I had fallen in love with a cabinet only to discover that it tested positive for Lead. I looked for ways to deal with it but everyone told me to send it to the dump. I found a company in the US that is the only company to make a paint stripper specifically for lead paint! You cannot buy this in any box store, at least here in Canada you cannot. @@Flippingdrawers what makes you think I didn't? You said yourself, you basically made a sarcophagus for the bits of the original you kept, my view is that it would have been safer not to disturb the toxic paint with a sander, and just take the dimensions to make a new piece, and as you only really use parts of the original as a skeleton frame, using a few pieces of non-contaminated wood few to form that frame would have been less work.
