Stumbled on your channel and this was the first video I saw. Great stuff. My family and I moved to Idaho in 95 and it is such a special piece of America. My dad passed away this year and one of his favorite lines was “I wasn’t born in Idaho but I got here as quickly as I could.” He was the quintessential fly fisherman and outdoorsman and he would have loved this. Thank you.

I love that hike! In the fall, Mid-September, the elk are bugling, stars lift your spirits, its a soul journey of Alpine splendor. With the morning light, you arise, wash in pure cool water, refreshed anew. And in such beauty, you reverently leave no trace of your passing. It’s too sacred a place to do otherwise.

These are some amazing views. Though how did you get those drone shots in the Sawtooths? When I was there last year, drones are not allowed in the Sawtooth Wilderness. Were you able to find a permit or something? I would be interested in how you made it happen. Solid video.
@JonConti4 жыл бұрын
Brian Tolley hey thanks for reaching out about flying drones safely and legally. I try to educate myself about local and federal drone regulations before my trips. On this trip we were in the sawtooth national forest which allows the use of drones. The sawtooth wilderness however does not and you will not see drone footage when I am in a wilderness area. It is illegal to land or take off from the wilderness. I had many conversations about this with officials and built the itinerary around places I could fly. On Alice Toxaway you’ll notice I don’t have drone footage because that’s all in the wilderness.

Heading out there in a couple weeks - what are the rules on fires? Dispersed camping? Any changes with COVID?
@JonConti4 жыл бұрын
@@Jumboduck12 No wildfires in the wilderness, but right now theres a no fire rule pretty much in all of Idaho. We are in the middle of some crazy wildfires so the Sawtooths are covered in smoke and no fires are allowed. Nothing too special about dispersed camping. There are a couple really specific places you can't camp, but you can camp pretty much anywhere. I think the big thing is trying to camp in a spot thats been used. There are TONS of places to camp out there. Pick one of those spots, and try to not create any new ones.

IMO, there is nothing better in this world than being in the forests of Idaho, especially the Sawtooths. I'm a lifelong Idahoan, while growing up, my parents and brothers always went to the Stanley Basin in the summer. My only complaint is the number of people that now come from Sun Valley, ie movie stars. There was a a feeling that I cannot explain. I am now 52, and always feel at peace in an Idaho Forest.

Thanks! I'm sure you know, it's really hard to figure out how to be genuine on camera, or to genuinely tell a story about something as simple as a hike. Instead of just like "here's the trail, it's pretty, you should do it." That was the big breakthrough for me on this one. It wasn't perfect, they never are, but I did feel like I figured something out. Hence the title.

@@JonConti I totally understand trying to find that genuine place to share something you love. But I think that’s the key, loving what you’re creating, and being yourself completely. You did the right thing and did it with respect. This is our home, me and all of my friends here really hate when people “blow up the spot” kind of like what happened with redfish over the last ten years. And as much as I want to keep it a secret it’s impossible, but the sawtooths are a magical place and I really believe its only for people with the right amount of heart and mostly respect for their surroundings, keep it as it is and always has been . Your ending on this video was a proper one and a respectful one for our back yard. There’s still plenty of secret spots left in the back yard that most will never know about. Cheers.

What part was the respect part? Because it sure wasn't flying drones in a Designated Wilderness area.

Freaking love this. Work of art brother. That scene with the lit up tent and the stars was magical. Hope to hike the Sawtooths one day.

Beautiful video! Can’t wait to be there in Sept! What are the two songs in the video? Good songs!

September is a great time of year to visit the Sawtooths. Though no hyperbole, 13 fires started around the area last week so you might have some smoke. Songs are "Branches" by Voyageur and "Marionette" by How Great Were the Robins. I licensed them through Music Bed.

@@JonConti Oh no!! So sad to hear about the fires. :( Thanks for the heads up! And thanks for the songs info.

Hey Jon. Hiked Goat Rock near Smiley Creek today..had to swack and mark my own trail..any knowledge about the area

I've stayed at Smiley and I'm familiar with Goat Lake but I'm not familiar with Goat Rock. What kind of info are you looking for?
@jonathanlockwood88513 жыл бұрын
@@JonConti Hi Jon. Routed the climb just after the Creek at RD 077A..(Off Smiley Creek. The climb had no markers (now does in terms of Cairns, tree leans and ground markers). You can avoid the first Ridge altogether as you have to drop down into the Draw by starting further up the FR Road. Expect 2 open meadow ridge climbs and then the ascent up the rock formation itself. Apparently locals call it Goat Rock. As you have no info on thos particular adventure..I'm not expecting anything but loved your video and wanted to share with you a very cool climb in a remote area of the Sawtooth...would love to figure a way to traverse that ridgeline..you know..without dieing in the process as well

@@JonConti I know the smoke is an issue but I am off Thursday if you would like to check out Goat Rock and maybe we can parse a route across that Ridge towards Mattingly

Born in Idaho Falls.. now living in Boise. You Jon, are exceptional on filming this beautiful state of ours. The video of the lighted tent in the meadow with stars overhead.. stunning. God bless you for sharing this with the world.. but ahhh, we're being invaded now by outsiders. lol Keep up the good work.
@JonConti2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! The Sawtooths aren’t being invaded by outsiders though, that’s a misconception in my opinion. They’re being invaded by ultra wealthy Idahoans buying up land and closing it off to the public. We need more people here helping fight to keep this place public. Look up Michael Boren on google and see what I mean ✌️
