I found a dog like this many years ago at the side of the road in the country, I managed to catch her fortunately because she gave up and she thought she was hiding from me, lol. When I grabbed her she bit me, she was so scared but the bite was so weak. I drove her straight to the vet and dropped her off shortly before they closed. The next day they told me that the staff shaved her off right after I dropped her off to release her from those matts. The vet estimated her to be one year old and she was a Shih Tzu… When I picked her up they put her in my arms, her skin was still so sore. It took her a year to become fully confident and loose her stiffening fear around strangers. She is still with us today the old lady. She was the best gift that ever happened to us, I can’t imagine life without her had I taken a different route home on that day… what an adorable dog, I hope she also finds a good home…

I have a very similar story with my boy Ripley. He was about ten months old when I found him and had obviously been neglected, if not straight up abused - he had never had his hair cut, was starving, scared, and shied away from people for a long time. He's a shih-tzu mix, but we originally thought he was a bigger breed because he had so much hair and it made him look bigger than he was. He's nine and a half now and he's the best dog I have ever had the blessing of knowing. I thank God every day that he is mine. I love that boy dearly. Theres something special about rescues that sets them apart from other dogs.

@Lesgo Brandon What the hell is wrong with you? She didn't want to go because people neglected her maybe even abused her, OF COURSE she'll have a problem with trusting people again! She was evidently struggling, many, especially smaller dog breeds (edit: which Shih Tzu definitely is) can't survive outside on their own and you would have left her there? We did this to them, we bred them like this, so now we have to take care of them. And I am not even mentioning that you took race discussion into this... taking your complexes out on other people for no reason is pretty pathetic y'know

I've enjoyed the companionship of two shid tzus. My older gal died a couple years ago at 16. My younger one is still well at nearly 12. She's about the most friendly and chill critter I've ever met. She and my nearly 18yo ginger cat are best buddies, too. 😸

I found a dog that was in just as bad as shape as this one. It took me 4 hours to shave him. He was such a good boy while I did it. He knew I was saving his life. He's my best buddy now. ❤

My nephew's dog couldn't keep his dog, so I took him. His toenails were so long, like bear claw. I took him to the groomer the following week & told them to clip those nails. He went from a quiet, shy, frightful dog to being so happy. His nails before must have hurt. Totally different attitude now.

I had a dog similar to the one the groomer is grooming, I had tried on numerous occasions to take her to get groom, but she wanted no parts of it, she bit the groomer so many times, they had me bring her back so she would of gotten to know them and trust them. With my little girl this was not happing, so I went online to learn how to trim her. She was such a sweetheart when it came to trimming her, she only allow me to trim her. She lived till she was 18 years old. I still her with me in her beautiful little box.

Norma here. I’m amazed at how calm this little girl was and how gentle you were with her. You did an excellent job and didn’t stop until you were satisfied that she was perfectly done. You were so gentle with her, gave her breaks, and didn't overreact when she nipped you. The grooming was perfect! Thank you for the love and respect you gave her. I rescued a schnauzer/terrier mix years ago from the side of the road in a box. She was matted too. I worked at a vet clinic and the groomer let me borrow her tools to clip and trim her. She was the best dog ever! I kept her, had her for 18 years💕

Coming from the vet field, I promise you dogs pick up on true intentions. I can't even count the times we would have animals who were in really rough shape and all we wanted to do was help and make them feel better and they knew that so they wouldn't fight us. They would sit there and let us do what was needed and the change in their personalities afterwards always made me emotional. Dogs are truly incredible creatures. Thank you for helping this poor baby.

Side note: It absolutely breaks my heart to see animals get like this. People don't understand how much it effects the animals health. This is why more often than not animals that are OVERLY matted and grown out are so lethargic.

So thankful for people like you that's take the time to care for these poor dogs, who only want love and to make their owners happy. It's heartbreaking when owners neglect and abuse such loving loyal creatures. Dogs have more love, forgiveness and a lot more caring then most people have. Those chunks of matted hair make a thumping sound when they hit the trash bin. Stiff and heavy, they've been pulling on her skin for a long time, poor baby! Anaplasmosis is a tough illness. Thanks for cleaning up Bucka to make her feel better, she's very cute. For the love of these strays and to help out in some way, I'll make a donation to your friend who rescues them. Hope Bucka will be adopted by caring and loving people.

He said in the update above that it was found out she had a virus and is receiving medication now. The infection probably made her tired.

@@tabby73 it's bacteria's not a virus. Anaplasmosis is bacteria from tick bites. Viruses get antivirals and bacteria gets antibiotics. She's getting antibiotics twice a day to treat it.

Lethargy is a symptom of anaplasmosis hence why she seems down. She's already unwell and then you add the extra burden of being heavily matted. It's like she has a severe case of the flu. Thankfully it's treatable and she is getting treatment.

Just to let you know my dog has hair just like this. And if something was to happen to me, this would happen. I tell my friends and family. That I must comb her hair every day. If a week went by there would be atleast 20 mats. I tell them so they know. That she must be combed out. Otherwise this would happen like this Dog. So don't assume this is neglect or abuse. Some Dogs never get issues like this one. So not all People are aware. That this can happen to a Dog. Unless they have experienced this type of fur. So please be a little kinder.

Right! Before getting a pet we need to be mentally prepared that we're making around a 20 year commitment. Heck, it's like adopting a baby. When you adopt one, you don't plan on leaving them - at least not until death separates the two.

@@j.l.t.5740 My Dog is a rescue. I did not know her bloodline. Only vagely. And rescues are encouraged. Because of all the shady breeders. I love my Dog like my own Kids. 2 years ago I fell on the ice. And spent 3 days in the hospital. I signed myself out. And refused rehab. Because I wanted to get home to my Puppy that was 6 months old. Thank God I have good Insurance. And was able to do it at home. My Friends and Family tried. But I was already aware of her fur issues. Because I let her play in the snow. Weeks before my fall. I call her "My little Gremlin" Because when I got her in the house. She was head to toe mats. Any water that gets on her. Instantaneously turns her fur into mats. Do some of your own research. Before you accuse. This situation could of been an old person that took sick and died in their house. And the Dog was left in the house. Untill the Family could find a home. With my situation It was a blessing in disguise. Because I learned what my Dog was capable of. Intelligence wise. And I am teaching her to be a Therapy Dog. For visiting sick Children. Not everything is always what it seems.

She was scared of dryer as she took a 'swipe' nibble at his stomach telling him please stop. But he was beyond amazing with her. Gentle calming easy caring and a dog nurturer. I would take her if...😍😍😍

The dog is totally shut down. Look at her at the end, trying to hide with her tail between her legs. She is not being well behaved, she is extremely depressed and shut down. Dogs have their own body language- poor baby has been through a lot

I have watched many professional dog groomers videos and they frustrate the hell out of me for the level of their insensitivity toward the dogs they were grooming. Yours has been the only one that I find comforting to watch because of the level of care and considerateness that you took shows how zealous you are in what you do - from constantly checking the blades heat level and changing them, spraying some disinfecting solution on the blades, removing of hairs in the ears, the pre-diluted bottled shampoos for efficient application and double shampooing, giving a treat, water and kibbles! You seem to have the perfect personality trait and passion in dog grooming and you executed everything with meticulousness. Mad respect for you! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🤩🤩🤩

It sure was can't believe how well behaved after such sadness she's been through. I have two girl shitzu girls they are well maintained would never let them get like much so my younger bit naughtier then older one she don't like being still but I get there grooming in the end. I would rehome that baby I live in England. I would imagine by now she as new home who could refuse such gentle soul as her.

I don't see how he was overly gentle or kind. He just did it and didn't say much. When I cut my dog I pet her and tell her how good she is. It's like a special close time together because she enjoys the relaxing buzz of the shaver. Maybe I go overboard being nice to her. I'm not one to be treating a dog like a baby, but she adores me so I must be doing something right.

@@AmandaCharlotteChester def no sedation. They would need a shaved arm/leg before they started to stick the needle, which the dog didn't have. They would also never draw blood or inject to sedate on such an unclean dog. Risk of infection for sure. Also they have no medical history on this animal. Just like humans, we have allergies or heart and lung problems that all need to be account for before any type of medication ESPECIALLY sedation or we could die. Finally, and this is trivial, but no bandage on the dog. An injection site should have a pressure gauze on it for at least 20 min especially if the dog is nervous because they can begin to bleed out again. U aren't going to sedate a dog and wait any longer than several minutes to begin a procedure.
