As a mechanical engineer I really appreciate your way of telling people that they don't need a big workshop and complex tools to make useful stuff at home! Keep it up!

Haxman does demonstrate that well. Of course, that is basic to "the American way" & hot rodding, which sprang from need for parts or repairs not elsewise available. I was trained to avoid waste by buying or building the best available, properly maintain to prevent breakage or premature wear, & repair, rather than throw away. Never throw away what is repairable or useful. If replacing, give it to someone who needs it. Hax got it goin' on.

You took me back 50 years man. My grandmother built one pizza oven by herself from clay, right in her yard . Given my grandpa was the kind to "I'll make it later", she took the initiative . She got a large barrel cover , and mixed clay with hay . She built walls and roof , and placed the barrel cover (cooking surface) in the middle . She made the best pita bread and Mediterranean pizzas right in her backyard . She paid nothing for the oven. OF course, my grandpa came at the end to criticize and suggest improvements. Thanks for reminding me of my grandparents.

Haxman, this was very nostalgic for me in so many ways. I went to College in Nashville, Vanderbilt 1970. so there-s the accent nostalgia. both my bro and I are very do it yourselfers. He eventually moved to Tennessee and raised his 4 girls there (he passed last September) I'm more of the bookish type but I do a lot of my own cooking and jerry rigging things I don't have. We are also great jokesters and your side comments and rising up in the barrel made me smile many times. Thanks for this. I look forward to more of your content. Jim Retired to Mexico 🧨✨

I've found that a regular charcoal grill works pretty great as a pizza oven. Put a pizza stone on it and then cover with a lid. Let it sit over the coals for about 5-10 minutes and you're golden

As a city dweller all I can do is admire what ever it is that you are doing. I can't have a fire pit no matter how smokeless it is. Nor can I have a garden of build a fence. I have however in my 58 years had a Pizza or 2, who am I kidding as an Italian Pizza is it's own food group. You sir need to bake that Pizza a little while longer. It looked floppy and I didn't hear any crunch when you bit into it. Make me proud that I have something to contribute and char the bottom of your next pie. God bless you sir and well done. .....Yes that too, the Pizza should be well done.

The whole point of a pizza oven is to make pizza that isn't soggy. Agree 100%. Stoke the heat higher and/or cook more.

I just commented similarly and glad to see confirmation of my humble opinion. Pizza is always a work in progress and even slightly undercooked eats well enough until next cook... In my line of work, I only understand food but I'm here to learn what you engineering minds will share. I love to hang out with the smart guys and always try to trade dinner for the opportunity to do so.

Good pizza oven. A recommendation, put some rebar in the cement slates. It will give the slate more structure. You will be putting little loads. But the slates loaded or not tend to break in the middle, more so when there are thermal changes. Thermal resistant cement, is no exception to this rule of the thumb. So when you have to change it, put a small grid of 0,4 or 0,6 rebars grill in there. The slate will come more wholesome and will not crumble easy.

A minor adjustment recommendation: cut the top part open of the barrel and get an old/used 22” weber kettle lid to mimic the dome shape traditional brick oven. Mod the lid to put on an exhaust/ chimney. But first use the lid from your kettle to see if it can be a perfect fit. Would love to see how that would turns out
@mikefinley4367
@mikefinley4367 2 жыл бұрын
Your suggestion isn't bad, however, it's more about using his already open fire pit, the least items to purchase so it's as financially cheap as possible and if you note the temp he got ...a chimney allows more heat to escape. It may look more appealing in respect to other types of outdoor ovens but this works best as it is. Metal, however won't hold the heat like brick will when the fire dies. He probably could have cooked right pizzas if they were ready to go one after another without adding wood. Your idea has looks but I married a high maintenance woman and looks are not always the best choice. A barrel that hot eventually burns out but hey, it will last two or more years with fairly frequent use. Unfortunately the stupid green freaks are attacking anything wood burning as they want to be dependent on the grid and constant rate increases.

@luckyree9 All the water heaters I've seen are very thin walled steel and more like tin foil compared to drum stee. Water heaters are usually two thin walls with insulation between.anf a waste of your time .

@ster chimney is for single chamber ovens. This is two chambers. Anywho the chimney is to let smoke out. Its already letting smoke out. Also dont need dome. Domes radiate heat inward using stone radiant heat. This one is made of steel not stone. The heat source is also from beneath in separate chamber. This is more like a grill oven than a stone pizza oven.

I built my version of this about 5 years ago. Used threaded rod to build a rack in the upper 1/3 and put an 18" pizza stone in it. Saves tons of time/labor and never have to worry about degradation over time from the extreme heat. Favorite fuel is lump charcoal with a chunk of wood from time to time. Good stuff!

Or, continue to rework dough formula. 😉. ❤️ Gets hot, looks great, love the plan rather than doing all brick \ cement. Those big drums make into fantastic cookers across the board. This may be my next project here in South Louisiana. And pizza is my main squeeze.

Just discovered the HAXMAN channel tonight. Details are great but there was a description of the channel that just came to me; Tim the Toolman without Al! Great content on prepping too without the super fear factor!

I used hardibacker as my pizza "stone" and it worked quite well. Lots easier than making a mold and mixing concrete.
