I would highly recommend putting tubes in with some sort of cloth. The oil from your fingers could potentially have an affect on the tube in a negative way. How ever I dont have evidence to back that up, but going off advice of an amp technician his advice to me was to avoide touching tubes with bare fingers. hopefully this may be helpful for anyone.

Interesting thought. I’m not sure how oils on the glass would affect anything unless they were to pool and run down to the bottom (you’d have to touch them a lot). The sound is all coming from within the tube itself

Hard to know for sure since these are fresh and rich in color versus the old ones when they were fresh. Definite improvement over how they had been sounding up until the old ones died out though! Loving the tone of the Tung Sol tubes so far!

From what I read, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to bias it. I’m happy with the tone I’m getting though and I’m “trusting” that the matched quad I purchased was actually matched properly. I will likely bias next time I replace the tubes in a couples years time though

If I swapped to something other than EL34B’s I’d def have biased. I will report back to this comment if these tubes burn out early from me not doing it 😆
