This is the simplest most effective tip I've ever heard. I applied it this morning and it is as advertised - ball striking was great. I hit 10 fairways off the tee, and 10 greens in regulation. So simple! Stay connected, turn the shoulders, and then apply this technique with the right arm and great things happen! Thank you Tom!

Grip, position in relation to ball, target line, I could go on. Thanks for this one! This is definitely a very important position, as you have shown in many of your videos 👍 I think the reason we as amateurs disconnect the arms and elbow in the downswing is that the feeling is that we can't hit it hard ( distance) this way. Just have to trust that the swing speed will improve as the body learns to rotate faster and use ground forces better
@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf 7 ай бұрын
I appreciate that and I'm very glad to know that this lesson resonated with you; I hope it performs well when you put it into practice! I understand that these concepts may be foreign to amateur golfers who were taught to shift their weight, turn their shoulders more level, and independently lift the club with the hands and arms. In the vast majority of cases that is not working out very well for them, and I speak from experience because not only was I previously among them, but I see the "steep and weak" outcome of the "shift and lift" motion every day. If the golfer can retrain themselves to take their hands in deep while remaining centered and allowing their lead shoulder to work down, they will be in great position to transition into a proper and powerful move through the ball that produces seemingly effortless distance. This is part of what the online school teaches and drills in through step-by-step, position-by-position detail, and it is why so many folks spanning all age ranges and abilities are now enjoying the best golf of their lives. At just $14.99/month or $149.99 per year the value in terms of what you get for that price point is beyond comprehension, and based on proven results it represents by far the best golf instruction deal on the planet. Thanks for your message and keep up the great work! Tom

This is the absolute best lesson/video that I’ve ever seen. I am way too right hand dominant and this method has a couple of benefits for my swing. 1, it keeps my right hand from taking over which leads to bad paths and over the top tendencies. 2, It also makes the swing plane automatic. I don’t even think about swing plane anymore. You can’t get off plane. I’m hitting it much straighter, much higher, and effortless. The drawing of Ben Hogan skipping stones never made sense to me, til now! Merci Mr Saguto!

Where were your ball position on these series of shots.
@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf 6 ай бұрын
We first need to be aware that camera angles can greatly skew the viewer's perspective on ball position. That aside, while this system affords you some leeway, in general once my students and members show some level of proficiency with the swing I suggest that they migrate to a stock ball position that is in the middle of the stance for short irons, two balls inside the lead heel for middle irons, and creeping more forward for the longer clubs - the farthest forward being even with the inside of the lead heel for the driver (with the stance width increasing as we move from shorter to longer clubs). From there they can make incremental tweaks to see how different positions affect impact quality and shot shape. (By the way, I strongly suggest using alignment sticks when monitoring ball position - one on the foot line, a second one parallel to the first to mark the target line, and a third perpendicular to these to show ball position - as our side-on view from above tends to skew our perspective of the actual location of the ball relative to our stance.) As for hand position, it remains consistent - even with the inside of your lead thigh - no matter which club you are hitting. Additionally, the lead arm and club shaft should form a straight line from the face-on view, giving your setup a lowercase "y" look. TS

I have been watching your videos for a while now, learning something every time! Your tilt through the ball in the downswing is what i am missing. My full swing is better from watching your knee and leg movement in the swing. I am able to get a full turn in the backswing. Trying to understand how to maintain the tilt. Left should at the ball, Right shoulder through the ball. My thought is to hit the ball with my right shoulder. Having my weight on the lead side is also a struggle. For some reason I am struggling to understand the coordination or setup or magic. You are able to put 80% of your weight on the lead foot at impact. I understand that i am thinking too much but this is what I perceive are needs. I do have a coach who teaches a little bit of stack and tilt. I have just purchased the book ‘stack and tilt’. I am studying and taking notes. I have noticed that every shot is straight to baby draw and sometimes hook. My coach tells me to be right of the target because it is easier to control the spin left to right. My power seems to be better but needs improvement. Thank you for fantastic teaching and kindness with great compassion.
@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf 7 ай бұрын
I appreciate your kind and supportive words, and I commend you on your commitment! Just a few thoughts... Stack and Tilt is a robust *_system,_* and not just a style or methodology. It's very difficult to do or teach "a little bit of S&T". From the ground up there is nothing superfluous in the Stack & Tilt swing - in other words, everything with a purpose, and a purpose for everything. In fact, you'll notice in the book that you just purchased - which was a very good move, by the way - that there is an entire chapter dedicated to the differences between S&T and "conventional", and these are numerous, significant, and go from setup to finish. (For example, contrary to shift & lift where you may be taught to keep your trail foot perpendicular to the target line as a means of "creating resistance" in your trail side, in S&T we flare both feet out 10-20 degrees in order to facilitate a free flowing, inclined hip and shoulder turn.) As such, it's best to be "all in" or not in at all, because a "hybrid" type of action is going to have you fighting yourself much of the time. I do understand your initial challenges with the weight-forward concept, as the "ghost of swings past" are stubborn and require time and focused effort to eradicate. The notion of a “weight” shift in the golf swing has sadly led many an amateur golfer into the vast abyss of chronic inconsistency and frustration. In fact, here is Jack Nicklaus on weight shift: "I don't believe in a lateral shift," says Nicklaus. "Of course not. I believe in staying on the ball." Asked what he thinks about teachers who advocate a weight shift, he answers, "They don't know how to play." Now, within Stack and Tilt there is certainly an allowance for a transfer of “pressure” into the trail side. After all, we are moving the mass of the arms and club back and around us during the takeaway and first part of the backswing. Some like to sense the dynamic pressure shifts; others prefer the feel of a gradual increasing of weight load into the lead leg from the start. However, in either scenario the key here is that we do not allow our mass - and thereby our swing center and low point - to drift back at any point. Finally, with all your excellent efforts, the one thing you have skirted is the online school where you can get on the fast track towards properly learning this swing system in a comprehensive, sequential platform. It will make for a far more efficient, superior, and enjoyable learning process rather than haphazardly trying to piece things together through these channel videos that jump around randomly from topic to topic. The school is where you will find very detailed instruction and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step, position-by-position from setup to finish, along with diagnostic and corrective tools for resolving common swing, contact, and ball flight issues, and much more. And that book you just purchased will serve as an excellent supplemental reference guide to what you learn in the school. *_Also, through the school you would still have access to the KFC Club channel member videos, so if you were to enroll there would be no need to maintain both memberships._* At just $14.99/month or $149.99 per year the value in terms of what you get for that price point is beyond comprehension, and based on proven results it represents by far the best golf instruction deal on the planet. Thanks again for your message. I hope this reply assists you in finding your path towards enjoying your best golf for the rest of your life! Tom

Today shooting 96 at a much more difficult golf course with very fast greens. I did hit some really fine irons and several great chips all from the elbow tuck videos. @@SagutoGolf Hi Tom, Yahoo!! I got it done! Recently played with a member that does Stack and Tilt. I moved my weight a little more forward and kept it there during the whole (complete) swing. Shots are higher and farther. Hell, my 8-iron stopped almost in its own pitch mark today. That hasn't happened in years! Haha, great shot but left me about 20 feet short. sheesh...very pleased though - 78 (6312 yards). To your point, this such an amazing technique. And is so easy on body parts!!

Tom, you focused on one of the most important parts to a golf swing, "swinging on an inclined circle." If you add in your "karate chop," you have a winning combination. Last week, my game was bonkers until I realized that I was not swinging on this inclined circle path. After I regained my focus, I was again hitting crispy chicken shots. Well Done Tom!

I'm very glad to know that my instruction is resonating with you; excellent job incorporating it into your swing and putting it into play! Yes - the “ghosts of swings past” do not disappear on their own, and if you are transitioning from a swing method that involved shifting weight into your trail side and/or lifting the club with your hands, those demons are going to take some time to exorcise! Be patient, be diligent, be committed, and you will conquer them! I slow down my swing in numerous videos, but even when I don't you can still manually adjust the playback of any YT video to as slow as 1/4-speed by clicking on the settings button at the lower right side of the video player. Or you can pause a video and press the period ( . ) button to advance frame by frame and the comma ( , ) to reverse frame by frame. Thanks so much for your support in sharing your improvement and keep up the great work!! 💪💪 Tom PS: By the way, if you'd really like to get on the fast track towards beating down those ghosts by properly learning this swing system in a comprehensive, sequential platform, please consider my online school. Thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result, and their unsolicited testimonials tell the story quite well: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews. Well, you have got it nailed there, Tom. And, by holding your right hand under the club, to place it on the club, you are setting your hand and arm in the position to serve up the perfect swing arc. The drinks tray drill that you do is very similar to the method David Leadbetter's old mentor: Terry Westbrook, taught me, only he told me to face my palm up in the actual takeaway, which, of course, is not correct. But, he, also, told me to make a downwards rotation of my left shoulder. And, the only way to do that is to make a downwards rotation of the left hand in the takeaway. But, turning the tight palm up does at least enable a player to swing back on the inside. So, as a drill, i hold the club out to the left with left hand, press my hand in front of the clubhead, which sets the club in motion; and, as I swing back with my left hand and arm, I swing back with my right arm and face my palm up; and then place my right hand on the club as late as I can in the backswing. Really enjoy doing that drill. But, certainly you have hit on a key fundamental there, by placing your right hand on the club from under the shaft. And, it is clear to see that it enables your swing to work like clockwork now. Yes, placing the right hand on the club this way does bring into debate the position of the V of the hand. But, the position of the V is relative to the position of the hands. Grip the club lightly, when you place your hands on the club, then raise your position; and the weight of the clubhead will ensure that the V will point more towards your right shoulder.

Great drill and definitely helps maintain that connection. Hitting all irons much better when doing this drill and focusing on it when hitting. Only issue was with driver I seemed to frequently get a blocked shot (great hit that soars and goes dead straight but dead right)? Am I keeping that elbow in too much? Didn't seem to happen with my 3 or 4 iron (which I hit GREAT!)?
@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf 7 ай бұрын
I appreciate you sharing your dramatic ball striking improvement with this drill, Ken - nice job incorporating it into your swing!! 💪💪 As for those straight pushes with the driver, your answer lies in ball flight laws. Clubface angle relative to target line is the primary influencer of the ball's starting line and face relative to path determines direction and degree of curvature. From there we can then do some reverse engineering to identify and neutralize the cause. So, in the case of a well struck straight push the face is open to the target line and square to the in-to-out downswing path. This could be something as simple as the ball position being too far back in your stance. That's a simple one to fix so I'd recommend checking that first. Stock ball position with the driver is even with the inside of the heel of the lead foot, but you can play with that a bit to suit your desires. Aside from that, other possibilities include your path has shallowed too much or that your swing still has some leftover remnants of subconscious compensatory moves that you made to neutralize a previously steeper path. Videoing your swing will help you in this regard. By the way, since my lesson content is performing well for you, I am confident you will also benefit from my FREE mini course - “The Top 3 Things You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ If you haven't already worked through it, this is a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this system as well as an introduction to the instruction style that has thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - enjoying the best golf of their lives: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews Thanks for your message and keep up the great work!! I'm 86 yrs old. In the 1960s and 70s, golf instruction came from publications like Golf Digest and Golf magazine. I remember one pro guest actually using a plate to demonstrate this exercise for helping your swing. Unfortunately, there were no televised presentations available to correctly show the arm in motion. It never became a part of swing instruction although some good instructors incorporated it into their lessons.

Hey Tom. Another great video! Question though. When you make impact don’t you have to return the club face back to square? Kind of the same question I have with the rock skipping video too.
@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf 7 ай бұрын
I'm very glad to know that this lesson resonated with you, and I hope the drill performs well when you put it into practice! There is no manipulation of the clubface taking place (here or in the rock skipping demonstration). I'm simply keeping my trail arm connection intact and allowing it to ride up the swing plane. The arm externally rotates naturally as a result, and without any active rolling motion. As such should return to the ball in the same orientation preset at address unless some ill-advised independent hand/wrist action occurs somewhere prior to impact. While I certainly have other videos that address this topic, a better option would be my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Things You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ It's a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this system as well as an introduction to the instruction style that has thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - enjoying the best golf of their lives: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews Tom

If we actively roll the club into a toe-up position, then we must manufacture some type of precisely timed compensatory move each and every swing if we are to have any hope of consistency. Instead, by keeping the hands and clubface "quiet" we set ourselves up for a reliable, powerful result with no need for contrived manipulations. Here is a recent lesson on the takeaway that may help: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bIGbkmmIqtqXras And while I certainly have other videos that address this topic, a better option would be my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Keys You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ Featuring 17 videos and 45 minutes of detailed lesson and drill content, this is a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this system as well as an introduction to the formal learning method that has countless thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - now enjoying the best golf of their lives: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews Thanks - I'm glad to know that you are enjoying my content!! Yes!! And this is why I do my best to convey multiple “feels” or thoughts throughout the swing wherever possible. We're all different physiologically and psychologically, and something that resonates effectively with one golfer may not necessarily work for another. However, no matter the variety of suggested feels/thoughts offered for a particular element of the swing, they are all directed at getting different golfers to achieve the desired positions, motions, and results. This is why I routinely recommend the online school - saguto.golf - to anyone who truly wishes to experience the joys of consistent, powerful, body-friendly ball striking bliss. It will occur, Matt, but whether or not a golfer needs to actually "feel" that is an individual thing. While it is something I teach as an option, conscious overemphasis or exaggeration of the trail side tilt can lead to becoming too shallow and/or getting "stuck". This can result in big pushes, overdraws, and/or blocks. My new pre-round routine. 👍🏻 But, EVERYONE talks about backswing, impact, the “strike”, as if the swing ends when the clubface gets back to the ball. Even your routine is “take it to the top, then back to the ball” What about AFTER impact? What about RELEASING the club? I have been struggling because I’ve been trying to get that forward shaft lean that EVERYONE talks about (ball first, ground second), and hitting some weak, God-awful shots, short and high right. Today, I focused on pointing the TOE UP … AFTER impact (at 9 o’clock) and I hit some of the best shots I’ve hit so far this year 😳 … compressed, “that sound” 😃 Happy golf ⛳️🏌️‍♂️ SLINGING it (as you’ve said in one of your recent videos). I found I have to focus on AFTER impact way more than the backswing or the downswing. Maybe that’s just today, maybe that’s just me, but … Best golf instructor on KZbin 👍🏻 Keep up the good work, Tom “Life’s too short to play bad golf”

That forward shaft lean at impact should be the result of a properly executed motion and not a contrived or actively manufactured position, Mike. However, it is hyped up so much that folks become convinced that they must force it to happen and thus precisely time it at the millisecond of impact, and generally does not play out well. Nice job figuring out what works well for you. Keep up the great work and enjoy that KFCrispy compression!! 💪💪 Tom

I tried the trail wrist position through impact and started making great contact but pushed everything left ( left handed golfer), your thoughts?
@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf 4 ай бұрын
The answer lies in ball flight laws. Clubface angle relative to target line is the primary influencer of the ball's starting line and face relative to path determines direction and degree of curvature. From there we can then do some reverse engineering to identify and neutralize the cause of a sideways shot. So, in the case of a straight push with good contact, your path is likely properly shallowed and the face is open to the target line and square to the path. This can oftentimes be caused by an improper grip and/or a conscious or subconscious manipulation of the face with the hands at some point during the motion. The Precision Impact that I’ve demonstrated in various lesson videos including this week's episode - kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y5LNan-iecR_o8U - is an excellent training aid that will help you to straighten out your ball flight. I highly recommend it. Tom, I would like to see what you see at setup. If you had a go-pro on your head. Like, do you see your toes behind your hands or in front and where is the ball with say a 9 iron. What does the shaft lean look like from your eyes?
@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf 7 ай бұрын
Well, let me first share some setup keys for this swing system with you: We should feel evenly balanced between heel and toe in both feet. This balance is achieved by first setting our knees over the toes (or at least over the toe end of our shoelaces) to activate the ground connection, and then pushing our butt out to incline the hips and chest so that a relationship with the ball is established. The arms hang down naturally from the shoulders with all clubs except the driver, for which we push them out an inch or so to encourage more of the around-the-body motion needed for that lengthy shaft. We address the ball stacked shoulders over hips over knees with our weight balanced 50/50. We then simply bump our hips one inch towards the target while keeping everything else in place. This presets a little more weight forward while retaining the stacked relationship. Both feet are flared outward approximately 10-20 degrees, with the knees similarly angled outward. This orientation facilitates a stress-free, flowing motion back and through, resulting in a very body-friendly, consistent, powerful swing. As for ball position, while this system affords you some leeway, in general once my students and members show some level of proficiency with the swing I suggest that they migrate to a stock ball position that is in the middle of the stance for short irons, two balls inside the lead heel for middle irons, and creeping more forward for the longer clubs - the farthest forward being even with the inside of the lead heel for the driver (with the stance width increasing as we move from shorter to longer clubs). Now, having shared all that, would you like to learn some key aspects of the swing I teach in a more structured manner? As a reminder, Jeremiah, a significant percentage of my students and online school members are in their 60's, 70's, and 80's - i.e.: a smorgasbord of chronic ailments, physical limitations, back/shoulder/knee/hip pain, and joint replacements - and they are overwhelmingly elated to experience the dramatic pain-free game improvement, seemingly effortless power, and resulting enjoyment that this swing affords them. *_It all begins with a proper setup which provides for a free-flowing motion._* Upon that good foundation a repeatable swing which produces consistently crispy impact can be built. For example, the outward flaring of both feet 10-20 degrees in our setup facilitates the proper amount of body-friendly, free-flowing hip turn back and through. This is a major power move that also keeps the club traveling on the correct path. If you were to square your feet so that they were perpendicular to the target line, then your hips would be impeded from turning sufficiently in the backswing (which would then inhibit the shoulders from executing a full and effortless turn), and from releasing properly in the downswing to propel the club through the zone. If we can achieve just 45 degrees of inclined hip turn - which most folks can with this setup - then all we need is another 45 degrees of shoulder turn for a full 90-degree turn! Tom

Back in the day I used to do that "coming over the top" movement and hit wicked slices. Then I learned I was supposed to hit (and that's what I was doing, hitting) inside out. Completely cured the slice but I then went through a period of hitting wicked hooks. Still, that was better. I could aim to the right of the target and the ball would roll a long way after it landed.

Hi Chris, My own personal "feels" are not relevant to you because they are unique to me. 😎 Beyond that, they do change quite regularly as I'm always thinking about new possibilities for my lesson content. (Although as long as my setup is good and I've pre-established the necessary connections, I can trust that no matter my "trigger du jour", it's going to get me moving properly into the takeaway and backswing.) I am trying the stack and tilt after a 20 year layoff from golf but my old flipping swing is getting in the way. I am getting the club in the slot but closing the clubface at the last minute and hitting everything left. Hard to eliminate old habits

Pro's always talked about finding something that brought their swing back and they were now playing much better. Well, Tom made a video I think recently where he talked about the importance of pulling that lead leg back, what many instructors call firing your hips. Well, firing hips is fine but Tom this one thing you talked about changed everything. By initiating the downswing by pulling (or firing) that lead-leg back I got both my timing and speed back. As an added bonus the centrifugal force of creating that additional speed helps in squaring the club without any additional manipulation. One of my friends at the range said, you look like Rory McIlroy, hitting these crisp shots every time. I feel there is even more speed that I can apply. Oh...BTW... I'm 73 years young and only 5'7" in stature.

That is *OUTSTANDING* - I'm very glad to know that the hip lesson you referenced clicked with you; excellent job incorporating it into your swing and putting it into play!! 💪💪 Thanks so much for sharing your improvement, keep up the great work, and keep those Rory comparisons coming!! Tom PS: If you've not already joined, have you considered enrolling in the online school and taking your learning - and your game - to the next level? That's where - in addition to detailed lessons and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step, position-by-position from setup to finish - you'll find diagnostic tools for identifying/resolving swing and ball flight issues when they arise, plus advanced level instruction, and much more. At just $14.99/month or $149.99 per year the value in terms of what you get for that price point is beyond comprehension, and based on proven results it represents by far the best golf instruction deal on the planet.

Does this work with the driver?
@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf 7 ай бұрын
Yes - this also applies to the driver. In fact, it is essentially the same swing with every club; just some minor setup differences and naturally occurring shaft plane changes as we graduate up in club length from short irons to woods. To demonstrate, you'll find towards the end of this episode some practice range footage of me hitting a 7 iron, 3 wood, and driver: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pWHbpJaDrrNmrJo Here is a link to my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Things You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker” where you can learn some aspects of the system I teach in a more structured manner: go.saguto.golf/ This will provide a nice foundational understanding of the swing keys that will ultimately get you mashing the ball through your entire bag. IDK if you have any vids yet in the bank where you body cam from start to finish? Explain the whole process from picking your target, intermediate point, walking up to the ball and how you setup.

@@SagutoGolf Get to it! haha! I'm killin it right now in MN. par is 34. Shot a 35 and a 37 yesterday. Mosquitoes were BAD. Missed 1 green and it was a par 3. Kinda pulled it. Chipped up easy though for a quick par. All the approaches on green...ever since I stopped going for the damn flag, I've been insanely consistent. THE CONE EFFECT bb
