Digging into them decades ago was fascinating then and the work they've done over the years is just continually utterly mind boggling at times. Actually I think the largest crane in the world is the SGC250 "Big carl" by the Belgian Sarens company. It is also 5000T but peaks at 250m compared to the 246m of the Mammoet one. Actually the mammoet is the third largest (but I agree that it is very close)

At 5:20 , they are swaying because each cable has only about 5 tonnes of stress on it (assuming 20 T for the cables themselves). 120 T / 24 cables. So basically nothing for a cable that size.

i've been there in 2009 when I was 12 years old, they had an event and I operated one of their smaller cranes. you could win a goodie bag if you managed to lower one inside an oil barrel. still use the can opener keychain it came with, just lost the logo quite a few years ago.

As a crane operator for simple tower cranes, this is huge. I max out at 50tons if the customer orders it. But 12ton is the basic.
