Hey Tom! Your concepts have really helped my golf game. You’ve been preaching about moving the shoulders in several videos and it helps tremendously. My only issue was that I still was not doing it correctly. In my head I was turning them but after seeing my swing in a mirror I noticed that wasn’t really the case. So I actually started focusing on turning my chest more and bingo! My shoulders began rotating as you described. Just thought this comment might help other players out there to get the concept easier. Keep sending out these great lessons!

Yes, one of the biggest misnomers in golf is that the right knee should face straight in front, at the top of the backswing. The whole of the leg has to rotate to the right in the backswing, for a player to turn freely, just as you demonstrate here. But, it has become so ingrained on the game's psyche that a player must hold the position of their right leg, that they can't turn their hips. Maybe it all goes back to the drawing in Five Lessons of Hogan holding a club to the side of his right leg. But, he didn't position his right leg in that way when he hit the ball. And, one other thing in the book that is especially harmful is his idea of getting into the address position, by leaning from the top. Recently, I was at an international event and it was very noticeable that one of the swing coaches had a severely twisted spine. He was a very promising player when he was young; and, i could not believe how he had come to have such a severe scoliosis. Then, recently, I played with someone who had gone to him for lessons, who told me that he'd told him lean from the top, holding his back straight, to get into the address position; and, it suddenly dawned on me how the swing coach had come to have such a twist in his spine. When a player leans from the top the pelvis is trapped; and, they then can only turn with their top half. A player should be able to position their arms by their side and turn 90 degrees without actively turning their body or shoulders. And, you can't do that when you lean from the top to get into the address position. The base of the neck has to push back to lower the body into the address position. And, this actually stretches the spine out, increasing mobility.

@DacielDeMedeiros - I sincerely appreciate your kind words, and I am very glad to know that you are benefiting from my instruction content and enjoying my teaching style!! Yes - the feel you are referring to is certainly one that I have used and taught. For example, there is a video in my channel's archives that was all about pointing the shirt buttons to the sky, which is really all about turning the chest as you describe. @mplunky1 - These general setup keys for the swing system I teach should hold the answer to your question: We should feel evenly balanced between heel and toe in both feet. This balance is achieved by first setting our knees over the toes (or at least over the toe end of our shoelaces) to activate the ground connection, and then pushing our butt out to incline the hips and chest so that a relationship with the ball is established. The arms hang down naturally from the shoulders with all clubs except the driver, for which we push them out an inch or so to encourage more of the around-the-body motion needed for that lengthy shaft. We address the ball stacked shoulders over hips over knees with our weight balanced 50/50. We then simply bump our hips one inch towards the target while keeping everything else in place. This presets a little more weight forward - generally 55/45 for the short and mid irons, 60/40 for the longer clubs - while retaining the stacked relationship. Both feet are flared outward approximately 10-20 degrees, with the knees similarly angled outward. This orientation facilitates a stress-free, flowing motion back and through, resulting in a very body-friendly, consistent, powerful swing. TS

I played today with this lesson running in my mind. This was on the links at Royal Cinque Ports GC in Kent. My ball striking was probably my all time best. This was especially the case from every tee box on the par 4s and 5s. I used 3 wood and every shot was straight , penetrating and long ! Thanks Tom Ps I recommend your coaching to anyone that cares to listen.

I cannot express how happy I am that I have discovered your coaching videos. After injuring my left elbow and shoulder in an accident I have had to completely rebuild my game as a right hander - having been a LH golfer all my life. This has been incredibly difficult and to be honest much of the online golf content has not served me well, it being over complicated and based on the false premise that we are all athletes like Rory or Bryson. Your coaching resonates so well with me as I have always believed that when in doubt add simplicity. Your driver instruction is a fine example as I have greatly improved my dispersion and added over 40 m of carry! I am now averaging mid 80s per round and feel I have the potential to go into the 70s. Not bad at 64 years of age! Thank you again. I am very grateful. Mark. Oxford. UK.

i really dont understd WHY you switched fr LF to RT handed golf swing, as a LF handed, its your RT shoulder arm that leads , I separated my LF shoulder grade 3 and as a RT handed golfer, it severely affected my ball striking, especially my irons, I'm unable to hit well, so now with Tom's swing, I'm making much better contact with POWER, I'm not hitting down on the ball, I'm hitting through it. Like you, the Saguto swing resonates immensely with me

After focussing to have a correct setup and arm (s) position I just let the shoulders do there thing whit confidence. Target is now building it in to my driver swing.

That is AWESOME, Marc, and congrats on a fabulous round!! I’m very glad to know that my instruction is resonating with you; excellent job incorporating it into your swing and putting it into play. Oftentimes when golfers are hitting everything well except for the driver it can be attributed to one of the following: 1) They are not setting their weight forward correctly and as a result are tilting their spine towards the target. We should address the ball stacked shoulders over hips over knees with our weight balanced 50/50. We then simply bump our hips one inch towards the target while keeping everything else in place. This presets a little more weight forward while retaining the stacked relationship. 2) Their hips are not continuing their lateral targetward action through impact. This is common with the longer clubs as the wider stance means that the hips have a greater distance to travel, thereby posing an increased risk of premature spinout. If the hips stop moving laterally towards the target on the downswing - and they should move targetward naturally if we allow them to - then their rotation takes over, thereby stalling the necessary forward weight loading (we should be 80/20 forward halfway down, 90/10 at impact, and 95/5 in the finish), changing the low point and rerouting the club into a steeper angle of attack (AoA). This can produce a variety of undesirable results including fat and thin contact, topped shots and popups, straight pulls, and “banana” slices. Of great importance is keeping your upper torso/head in place (in other words, not moving towards the target from a face-on view) during the downswing and through impact. This preserves the swing center and the desired shallow AoA. 3) They are not allowing the length of the club to dictate the backswing path and are getting too steep as a result. The shaft of the driver is considerably longer than the other clubs and thus requires more of an around the body backswing as established by the shaft plane at address. It may "feel" flat as they take it back along the shaft plane for the first few feet, but as long as they maintain the "weight forward, shoulder down, and hands in" components while allowing the club to work around them, it should put them in the proper position at the top so they can attack the ball from the inside. (A good feel for that lead shoulder is "down and in, under the chin".) 4) Many believe - and some even teach - that we must try to "hit up on the ball" with the driver. However, consider that in our stock setup with the driver the hands are even with the inside of the lead thigh (as they are with all clubs when playing a standard shot) and our ball position is even with the inside of the heel of the lead foot. This presets a very slight degree of forward shaft lean with the driver. Beyond that, the ball is behind the zero-point of the swing (which is even with the lead shoulder), meaning that without any contrived manipulations the club will still be on its descent - albeit very close to flat - at impact. So, perhaps with the exception of folks with slower swing speeds - or those Long Drive participants teeing it extra high and hitting maybe 1-2 balls out of 10 onto a 60-yard wide "fairway" - in general the path is still ever so slightly down. In fact, the PGA Tour average with the driver is actually minus (e.g.: downward) 1.5 degrees - nearly level - and it should feel level - but slightly down nonetheless. (Here is an article on Ping’s website addressing this topic - ping.com/en-us/blogs/proving-grounds/optimal-launch-and-spin#:~:text=According%20to%20Trackman%2C%20PGA%20Tour,85%25%20ball%2Dflight%20laws ) By the way, if you've not already joined, have you considered enrolling in the online school and taking your learning - and your game - to the next level? Tom I have been adapting your swing. Yesterday I went to the driving range. After decades of shifting my weight. I have been improving to almost 50% of my shots. I used to pick the ball. No divots. But I'm hitting more of my shots with a divot. And being 65. After I hit a good shot. I hurry my down swing, usually a bad shot. I'm learning to move my body more. And trying to just be smooth. I really appreciate help and a lot of your videos.😁

Fantastic! I’m very glad to know that my instruction is resonating with you; excellent job incorporating it into your swing and putting it into play! With regard to your driver issues, is essentially the same swing with every club; just some minor setup differences and naturally occurring shaft plane changes as we graduate up in club length from short irons to woods. To demonstrate, you'll find towards the end of this episode some practice range footage of me hitting a 7 iron, 3 wood, and driver: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pWHbpJaDrrNmrJo And here is a recent lesson video in which I really exaggerated the weight-forward component with the driver: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hpuydKuCjKZ-jZY Oftentimes when golfers are hitting everything well except for the driver it can be attributed to one of the following: 1) They are not setting their weight forward correctly and as a result are tilting their spine towards the target. I sincerely appreciate your kind words, and I'm very glad to know that my instruction content and teaching style are resonating with you!! As I just shared with another golfer fighting a very similar issue, be patient with your swing transformation process! Those "ghosts of swings past" are stubborn and don't give up without a fight! Ideally we want to get to the point where we can simply "allow" the hand/wrist/arm actions to happen without forcing anything. In other words, if we have a secure grip, pre-establish the connections properly in the setup, and have a foundational base that facilitates a full centered turn without restriction, then once we've ingrained the correct positions through sequential drilling and repetition we can entrust the motion to the big muscles and allow the arms, wrists, hands, and club to simply go along for the ride and respond accordingly as if on autopilot. The power accumulators - including the proper arm, wrist, and hand action - will then naturally load and fire with no contrived manipulations or precise timing necessary, thereby returning the face to the position pre-established at address. We are minimizing variables and building a ball striking machine, and the golfer will find that as trust builds in the shoulders will rotate freely and the "machine" will then be optimized. It's called "giving up control to gain control", and it's the formula for consistently blissful ball striking and seemingly effortless power. Thanks so much for your support in sharing your great progress and keep up the fantastic work!! 💪💪 Tom Saguto, PGA PS: By the way, since my channel's content is performing well for you, I am confident that you will also benefit from my newly updated FREE mini course “The Top 3 Keys You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ Featuring 17 videos and 45 minutes of detailed lesson and drill content, this is a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this system as well as an introduction to the formal learning method that has countless thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - now enjoying the best golf of their lives: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews

Reset my driver to standard loft moved weight to neutral. Balls had a slight fade and were going 240-255. I’m a big guy and all I can say is thank you. We adjust drivers to make up for our bad swing. 3 wood 220 3 hybrid 200. I thought it was a fluke. Played 9 holes. I have to redo iron yardages now. Ball is going longer and straighter. THANK YOU!

I'm getting there! Playing yesterday, using what I've learned watching you (and taking your free course), I've been hitting long and straight or maybe a baby draw. My only issue is wanting to hit hard and leaving the face open and pushing right. Once I convince myself not to try to slash at it, I'll be in business!

*OUTSTANDING!!* I’m very glad to know that this lesson resonated with you; excellent job incorporating it into your swing and putting it into play. Be patient with the process. 💪💪 Tom PS: Now that you have worked through the mini course, have you considered enrolling in the online school and taking your learning - and your game - to the next level? That's where - in addition to detailed lessons and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step, position-by-position from setup to finish - you'll find diagnostic tools for identifying/resolving swing and ball flight issues when they arise, plus advanced level instruction, and much more. Thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result, and their unsolicited testimonials tell the story quite well: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews. Tom my game is the best it’s ever been thanks to you. As a high handicap golfer. I never understood the ‘feel’ or mechanics of how to fire the downswing. Until I saw you talk about firing the right shoulder thru. Changed my game so much to the better. Thanks 🙏. One question. I’m lately struggling with taking much too big divots. Today on the range I was taking up way too much ground. My backswing is more shallow than steep. Any ideas??? And again. Thank you
@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf 4 ай бұрын
OUTSTANDING! I’m very glad to know that my instruction is resonating with you, Mark; excellent job incorporating it into your swing and putting it into play. Since your contact is good, then the "feel" you likely need to ingrain is tucking the butt under the hips through the zone, which causes the belt buckle to raise up a few inches from pre- to post-impact. It can also be likened to a high jumper pushing off his or her lead leg as they propel themselves upward and over the bar. This releases the spine from flexion to extension - a very powerful move - whilst releasing the hips from their downward tilt toward the ball. This will help to prevent those steep crashes and resulting divot craters. And while I certainly have content that addresses this issue, a more structured option would be my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Keys You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ Featuring 17 videos and 45 minutes of detailed lesson and drill content, this is a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this system as well as an introduction to the formal learning method that has countless thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - now enjoying the best golf of their lives: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews Thanks so much for your support in sharing your improvement and keep up the great work!! 💪💪 Tom Saguto, PGA

Hi Tom, Tried to follow your instructions by turning my shoulders with the hips following but still was hitting the ground before the ball. Played in comp for seniors par 71 shot5 shhh 137. When I got home I thought , thinkturn the hipsand your shoulders and found I was mostly hitting the ball, then the turf. Iam 85 with bad back and sciatica for past 14 years. Have been given hcp of 44. Bit different as I used to be 18hcp.Determined to cut hcp for next year, Iam in the UK. Blooming cold today. Enjoy your tips and have been watching your mini course. Roy
@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf 4 ай бұрын
Hi Roy, Consider the following possibilities: 1) Ball position is too far forward, 2) Hands are too far back at address (they should be in line with the inside of your lead thigh), 3) The swing center and low point are drifting backwards at some point during the motion, 4) The downswing is steep and/or the path is out-to-in, 5) Conversely, the path is too shallow, 6) Early extension of the trail arm during the downswing (also known as "casting"), 7) Flipping/scooping through the zone, 8) Loss of relationship with the ball (shoulder angle flattening, loss of tilt). Though not an exhaustive list, those are the primary causes of fats, thins, and tops. By the way, always begin with the setup - in this case the first two possibilities - prior to diving into a swing intervention. By the way, you may be interested to know that a significant percentage of my online school members are in their 60's, 70's, and 80's - i.e.: a smorgasbord of chronic ailments, physical limitations, back/shoulder/knee/hip pain, arthritis, and joint replacements - and they are overwhelmingly elated to experience the dramatic pain-free game improvement, seemingly effortless power, and resulting enjoyment that this swing affords them. It all begins with a proper setup which provides for a free-flowing motion. Upon that good foundation a repeatable swing which produces consistently crispy impact can be built. For example, the outward flaring of both feet 10-20 degrees in our setup facilitates the proper amount of body-friendly, free-flowing hip turn back and through. This is a major power source, and it also keeps the club traveling on the correct path. If you were to square your feet so that they were perpendicular to the target line, then your hips would be impeded from turning sufficiently in the backswing (which would then inhibit the shoulders from executing a full and effortless turn), and from releasing properly in the downswing to propel the club through the zone. Restricting this action can cause a variety of path issues and/or also place strain on the lower back, lead knee, and the hip joints as the hips will "want" to move laterally and turn through into the finish but will be fighting the body in the process. Have you looked into the comprehensive, sequential learning platform of the online school yet? That's where - among many other courses and lessons covering various aspects of the game - you will find very detailed instruction and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step, position-by-position from setup to finish. The value in terms of what you get for the low price point is beyond comprehension, and based on proven results it represents by far the best golf instruction deal on the planet. You don't need the flexibility of a Romanian gymnast - or even of this far less pliable golf instructor - to execute this swing, experience great ball striking, and reclaim - or even exceed - yardages from years past. I hope you'll give the school some thought. Thanks for your message and stay warm up there! Tom Saguto, PGA

I stick 2 this now AND will solve the driver 2 eventually! Cheers mate!

Hi Tom. Sorry if this is a little long but need some context. I’m 56 started golfing in my mid 20s. When I started couldn’t afford lessons and there was no you tube. Recently in the last year went on you tube golf instruction binge. I can tell you after 100s of videos. Your teaching and stack and tilt unlocked the golden keys to golf. I revamped my swing to the moe Norman single plane and that helped a lot but stack and tilt opened the floodgates to striping the ball strait. I told you in an earlier message I was matching or out driving my 23 year old son. I’ve dropped over 20 to 25 strokes averaging around 85 to 90. One question one of your videos may mention this but I haven’t seen it. In your set up with irons should your hands be a little lower than compared to single plane type? I notice with longer irons 4 and 5 I tend to thin mostly sometimes fat them and they mostly leak to the right unless I really drop my hands lower. You are the revealer of the golf swing secrets. Thanks for your teaching.
@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf 4 ай бұрын
Yes - I do recall responding to your message from the other day about outdriving your son, Michael! While the Stack and Tilt system I teach shares a one plane feature, it is definitely different from the "single plane" version patterned after Mr. Norman's swing. For example, the straight-line relationship of the arms and club shaft from the DTL view that you referenced is a trademark of Mr. Norman's setup that one will not generally find in S&T instruction, where we would instead typically prescribe having the butt end of the handle pointing somewhere between the top of the pants zipper and the belt buckle at address. However, there are also some definite shared features - particularly with regard to the very centered, connected, weight-forward nature of both methods. Stack and Tilt is a complete golf swing system based on data from the best golf ball strikers - and Moe Norman would certainly be included among them. The S&T folks determined from this study of these ball striking legends that they all had 3 things in common (the 3 main golf fundamentals): 1. Hit the ground in the same spot every time (consistent crispy contact) 2. Have enough length to play the golf course well (power) 3. Be able to have a predictable curve (accuracy). A player MUST be able to do those 3 things to be good at golf, and Mr. Norman certainly did! With regard to receiving swing information from different sources, please be careful in navigating the muddied, overly-complicated, oft-conflicting realm of golf instruction. It's best to commit to a system - whether it be this body-friendly, powerful, consistent, low-maintenance method or another - put your blinders on, and stick to it. And if it is the system I teach, then please strongly consider enrolling in the online school and taking your learning - and your game - to the next level. That's where - in addition to detailed lessons and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step, position-by-position from setup to finish - you'll find diagnostic tools for identifying/resolving swing and ball flight issues when they arise, plus advanced level courses, and much more. saguto.golf The value in terms of what you get for the low price point is beyond comprehension, and based on proven results it represents by far the best golf instruction deal on the planet. And you are certainly free to swing upright like Mr. Nicklaus if you so desire. My job is to inform, not to convince....😎 Just remember - the swing is a tilted circle (or arc, if we wish to get technical), the circumference of which extends from the ball to above and behind our shoulders. As such, if we are going to remain on that circle/arc it requires the hands and club to take a slightly inward path - not a disconnected handsy snatch or roll to the inside - just a natural tracing of the outer rim or circumference. The feeling of "straight back" can easily pull the golfer off of that preestablished geometry right from the start, and from there precise compensatory actions are necessary if there is any hope of returning the clubface to the ball on the proper path time after time. So rather than have to rely on "dropping it in the slot" the exact amount each and every swing, why not just put in the slot from the start and just keep it there?! We create depth in this swing, and that enables us to fully engage the shoulders and harness the tremendous power of swinging on an inclined arc courtesy of the seemingly effortless force known as "angular momentum" - where physics and geometry collide. Watch any Tour event on TV and you'll see a significant number of players executing these motions, a fact corroborated by just how many of them have their lead arms on or very close to their tilted shoulder planes, and their hands deep behind their trail shoulder at the top. And while I certainly have several videos that address this topic, a more structured option would be my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Keys You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ Featuring 17 videos and 45 minutes of detailed lesson and drill content, this is a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this system as well as an introduction to the formal learning method that has countless thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - now enjoying the best golf of their lives: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews Tom Saguto, PGA

Found out about this myself some days ago on The range. About 100 shots and most was good, beeing me and a 42 Hcp starting this year. Worked good on driver and wood! Still having some trouble with irons, many of my shots go a little left, wich would leave me in The rough. Maybe my irons Are too short for me, Im 6,2 and have standard Clubs.

Hi Tom can you do a proactive episode/short on avoiding injuries 🙏? I've been gaming S&T /weight forward happily for years including following your awesome channel. But when I started playing more frequently I was leaning the shaft more and more (you know how addictive it gets - getting more distance with the same club and more lean). I was instead catching more ground and building up to a bad golf elbow injury. It's taken me 8 months to get over it and I think someone like you could amplify the message about moderate shaft lean versus too much. Much thanks !
@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf 4 ай бұрын
Because Stack and Tilt is a proven body-friendly swing system, all of my instruction is supportive of that! Consider that the stock S&T ball position is in the middle of the stance for short irons, two balls inside the lead heel for middle irons, and creeping more forward for the longer clubs - the farthest forward being even with the inside of the lead heel for the driver (with the stance width increasing as we move from shorter to longer clubs), while hand position, remains consistent - even with the inside of your lead thigh - no matter which club you are hitting. Additionally, the lead arm and club shaft should form a straight line from the face-on view, giving your setup a lowercase "y" look and the proper amount of shaft lean. Any more forward lean beyond that at address can be detrimental to both shot shape and impact quality. While there is certainly content on my channel that addresses this topic, a more structured option would be my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Keys You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ Featuring 17 videos and 45 minutes of detailed lesson and drill content, this is a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this system as well as an introduction to the formal learning method that has countless thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - now enjoying the best golf of their lives: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews No more pain; just gain!! 😎 Tom Saguto, PGA

I also got lower back pain when trying the modern swing, but now I let my hips turn with my shoulders, so there's no twist happening to my spine. Plus, with fuller swings like the driver, I let the follow through (after hitting the ball) turn my body as much as it wants, so that often my back ends up facing where the ball was teed. Sort of an extreme Scotty Scheffler, lol. Takes the strain off your back.

I sincerely appreciate your kind words, Toni, and I'm very glad to know that my instruction content and teaching style are resonating with you! The swing system I teach is a proven body-friendly method. I can vouch for that through my own personal experience as a golfer who previously experienced back pain, and It is further validated by the fact that a significant percentage of my students and online school members are in their 60's, 70's, and 80's - i.e.: a smorgasbord of chronic ailments, physical limitations, back/shoulder/knee/hip pain, and joint replacements - and they are overwhelmingly elated to experience the dramatic pain-free game improvement, seemingly effortless power, and resulting enjoyment that this swing affords them. *_It all begins with a proper setup which provides for a free-flowing motion._* Upon that good foundation a repeatable swing which produces consistently crispy impact can be built. For a really good starting point here is a link to my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Things You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker": go.saguto.golf/ Featuring 17 videos and 45 minutes of detailed lesson and drill content, this is a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this system as well as an introduction to the formal learning method that has countless thousands of men and women from across the globe spanning all age ranges and experience levels enjoying the best golf of their lives: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews You don't need the flexibility of a Romanian gymnast - or even of this far less pliable golf instructor - to execute this swing, experience great ball striking. Ideally we should simply "allow" the hand/wrist/arm actions to happen without forcing anything. This in and of itself will keep the face square. We are minimizing variables - including those that would change the face angle -and building a ball striking machine, and the golfer will find that as trust builds in the shoulders will rotate freely and the "machine" will then be optimized. It's called "giving up control to gain control", and it's the formula for consistently blissful ball striking and seemingly effortless power. Your shanks can be the result of a variety of actions: 1) You may be too steep on the downswing and thereby exposing the hosel to the ball; 2) Conversely, your downswing path may be too in to out; 3) You may be rolling the face open or snatching the club inside with the hands in the takeaway; 4) Your wrists may not be hinging properly (which is often the case when a golfer tries to manufacture or force the hinge rather than just allowing it to happen); 5) You are setting up with the ball positioned at the heel of the club; 6) You are losing your pre-established relationship with the ball (i.e.: a deficiency in the Tilt component); 7) You are not completing your shoulder turn in the backswing; 8) More... What I'm getting at is that there are a number of potential causes, and without actually seeing your swing it's impossible for me to identify the culprit behind those hosel rockets. FYI, there are entire sections of my online school dedicated to diagnosing and resolving common swing, contact, and ball flight issues. Have you looked into it yet? That's where - among many other courses and lessons covering various aspects of the game - you will find very detailed instruction and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step, position-by-position from setup to finish. Can you make a video on this?

It may well be that there is some breakdown of the arm structure through the zone as you try to focus on achieving the outcome of this drill. If we maintain the critical upper arm connection points and keep that structure intact, then the result will take us to your preferred finishing point. In other words, it simply may be a matter of execution, or perhaps even that this particular drill does not apply to you! I do my best to convey multiple “feels” or thoughts throughout the swing wherever possible. We're all different physiologically and psychologically, and something that resonates effectively with one golfer may not necessarily work for another. As such, it is important to understand that the lessons on this channel - while fully aligned with the swing method I teach - address a variety of topics, issues, feels, and/or common flaws/fixes from one episode to the next. They are certainly not intended to be taken as a comprehensive, step-by-step, position-by-position learning platform like the structured curriculum of my online school, which I strongly recommend to anyone who truly wishes to get on the proper path towards owning this swing as it will make for a far more efficient and enjoyable learning process rather than haphazardly trying to piece things together through my KZbin content. The lessons and drills provide the guidelines and set the boundaries, while allowing ample leeway for each individual golfer to infuse and exercise their own uniqueness. Having said that, while I certainly have other content that addresses your issue, a more structured option would be my newly updated FREE mini course “The Top 3 Keys You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ Featuring 17 videos and 45 minutes of detailed lesson and drill content, this is a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this system as well as an introduction to the formal learning method that has countless thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - now enjoying the best golf of their lives: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews Thanks, Tom

Tom please when is the maximum fire in the downswing? It seems to me from the video that starts at 10-9 o’clock. ?

@SagutoGolf 4 ай бұрын
I'm not exactly clear on what you mean by "maximum fire", but the trail arm begins to unload from its folded condition at approximately the point you are referring to, with the clubhead accelerating through the zone and achieving maximum velocity just past impact when both arms are fully straightened. Ideally this should all occur as if on autopilot. In other words, if we have a secure grip, pre-establish the connections properly in the setup, and have a foundational base that facilitates a full centered turn without restriction, then once we've ingrained the correct positions through sequential drilling and repetition we can entrust the motion to the big muscles and allow the arms, wrists, hands, and club to simply go along for the ride and respond accordingly. Okay Crispy Tom, I have passive hands , Setup with 30 degrees tilt , weight 60/ 70 on the left side, taking the shoulders back, right cheek moving towards target , right leg straightens, I am thinking left shoulder under the chin and downswing right shoulder under the chin. My whole process is to not allow the right shoulder to slow down or stop, keep it moving . My problem is instead of Crispy divots, I am seeing mostly level or thin shots. Just a bit Irritating . What could be the cause ? I have the Precision impact trainer , my wrists goes into the full right bend and stays there like it should.. Can this be a right shoulder not having enough tilt on the downswing ? Been seeing a lot of good , just the thins mints , need those crispy divots . :) Cheers

Hi Chuck, Consider the following possibilities: 1) Ball position is too far forward, 2) Hands are too far back at address (they should be in line with the inside of your lead thigh), 3) The swing center and low point are drifting backwards at some point during the motion (face-on video will help you determine this), 4) The downswing is steep and/or the path is out-to-in, 5) Conversely, the path is too shallow, 6) Early extension of the trail arm during the downswing (also known as "casting"), 7) Flipping/scooping through the zone, 8) Loss of relationship with the ball (shoulder angle flattening, loss of tilt). Though not an exhaustive list, those are the primary causes of fats, thins, and tops. By the way, always begin with the setup - in this case the first two possibilities - prior to diving into a swing intervention. As for the elbows, "together" means establishing a structured relationship with the arms at address, and then retaining that relationship throughout the motion. There is no sense of "bear hugging" or tension. Just try to keep the elbows the same distance apart from setup to finish. So the first step is the hip back?
@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf 4 ай бұрын
Not necessarily, Greg. We just need to create a foundation that allows our hips to react properly and fully. While there is certainly content on my channel that addresses this topic, a more structured option would be my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Keys You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ Featuring 17 videos and 45 minutes of detailed lesson and drill content, this is a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this system as well as an introduction to the formal learning method that has countless thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - now enjoying the best golf of their lives: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews Tom

You are not really missing anything. We simply need to correctly engage the hips in order to allow the shoulders to execute a full turn. If you were to square your feet so that they were perpendicular to the target line, then your hips would be impeded from turning sufficiently in the backswing (which would then inhibit the shoulders from executing a full and effortless turn), and from releasing properly in the downswing to propel the club through the zone. So, it looks like with this method you're not advocating the release of the club? It seems like more of a really big chip shot? Looks like you're accelerating through the ball rather than trying to apply the brakes and allowing the the clubhead a free swing from the momentum. Which way hits it farther???

Good question. I have recently figured out there are different types of releases. No youtuber explains that though.
@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf 4 ай бұрын
I have addressed this in numerous videos. With regard to this misguided notion that we need to affect some type of active hand-rolling “release", given the inability of most folks to spend sufficient time at the range to lock in the required exactness of such an action this misguided thought has led countless golfers astray. It's not something that even the vast majority of pros are trying to consciously manufacture during the split second that the clubhead is traveling a distance of approximately 6' from parallel to parallel at speeds in excess of 100 mph. The forearms will naturally "trade places" from pre- to post-impact, but this should not be construed as a contrived move (although many a casual observer has gone down that rabbit hole). There really ought not be any active manipulation of the hands through the zone and attempts to precisely time any such rolling or flipping - which does nothing for swing speed - have relegated many an amateur to the vast abyss of inconsistency and frustration. Ideally we should simply "allow" the hand/wrist/arm actions to happen without forcing anything. @SagutoGolf ok I get that. BUT it didn't answer my question. My question was isn't there an inherit difference in the attempt to apply the brakes at the ball, as opposed to what you described in the video, as seeming to accelerate through the ball? The former allowing the clubhead momentum to take over, rather than trying to keep PRESSURE on the clubhead. These two ideas are fundamental conflicting differences in physics. While both may work, which way let's the same person hit it farther??? That was the question I was attempting to ask.

Golf is obviously a very difficult sport, Rick. However, if we can simplify the swing so as not to rely on timing, exceptional hand-eye coordination, and/or micromanaging "positions" - and we can - then we will be able to achieve consistently great results without having to continuously work so hard. You say swing to the target. I would assume the target is at 12 O’clock but I’ve been told and heard to swing to 1 o’clock. Is that bad information?
@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf 22 күн бұрын
It's not bad information. Consider that the zero-point of the swing is even with the lead shoulder/armpit from a face-on view. If we swing on a centered arc, then the path will be straight at the target at this point. If the ball position is behind the zero-point, then the arc will have the path tracking from in to out - or more towards one o'clock, as you say - without any contrived effort, as that should be the natural geometry of a centered motion. Consider the following possibilities: 1) Ball position is too far forward, 2) Hands are too far back at address (they should be in line with the inside of your lead thigh), 3) The swing center and low point are drifting backwards at some point during the motion (face-on video will help you determine this), 4) The downswing is steep and/or the path is out-to-in, 5) Conversely, the path is too shallow, 6) Early extension of the trail arm during the downswing (also known as "casting"), 7) Flipping/scooping through the zone, 8) Loss of relationship with the ball (shoulder angle flattening, loss of tilt). Though not an exhaustive list, those are the primary causes of fats, thins, and tops. By the way, always begin with the setup - in this case the first two possibilities - prior to diving into a swing intervention. And while there are certainly videos on my channel that address these various issues, a more structured option would be my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Keys You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ Featuring 17 videos and 45 minutes of detailed lesson and drill content, this is a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this system as well as an introduction to the formal learning method that has countless thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - now enjoying the best golf of their lives: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews Tom Saguto, PGA

You may be surprised as to just how much range of motion you actually have, Bill!! I say this with confidence because a significant percentage of my online school members are in their 60's, 70's, and 80's - i.e.: a smorgasbord of chronic ailments, physical limitations, back/shoulder/knee/hip pain, arthritis, and joint replacements - and they are overwhelmingly elated to experience the dramatic pain-free game improvement, seemingly effortless power, and resulting enjoyment that this swing affords them. Tom Saguto, PGA
