This is not a "sad" song. It is a song of peace and promise. Those words written in red are the words of Jesus. If you believe in Him, you WILL see those you love (who also believe) again, in Heaven.

As someone in those final years,I find this song gives me more peace than sadness. The belief this old man had was in the words of Jesus in the Bible…the “words written in red” and the comfort in knowing he would see his loved ones again. I am SO counting on that as loving them in my memories is not enough anymore.💔. Taylor, hon,I had a heart connection with you the very first time I saw your eyes fill with tears while listening to a song, because I have always been the same way. And Stephen, you don’t fool anyone,my friend…I’ve seen that “glistening” in your eyes more than once, and,to this old lady;it takes a strong man to show a tender heart! I loved your reactions to this beautiful song!❤️❤️

If you want this. It is open to you too. Pray this prayer from your heart. Dear God, I know that I am a Sinner. I believe that Jesus Christ, your Son, died on the cross for my sin and rose from the dead to be my Lord. God, I now repent of my sin and personally invite Jesus into my life. Thank you, Jesus for giving me the free gift of eternal life. I promise to live for You as You reveal Yourself to me through your Word, the Bible. In Jesus name, I pray, Amen

Mamma used to send him over with things. He believed and trusted her judgement. He became friends with the old man. He believed, over time, what they shared. The old man passed on his faith in there being something more. It wasn't til the old man died that he had to wrestle with these things himself. The life, the shared experiences all of it together was ALL Belief. I am an older person and I took great comfort in this song. I have buried more friends and family, and I too BELIEVE that it doesn't end in a slow ride in a hearse. It gives me peace.

It is sad but hopeful and beautiful at the same time. Sad because of the loss the boy felt, but hopeful because the old man held his belief all those years that he would be reunited with his wife and baby when he passed. I have heard a lot of “sad” songs since I was a teen in the 60s. Usually do not make me cry because the singers are not “feeling” the song themselves. Great voices, great music, great sad lyrics, but still fell short. With or without an MV. I have great respect for singers who put themselves into that vulnerable place while they sing and make me cry. My all time favorite group, S. Korean, made me laugh, cry, angry, heartbroken, rock to the beat, and wish I could give them granny hugs. Including during their live performances and me not understanding a single word.

J D Souther (who wrote many songs that were recorded by the Eagles, Linda Ronstadt, Jackson Browne etc) once said in an interview, he hated country music when he was younger. Thought to was all nothing but simple, "crying in your beer" corny hillbilly music., But he said once he started actually listening to more of it and studying it and writing more country style music himself, he started to realize just what an art form it actually is and formed a real appreciation for it.

It was a long time for me between hearing the song on the radio when it came out in 2005, then seeing the video on here, but there has always been tears in my case. First they were tears of sadness, but now they are tears of the soul. I’m 61, and I know that I have little time left on this Earth and as I lose more and more friends and loved ones to the grave, I find that soul desperately reaching for that Far Country…to be reunited with them and with my Lord, Savior and Best Friend, Jesus Christ. So, for me this song is all about the yearning. I know what Mr. Wrigley was talking about, you see….and I believe.❤

This is a true childhood story of the singer Ronnie Dunn. It is a happy story really the old man taught the child about Jesus and heaven and how to pray. He will keep that for life and the old man is with his wife and child.

New sub because of your reactions! Don't ever apologize for crying or not crying! Pause as much as you need to, and if people don't like it so be it! They can just move along without being negative! 🤠

I think country music as a genre has the ability to address songs with really emotional impact. I'm not sure what you've reacted to, but the ones I think of are: Sad Little Girl --- John Michael Montgomery Concrete Angel --- Martina McBride Jacob's Dream --- Alison Krauss Great reaction.

Growing up being told I had to be tough made me hold in my emotions all the time. And after I had my first child I turned in to a cry baby, lol. I heard the song "Tough little boys by Gary Alan" and it spoke volumes to my heart. I would love to see what you think of it.
