Today's goal was to start framing up the firewall. And in order to do that we have to put the engine in and bolt it to the engine mounts to see where everything fits. Except, when we put the engine in it didn't look right at all 😑 bonus episode • Eventful weekend… swap...

The engine needs to roll a little bit about the crank axis. One engine mount may be a tad higher than the other. 1/16 of an inch will make a huge difference at the blower.

One engine mount is a little bit higher than the other one. Which is making the engine lean to one side. Thats why the drive line looks straight but the top of the motor is a bit off. Lower or raise one of the engine mount. Just cut the bracing off one of the mounts and move it up or down then rebrace it . Easy fix

Definitely a bunch of knuckleheads for a guy that doesn’t hardly use a ruler and eyes everything up by eye is worried about it being in the center !!! check the motor with a level from left side to right side. The motor is not straight. It’s down on the passenger side. You could see it. if it needs to be raised just a little bit that’ll put the carburetor’s right back in the middle of the car.

A tape measure would quickly tell you if it is centered. Also, you did not measure when making the motor mounts, so if it is off that is why. Tape measures/rulers and levels are your friend when you want to be precise. Also, using a jack under the transmission would allow you to raise, or low it as needed. Where is the common sense? This episode was hard for me to watch, because I wish I could tell them what to do.

@petermoore2574
@petermoore2574 Ай бұрын
The chassis has no strength so it is moving. That is why you had trouble getting the bolts through the second time. You are determined to put that heavy motor into a weak frame and that is exactly the wrong thing to do. Doug is right. Listen to him. To do it your way necessitates a lightweight fake engine for a mockup. But the best way for design, ergonomics, safety, steering, centre of gravity and all other things is to determine the BEST place for the engine for the type of use for that vehicle and then alter the chassis or install a complete front end with susp, brakes with its engine mounts. All of that necessitates body off first. Foundational work done and then alter the body appatures to suit. This isn't hate talk. Is it? But you probably think it is.

"THAT ENGINE IS FRUSTRATING TO FIT!" Measure the motor mounts, body mounts, frame, and body. Something shifted. That engine looks like it's 1/2" - 1" inch too far to the right. Why do things always shift after welding? "CRAP!!!" Watching you two is stressing me out. Oh, it's just the breather that's off. Okay. Just a thought: if that engine starts up and the torque will shift it to the left. Maybe the engine center will correct it self.

Sometimes I really don't understand him... first, he welded the extra reinforcement without the engine mounted... of course weld pulled the mount! further... loosen the screws that hold the bracket to the engine block a little, and when you get the screw through, tighten them! further... sharpen the screw on the top a bit and it will find its own way! he did everything to create problems... and he succeeded! and... why doesn't he make engine mounts with horizontal screws so he can adjust the position of the engine... when he finds what he wants, make a fixed mount over that!

The drive train being misaligned can cause so many problems down the road. It’s prob the one thing you can’t eyeball. Also the firewall your rolling on the inside with “structural “ pieces going down. Are you going to skin both side. When I have done firewalls they were down from engine compartment and when hood opens all you see is sheet metal ? Are you leaving structure peices exposed ?

I’m happy Chad I’m happy with it buddy . I think you did amazing job on that motor mount the whole car for that matter be happy you got Jolene to huge and say it’s in bolted in she is amazing on that camera just take your time we all will watch every day any ways so don’t feel rushed like I said before check the size of your extension cord like the regular orange and yellow will be ok with grinders but welders and any kind of a bigger plasma cutter needs to be on a heavy duty cord for full amps to the welder if you got a 100 foot cord it will not be heavy to give the welder the power it needs to penetrate the metal just trying to help
