it would happen eventually but having them face each other like this takes a lot of steam out of the Swiss stage - it means that some very uncompetitive Bo3s are coming our way.. the games tomorrow are boring because we've seen the match-ups so often, they are only Bo1 but they will be more important than most Bo3s - imagine narrowly losing a close regional match tomorrow only to face the loser of KT-DK in a Bo3 - they will basically become the grim reaper down there at 0-2 and 1-2 they will send some NA and EU seeds straight home lets hope the regional matches end here - imagine T1 losing to Gen, KT winning DK and then drawing T1-KT, only to draw T1-DK for elimination or something like that..how shit would that be

I feel like it would be worse if for example both 0-1 NA teams met KT and DK tomorrow and then met each other in the 0-2 bo3 elim match. This draw, while creating a lackluster day 2, increases the chance for non-domestic bo3s since you can't meet the same team twice and ensures more mixed pools for the next draw.

This is the whole point of the swiss, avoiding the scenario in which the 8 best teams in the tournament all make it to quarters, because that would mean that G2 would likely be the only western team being there. This way they can kick at least one top 8 team and insert a wildcard like C9 or the like. Riot values the "upset" qualification way more than a bad quick 3-0 BO5 in playoffs, so they'd rather have a team like C9 or FNC there for the "storyline" in swiss instead of a team like DK or KT, even if that means sacrificing a BO5 in playoffs.

It's better to have the strongest teams in R1 or R2, to face each other. That are no elimination matches. It only means, one strong team needs one more best of 1 game to get another win against a 1-1 team to get a 2:1. And in this draw in R3 A JDG or BLG now only has to fear a T1 or GenG in another only Bo1. Also a non Elim. Match. So where is that a problem? Than one will 1:2 and another 2:1. The 1:2, let's say it's BLG. They will clearly destroy every lower team in BO3 Who would now stop them? Jeah only maybe a DK or KT that are at in the 0:1 pool. So this draw today was one of the possible best outcomes. Let's think about another draw, where western teams get a surprise win. If all the teams of certain regions are stronger, then yes. For example, of LPL disnt sraw eachother and all went 2-0, then yes, it would happen regardless. But if you think for example GenG, JDG, BLG and T1 are the top 4 teams, they could have had no domestic draws in their entire swiss run. R2: geng vs lng, t1 vs wbg, jdg vs g2, blg vs c9. R3: geng vs blg, t1 vs jdg. Losers play in 2-1, where t1 could draw lng, and loser of geng/blg could draw a western team. Swiss is a mess, and domestic matchups now, are better than later, bit its still painfull to see
