The Oregon state course is typically slow (coming from a former Oregon XC runner), and seeing as it had rained heavily in the days leading up to the meet, the course was a bit soupy in spots. I wish people stopped caring about times in cross country. Every course is different making times incomparable. Having said that, when I was in high school, we broke every state record in the books by a large margin, just like Newbury Park. However, we did it at the state level and they are doing it nationally which is incredible. Having a team that is as good as they are will probably never happen again. I just wish people would stop caring about times and focus on their dominance in cross country. Now track on the other hand, that's where times become the thing that matters most.
@heywoodjablome75352 жыл бұрын
Yeah I’ve felt the same for a while, idk how you can have a national record for an XC 5k in good conscious knowing every course is way different. Like no nj athlete takes their times from holmdel park seriously for just that reason
@michaeldeierhoi40962 жыл бұрын
You go ahead and follow the athlete's and team dominance while the rest of us will follow the dominance AND the times. It is especially interesting to compare times from one season to the next on the same course.

Time does not matter as much because shitty course = everyone slows down no matter if youre leo lex young or a slow runner like me So only compare relative placement and stuff even then it doesnt matter as much as beating YOURSELF and others which is what xc is for

Newbury Park is untouchable this year as a team. Barring injuries, they will go undefeated in every event, local or national. Their talent and depth is simply unbeatable. Individual competition is different. There is a lot of talent out there. Several top competitors don’t have fast teammates to push them, so they’ve got to push themselves. The question is, if/when faced with fast competition, will that overwhelm them or inspire them to greatness? Time will tell.

@brentburnett66582 жыл бұрын
Very good chance it will be broken again. Always wondered if or when Newbury park would rise up and produce national caliber runners. It took over 30 years. Love the attitude and coaching. It makes a big difference for not just one athlete but the entire team and program. Nice Young could’ve beat the state record being German Fernandez record. He wasn’t trying and was only about 4 second off of it. Nico said he should’ve gone for it but held back for nationals. Blew that record out of the water. Nico has gone on to run second fasted 5k in college. Colin is just getting started by nau and the twins being the young’s are hardly racing. Very little point but maybe we will see them go all out at state. On the track they have quick times like 2nd fastest all time and some all time indoor 3000meters. Aaron sahlman is very quick 800m and the team really is strong top to bottom. The real drop off my come next year as coach brosnen has moved on leaving his wife pushing things forward for now. The thing to watch is how Stanford does next year. That is a loaded class. Top programs like nau byu all showing team strength. Utah keeps producing runners that take huge leaps in college. Eyestone and smith good at recruiting and developing. What USA needs is some of that rare air kipchoge is breathing. Nobody seems to have it like the goat. As good as Jakob is ….eliud is the real man to beat and his club so to speak. They train and develop marathon runners at the highest level. Love your videos as you have highlighted many of these runners at all levels. Love rooting for my panthers as it was sure fun competing back in the day. Love the attitudes of these fine young men and so entertaining to follow. I do think some records will still be broken. As good as they were last year they have just as much talent after losing their low stick. Next man up and they already have found a couple so we should see more records broken.
