Any advice on crappie fishing a highland reservoir that has depths of 150+ and void of grass and not much wood either?

fish up in the creek arms... look for man made brush piles or docks that are in deeper water.

Different retrieval speed is not a hack. A hack would be dip your lure in Cheez Whiz and throw it out there.

I use a small piece of white yarn as an extra exciter. My lil' hack.

Crappie will adapt to their environment. Fishing in a lake or slow moving stream they'll sit and watch the bait then snatch it, but put them in a fast moving stream and they'll grab a fast moving bait the same as a small mouth bass would, because they have no other choice.

Dan, You say the smallest jig head possible. What weight would that be. Always looking to improve and would love to hear what you think.
@dominatefishing96416 жыл бұрын
its going to depend on the wind and depth, the more wind you have the heavier you have to go... a 1/16 oz works good in calm conditions in 4-8 feet of water.
@FishingLakeCountry6 жыл бұрын
You don't crappie fish to often or theres no brush, trees in the water where you fish. A weight of 1/16 in water less then 10 feet will hit the bottom fast reeling slow. I use 1/64, 1/32 or 1/48 oz, jigs in water less then 10 feet, unless using a float then 1/32. oz.. The body of the plastic can help float the jig, crappie will not feed of the bottom most of the time, I guide for bass and crappie...
@ChrisVZ776 жыл бұрын
I second the 1/32 ounce heads. Rigged in a small tube jig, It gives it a very nice gliding action.

its funny i always super slow finesse for largemouth here. and a few days ago i got a decent crappie. after my cast i let my dropper loop style weight on bottom plastic roboworm like 2 foot off floor. go all the way to bottom. then started walking down the banks and after like 15 steps crappie slam it. the bad thing i couldnt get any others near it. i have bad luck at this lake. i think im avg like 4-5 hours to get one fish. and rarely do i get others when i find one.. even with largemouth. though sometimes i do find multiples of largemouth but never with crappie yet. but ive only got like 3-4 crappie here lol but lots of largemouth. though spawn and renting a boat is a little better fishing.. and fall isnt so bad to rent a boat here either the stripers boil but ya fishing at this lake mainly from banks is a pain.

Hunt and Fish where's the best lake right now for crappie?
@charlesp8895 жыл бұрын
Biggest problem in the south. Old people will not actually teach people how to catch crappie out of greed. Most common response I get is" just use a jig" I found someone to teach me eventually but they were my age. It's kinda ironic the people 60+ years say the younger generations don't know how to do anything but have you done anything to change that. Stfu and let him share his knowledge bad grammar and all at least it's helpful to someone.
