There's a white enchantment called Fanatical Devotion that lets you sacrifice a creature to regenerate another creature without any additional cost. Perfect for protecting Hofri while playing into the steal/sacrifice strategy

One budget card that I would definitely add is the commander from my other Boros Deck. Brion Stoutarm, repeatable fling with lifelink is just what this deck needs. 1. Steal Opponent's Creature 2. Hit Opponent with stolen Creature 3. Throw stolen creature at Opponent 4. Create token in loving memory of creature. :-)

I am here to get rhythm. The algorithm that is. Always turning out quality content. I am thinking of making a big hobby change to quit miniatures and pursue MTG primarily. This channel helps me get up to speed on mechanics and the game as a whole.

One of the many reasons I love this channel is how Mitch is able to see those incredible strategies that I cannot. I always disregarded Hofri as a commander that was for spirit tribal or for spirit shenanigans with your own creatures. Mitch just changed this deck around to be a full theft deck. I was just about to dismantle my boros voltron deck and now I got a brand new deck to work on in my favourite colour combination.

Hey, Mitch! I wanted you to know that I built this deck to play at Christmas against my brothers, and it was an absolute blast. I was able to get the Hofri engine going pretty early in the game and was one turn away from winning by using their commanders against them, but was defeated by a Pako + Haldan deck. This deck does all the aggro-control things that make my heart happy.

I run hofri like this and suggest cutting the makeshift munitions and slot in fanatical devotion. Free sac outlet that will regenerate something your opponent is trying to kill 😊 add song of the worldsoul to make tons of copies of your new toys

The clarification text wasn't an ability oversight, it's a game rule understanding thing. It's not possible to have cards you don't own in your graveyard, baseline. Hofri was updated to make that clearer.

I've been building Hofri for the past week and this video just blew my mind and has taken me back to the drawing board. A few expensive upgrades that can really kick this into high gear are: Anointed Procession, the various Altars, and skullclamp. I also like enchantments that give vigilance like Brave the Sands and Intangible Virtue, because who doesn't like creatures with haste AND vigilance?

Shifting Shadows would be an interesting card for the deck. Stick it on one of your mana ramp creatures and you can start cycling through every creature in your deck, making a new token each time around while getting a new creature from your library

Great idea! I’d been wondering how to make a good Threaten deck, and this looks like it. I’m giving up on my Awaken the Blood Avatar deck, so I have plenty of relevant pieces and Boros lands kicking around. I also like Relic Vial for this deck since Hofri’s a cleric, it’ll work like one of the other sac outlets you used but with an added life drain.

I made an amazing mardu deck with this exact theme. It was Breeches, Brazen Plunderer and Ravos, Soultender. It had a load of aristocrats shenanigans. Garna, kardur, gisela, and iroas are some extreme heavy hitters in that deck.

I personally built this deck as a boros flicker/sacrifice strategy, I play a couple steal effects but found that against decks that aren't creature based it doesnt do much your better off doubling down on value etbs. Earth cult elemental is a banger.

I do like the deck and have most of the cards already. I am going to swap out a card though. I am going to use Relic Vial from Zendikar Rising over Phyrexian Vault. They both have the same mana value, cost of activation, and draw a card upon activation but the Relic Vial also has an additional benefit while you have your commander out. It is also less than a dime near mint on TCG at the time of this posting.

I had a Brion Stoutarm deck for a long time that followed a similar strategy with etbs and threaten effects. When Hofri came out I had to buy one and replace Brion with him. Though Brion still sits in the 99 for nostalgia purposes

I too run a hofri deck. It can be pretty oppressive. I run him a bit more tool box-y. With ETB that shoot artifacts or exile creatures and stuff. A ton of sac outlets. I hate how much phyrexian altar cost nowadays but I was able to snag one in a trade

I feel like Maskwood Nexus should be an include here. It auto qualifies your creatures for Hofri, and combos with recruiter and a sac outlet to steal everything

I built Hofri when it was first revealed in Strixhaven, and easily the best card in the deck is Sneak Attack. For those building Hofri, put in Sneak Attack if you can afford it! You will not be disappointed. Purphoros Bronze Blooded is a more budget friendly version of the same effect.

If Hofri is not on the battlefield after a creature was exiled with his passive ability, does that creature stay exiled if the spirit is destroyed afterwards, or does that creature automatically go to the graveyard?

No. the last part of hofris ability makes sure the exiled cards end up in the graveyard.

Wait hang on, does Coercive recruiter go infinite with a sac outlet and the commander on the board? Here's my thoughts: Commander makes token copies, sac outlet does it's thing, but the Recruiter says that when it or another *pirate* etbs, you gain control of another creature, *and it becomes a pirate until end of turn*. If you then sac the creature with your commander out, he makes a token copy of it that's a spirit in addition to it's other types - in this case, would the copy also be a pirate because of Recruiter's effect? Because, if so, it creates an infinite feedback loop that only ends when every creature on the board is under your control. Am I understanding this right? Am I missing something?

Unfortunately this doesn’t work. Creature types gained by spells/abilities and not printed on the copied card, like the pirate subtype in this case, are not considered “copiable values.” Since the pirate subtype isn’t a copiable value, the new token will not be a pirate and not retrigger coercive recruiter.
