I've already done the volcanic geology of Italy so here's a somewhat-related fun fact: in Romeo and Juliet, Juliet's nurse comments "'Tis since the earthquake now eleven years". The earthquake referred to in this comment is believed to not have occurred in Italy at all, despite Romeo and Juliet being set in Verona; it's thought that it refers to the 1580 Dover Straits earthquake, which caused widespread damage and some deaths across northern France and southern Britain. It was felt as far away as Scotland, where the 13-year-old future king of Scotland and England James VI and I was told it was the work of the devil, and Puritans in London blamed it on the emerging theatre scene at the time (they thought that the theatre scene was also devilry). More importantly, the 16-year-old William Shakespeare felt it, and when he began writing Romeo and Juliet eleven years later he made mention of it. Okay so the only relation is that the play an earthquake is mentioned in is set in Italy but whatever. It's a geology, history and culture fact, it's good enough (and, in my opinion, pretty cool).

Going for a legion early on is not bad but also not optimal. Levies are bigger in most cases and the money you save can be spent on mercenaries(with high martial generals preferably). Also, when fighting the AI one or two forts(in the capital of every province) is enough so don't be afraid to delete them.

Important to switch when u can to legions tho cause levies are a huge drain on pops which hurts the long game. I'm not saying you're wrong just something I wasn't mindful of for a while lol

@@doopmeister8676 , I think your point is valid but I usually stick to levies, just a personal preference. If you blob/assimilate enough pops that becomes a non-problem and the money I save can be spent on great wonders. In the mid to late game can't go wrong with either approach, but early on it just makes more sense to use levies imho.

Just to share the knowledge, Cisalpine Gaul literally means "Gaul on this side of the Alps" while Transalpine Gaul means "Gaul on that side of the Alps". The Romans were very direct with their naming conventions.

So, yeah, before Romans made Italy into what we know now to be Italy, north Italy was populated by Gallic tribes (those tribes also sacked Rome like a century or so IIRC before the game starts)... As another fun fact, 'cis' in Cisalpine Gaul is a prefix meant to denote 'near' as in 'the Gaul that is near us and on our side of the Alps' while Transalpine Gaul has 'trans' as prefix denoting 'the Gaul that is far from us and on the other side of the Alps (and that is the latin origin of meaning of words which we now generally refer to gender with)

Unlike EU4 you want to have a fort in every province and not just on the borders. Forts reduce unrest which increases province loyalty. So at least 1 fort per province and 2-3 for newly conquered states. That along with theaters and temples when you can research them. Second trick is if a province has declining loyalty of less than 34, you can switch the governor out and back and they will usually change to harsh treatment without wasting PP. At a small cost of loyalty, hopefully you didn't assign the governors job to someone with low loyalty beforehand. Third is to have only 1 city per province, obviously your province capital. It's more efficient to have have 1 city with 90 pops than 3 with 30. Pick a place with the best habitability even if its not the best resource available. Exceptions being a low population province (below 30-40) where it may be ok to have a 2nd city strictly as a granary silo. More available food increases pop growth, doesn't works as well in high pop states. Also your capital region where 4-6 cities may be ok for the trade bonuses. 4th and more challenging; Tyranny is your friend. Not a good one but it's the best source for AE reduction, plus adds to slave output, so more tax money. So sack/destroy cities that you don't need. Just be weary of loyalty, maybe research loyalty techs. Next once you get legions there is an exploit where you can get them almost unlimited morale. It just depends on how many foreign holy sites you have access to, each one is supposed to give 10% permanent morale boost to a legion when sacked. Its supposed to only do it once. But due to the game being perfectly balanced. What you can do is split up which ever legion you want to do this to and send one to however number of temples you want. Then pause the game and go through all the units and destroy each holy site with the legion. You'll see the event pop up repeatedly. I've gotten a 400% morale boost in Ironman. Usually I restrict myself to a meager 50-100% boost as I try to spread it around all my legions. And morale actually increases your damage output. My legions can easily fight 4-5 times their number, such victories give more rewards and bonuses. Eventually you'll have a single 10k legion smashing 100k troops. Lastly horse archers are OP, just like in real life. If you have access to the Persian military branch use them instead of heavy infantry and cavalry. Don't give them logistics or engineers. Have dedicated siege legions with infantry set aside. Because they can move at speed for 4, double the speed of infantry at 2. And they have 5 maneuver in battle. Basically they can hit everyone around them. Combined with the Persian bonuses and the special doctrine they're like roving helicopter gunships. The only thing that can stop them is a dedicated army of light cav but the AI never makes such an army. And they're good as far as army weight, not having the extra weight modifier that heavy cav has. Early steppe horde goes BRRT!

I’ve always heard of this game but never gave it much of a look. After seeing this I might consider it. Looks neat and kinda have some CK qualities about it and I really love CK. Also some EU4 qualities about it too. Love both. So definitely gonna give this a look (once Baldur’s Gate lets go of its grasp on me same with Armored Core)

I love this game, have played it more than Victoria 3, CK3, and maybe Stellaris. This game was properly the paradox game that had the biggest potetial, but sadly got canceled. The state of the game is however good and with this mod even better. The game is fully playable and I will soon get back to it too.

Well it can't be helped that they released a game that was essentially empty of flavor for all but a few nations. Then the mechanics and UI were very busted and that didn't really get resolved until people had already stopped playing the game hell even now base game is a pain to play. The game really needed like another year to cook before release and probably a playtest.

I have about an hour of Imperator: Rome from when it went free to play a few years ago, and while I had no idea what I was doing, I kind of liked it. It's too bad that, to quote Benny from Fallout: New Vegas "the game was rigged from the start." And hey, that game had the Roman Empire in it, too! I actually might grab Imperator with that tasty 75% discount. Probably will be better at it that HoI once I figure it out.

Imperator is good only if you actually play as Rome. A playthrough with other factions, especially minors, shows you how awful the AI actually is and how broken the game is at its core.
