I've worked with a few 1st gens and honestly if your considering a dana 80 swap the best way in my opinion is find yourself a wrecked 2nd gen. Nv4500-dana80-ppump donor truck. If I was to do it again, I would just swap the 1st gen cab/box onto a 2nd gen frame. 1st gen front leaf and steering setup really sucks.

thats the smart thing but it looks like hes short on space and that makes a axle swap and trans swap which are already a project into a fucking full on commitment
@johnmahon3460

or just buy a 2nd gen
@ToKiiNz

John Mahon or spend the same money since people want triple their value and find a decent 6.0. they are just as good at making power under 1k dont have garbo trans and built better
@ToKiiNz

John Mahon is it because you dont like that bulletproofed 6.0s are better then second gens? and cost virtually the same

Hey Greg, I've been watching everyone of your videos and I have a 91.5 d250 just like yours it's Intercooled, auto, and it's my first truck. I got it from a farmer when I was 14 for $2000 it's a 91.5 d250 auto no rust and 138k miles it's so similar to this truck to not even funny. Identical condition, surface rust on the frame and stuff but no actual rot. I'm 16 almost 17 now and I've straight piped it, made a intake for it using the factory air box and just making more holes for airflow and added a filter and made a cover out of plexiglass so it's clear and looks cool and bought some 4in exhaust pipe from a local shop and cut it to fit and bought silicone boots. Also I fixed the kdp and replaced the seal and valve lash adjusted and new valve cover gaskets. And fluids and maintenance and stuff. Also I had a 12mm ve pump built its fully benched and performance calibrated and I just need brakes, front end rebuilt, and new injectors cause I have a bad one and it will be ready to daily drive. Love the build keep it up.

I couldn't tell from the angle, is it a factory LSD? If it is, I'd spend the $100 in parts to rebuild the brakes, and get the drums turned. If it isn't a LSD, then it would probably be cheaper to rear swap it. Can't be having the one wheel peel!
@willm5723
@willm5723 7 жыл бұрын
Dana 80 SRW is significantly wider than the 70. I'd stick with the 70. I've had some brake problems with mine, and have pulled the axle and drum probably a dozen times in the last 2 years. You get use to it. Lol

greasymechanic yeah I thought the valves would float over 3500rpm. I want to get a 3400rpm spring . I have done a lot of pump mods straight piped side dump behind cab. I also use diesel additive and some bio diesel for pump lube. since the new ulsd diesel is so dry it is not good for our old ve pumps. It has been tested that 2%bio diesel is the best for lubricity. Better than 2 stroke oil or Howes diesel lubricant,Power service additives etc..

Greg, if you're gonna make it a race truck, you may as well throw the money in for a Dana 80 with the disc brakes. Judging by how old that diff fluid was, there's a pretty good chance that rear diff isn't gonna last long, especially under a lot of power like you want to make. So if I were you I'd bite the bullet and buy the 80.
