My memory of the unreal and insane was made in winter 1980 when I accompanied a very accomplished fisherman that had found how to combine many different techniques and following a script of his own writing. The day started in the dark in his driveway and ended back there about noon. It was first ice, about 2”, and we each pulled out a sheet of plywood to stand on with holes that by eye and tape measure exceeded regulation, drilled and sawed out. Over 29’ of water, we pulled out 50 of the largest crappies I have ever seen, the biggest one was 22.5” long. He said you could only catch them in that spot under exactly those circumstances until noon the first day you had 2” of ice, then you were done until next year. Thank you for posting this content.

I am in Penna..Right where a cove meets large open lake,as if a spring or break water they loiter in my fav lake.. Can go and get beauty's night after night, but that one clear star night the breeders bite... They are so funny in that manner.(Here).. I suspect the breeders live on Bluegill minnows all warm season, then in winter must catch a meal to get by.. Just guessing because there are ones you can fish for and know they are there, but they only feed at certain times unlike the average ones. I take fillets in canned evaporated milk ,onion,potato,simmer..My favorite,.. Normally them breeders do not just bite but sporadically,in large bodies they MUST have better source to stay hidden. Releasing them was so awesome of you. I would as well but it would be hard, thats some of the best eating fish anywhere

Ok first of all Ty someone raised you right if your listening to music from my time "classic rock" and WTF I have never in my life seen a crappie even close to that size. If I had to guess I would say it is bigger than our state recorded here in Connecticut! You never fail to amaze me with the fish you catch. I'll say it again...keep on fishing, being physically disabled I am living vicariously through you. Thanks for another great adventure.

My buddy fishes in Alabama and catches crappie bigger than that in a public lake. So seeing these I definitely know they are possible on public water no doubt. Great video Ty!

You can find 5 pounders now & then at Clarkes Hill Lake in East Georgia. 2 to3 ponds are more common though! Nice fish man! Congrats!!

The content is never not insane. I’m convinced you’re the best to ever do it as far as catching multi species studs goes. If you’re ever up north would love to see you on some big pike and musky.

I just moved to Owen Sound, Ontario and I'm overwhelmed with fishing opportunity...there are some docks a couple blocks away I am going to give a shot tomorrow morning before the sun comes up...water looks to be about 15ft beneath the docks and 30+ ft about 20 feet off the docks. There are all kinds of trout, salmon, crappie and perch, bass, channel cat, carp, and more, all within a 5 minute walk.
