The entire country was full of war and invasion from all sides and your own Armenian citizens cooperating with the enemy and giving away entire cities overnight to them wasn't helping. The Armenians also commited mass murders on the Muslims of the Eastern Anatolia mostly because they wanted to be the majority in the region. As a result 2.500.000 Muslims were killed in the region between 1892-1918. The mass graves are still being found out in the region. So the Ottoman empire decided to deport around 450.000 Armenians living in Eastern Anatolia (official numbers) to Syria and Iraq, especially to the city of Deyrizor along the Euphrates river. The Armenians in the western cities weren't subjected to this deportation, as they didn't pose a threat. Also women, children and trustworthy businessmen were also not included. The Ottoman Army was ordered to protect the Armenians on the way from internal threats. Around 46.000 Armenians died on the way due to famine, difficult situaitons and attacks from Turks who were angry at Armenians as well as some Ottoman officials. A total of 600.000 Armenians are believed to die in those years. Many of whom were actually killed by local people or officlals who misused their power out of hatred for what the Armenians did to Turks, which in no way justifies it of course. As a result, the Ottoman Empire charged more than 1.600 people for their crimes against the Armenians, out of around 500 were convicted and 67 were hanged, including an Ottoman governor. How many Armenians were charged for their crimes against the Muslims/Turks of Eastern Anatolia? Zero. In 1919 after the war, the Ottoman Empire invited the deported Armenians back to their homes, and 277.000 Armenians did come back. How is it a "genocide" if the Ottoman Empire ordered its army to protect the Armenians? How is it a genocide if the wrongdoers were charged and executed by the state? How is it a genocide if the people of the same ethnicity in the western provinces were not subjected to it?

Nice. I'm also Turkish and i feel sad when people say Armenian Genocide happened. Yeah, obviously a lot of Armenians died on these area and time. But you can't say genocide to this events just with "dead people". Genocide is a serious allegation. I can't accept these allegations without 100% proofs. And clearly there is no proof. I think if the Armenians had won the war against the Ottoman Empire, there will be no genocide allegations.

A fun fact is that many Turks ,which are living in the EU, cross the kapıkule border out of nostalgia, because they did that as they where younger to visit their homeland, because flying back then was way to expensive. The name of the bird turkey in different languages is quite interesting. While the bird itself originates from the Americas, it is named after Turkey in English, named after India in Turkish and many other languages, including Italian and French, but named after France in Greek! Portuguese and Croatian come close by naming it after Peru, while the Nordic languages and Dutch name it specifically after Calcutta in India. An even more entertaining example of the same phenomenon is the name of syphillis in different languages, I encourage you to look it up.
