Hey Scotty, why don't you mention the year of the vehicles you review?
@shanepotter4635
@shanepotter4635 10 ай бұрын
I'm never going to understand people buying new vehicles for 70-100k+. People say 'i need something reliable' or 'I want a warranty' like dude you can afford like 10 new engines an 5 transmissions if you buy a used vehicle and you'll still save money vs buying a 70k+ vehicle.
@nuthinbutlove
@nuthinbutlove 10 ай бұрын
@@shanepotter4635 not to mention how much depreciation the vehicles suffer as soon as you drive it off the lot. I've always been under the impression that most people who spend that kind of money on vehicles are able to use them as tax write-offs so in the long-run they basically get luxury for the price of an average car. That and they'll often trade them in every year or two so they don't care about spending money on repairs because basic repairs are covered for however long they own it. Example: A former dentist of mine had a Lexus SUV with the Delorean style rear doors. At the time the government was offering crazy incentives to EV purchasers. He told me between the special incentives from the government and the fact that he registered it as a business vehicle so he got steep tax write-offs he only paid a few thousand a year in total... That's it!

It looks like the sun roof had a leak. You could see the stain on the cover. Even the headlights look they have been replaced. I enjoy watching his videos though. 😊

Still have the wife's 93XJ with the 4.0 and 4x4. What a fantastic Jeep. We have been everywhere in the mid-west. We live in the middle of the desert. That jeep is a tank. It needs new wiring though because last year a mouse family ate the wiring harness and 2 spark plug wires during the winter months. Besides that, never an issue. I adore that little fantastic vehicle. It has literally saved our lives during a small accident. We were attempting to turn off an onramp. Some jack-wagon with a trailer was tailgating us and not paying attention until the last moment. He swerved around us a nearly side-swiped us. The metal mirrors protected us by guiding his truck and his trailer around the cab. gouged the entire side of his truck and his trailer. No major damage to the jeep except the mirror had a bunch of paint and a small dent in the front right fender. The other guy's truck was FUBAR. I drove away. I refuse to sell that Jeep. It has earned its place in the family...

My dad and I both had Jeep Cherokee XJs that had well over 300k and ran perfectly when we sold them. I bought mine for $800 in 2012 and drove it for about 5 years with the only issue was that it needed the crank position sensor needing to be replaced at about 250k. Great engine. Unfortunately people are charging ridiculous prices for XJs now.

Dad had a 4.7 V8 WJ with miles when we sold it. That thing was enjoyable to drive and despite being so high mileage was actually pretty reliable. The 4.7 will generally get the same or better MPG than the 4.0 because it has a five speed transmission. That transmission (the 545RFE) is actually a world more reliable than the transmission that comes behind the 4.0. 16-17 MPG average with the 4.7 PowerTech V8...using a calculator, not the overhead console readout. Just bought a project WJ with the V8 last month that I'm planning to fix up and use for work. You can get them dirt cheap and fix them dirt cheap (especially if you're a mechanic like me) and they will do virtually the same work as a pickup truck that costs 3x more! Great vehicles overall.

I didn't watch the whole vid but I bought a brand new '91 Cherokee Laredo back in '91. I ordered her exactly the way I wanted her. Black, two door, no power locks, no power windows, full time transfer case and Aisin 4 speed auto. We had a 26 year 226,000 Mile relationship before I sold my baby. The 4.0 liter never hiccupped. It was solid. The whole drivetrain still functioned with no issues when I sold it. Started on the dime every time on original Fuel injectors too (think they were Bosch, but not sure). Engine-wise I just replaced the plugs and a few water pumps over its lifetime, and distributor cap and rotor. Mine was the distributor version. It was a sad day when they stopped making that straight 6, 4.0L high output engine !!😢😢😢😢

My daily driver is a Patriot Blue Pearl rust free 2000 Jeep GC Laredo 2-wd 4.0 (WJ). I bought it 2 years ago with only 70k miles and it now has 88k. It runs like a top, rides and drives fantastic getting 17/23 mpg which isn't bad for a large, roomy SUV. Little modifications here and there like a 2" lift and adding Wrangler 5 spoke 17' wheels make it sit better and look sharp. These Jeeps have the very unique combination of being unibody construction with a solid front axle which can be problematic when lifted. I replaced all of the steering and front suspension components including the upper and lower control arms and track bar (adjustable) so the caster angle and center line would be correct after the lift was installed, which is a must. Next will be new coil springs and heavy-duty upper and lower ball joints for the added weight of the 17" wheels and big tires. Note: These engines need zinc (ZDDP) added to the oil due of the flat tappet lifters if you want them to run smooth and super quite like a sewing machine for many years.

I've had a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo with the 4.0 4x4 for a few years now, it had 192000 on it when I bought it for $3200. I put Amsoil in the engine, differentials, transmission, transfer case, brake fluid and power steering fluid. I also used the Amsoil engine flush when I made the change over from conventional motor oil. I also use the Amsoil fuel system additive. I used to get 13 mpg roughly. Since I made the change I regularly get 19 to 20 mpg. I also run it in All Wheel Drive year round. It has 207000 miles on it and runs like a top. Just an FYI for WJ owners.

I always thought this was one of the best mid-sized SUVs for its time. I had a relative who live outside of Boston and except for the rear hatch not staying up, everything worked and it was loaned to me during my winter stay with them since the family was using a new RAV4. I would be one of the few people driving during a snowstorm on the Highway on my way to the ski areas up north in NH. Too bad they are building a lot of Expensive CRAP nowadays.

I clocked 180K miles / 300K km on a Wrangler TJ 2000 same I6 motor when sold after 18 years of ownership since new. The only failed part was the limited slip mechanism in the rear differential. Some of these cars have an "automatic climate control" that used a computer operated actuator motor to repeatedly push a blend door against its stops until the blend door or its axle separated or broke at low mileage,usually about or before the vehicle was two years old (most of the six cylinder cars had "manual" air conditioning and did better) the official fix involved tearing out the dashboard and I think moving the steering column to reach the evaporator and heater core box areas and the blend and recirculation doors areas to replace them with new parts that might just fail again although supposedly stronger than the originals-access to the heater core/blend doors/ac evaporator box is horrible in many newer cars- there is a jerryrig fix that involves cutting a hole or burning a hole with a small soldering pencil iron through plastic after taking the glove box out and accessing the blend door(s) through there and replacing with a metal heavy door and (I think I remember) a new heavy metal axle that accepts a hex screw to attach--it was called "HeaterTreater" and at the end you had aluminum duct tape that you used to seal back the pieces of plastic you cut open -since having done that I think best to keep the electric connector to the actuator motor unplugged until you want to change from cold to hot or vice versa--you take the glove box off again to do that) when part of the blend door fails you begin to get cold air out of some of the dash air registers and when the whole thing fails (there is actually a second blend door behind a partition with its own actuator) you get nothing but cold air no matter how high you turn the "temperature control" knobs out of all the dash air registers and even the heater floor outlets and defrost outlets

I dunno. I had a 98 Jeep Grand Cherokee with 5.9 liter engine (special edition, not many). In 2013 the engine caught fire while on a 5 mile local trip) and the vehicle was a total loss. Never buying another one.

The 4.0l was alright, just horrible on gas. Sold mine, bought an older Ford Ranger with the all to familiar Lima four banger. Lol 28mpg, not bad!

I've had 3 Rangers. Great dependable, easy to maintain. Just Don buy the Edge with the step side, a sheet of 4x8 plywood won't fit between the bedrooms! The straight side a sheet will slide in with the tail date! The clutch will wear out if you get stupid about towing heavy loads! Lots of parts stores use them to delivery trucks! Had one that had 328000 on it . Loaded it to a friend and it came back with a slipping clutch!

@@markmccarty9793 What size engine was in your Ranger? Mine has a Manual transmission. I don't tow with it. Bought it for camping and the good fuel Economy. It's a 94 with a few miles, still runs like a top👍

Yea, that 4 liter is a hoss, but it'll pull more than it can stop! I've had a 2.3, drove a 3litter, and a 2.5. The 2.5 is the way to go with a 5 speed! A good errands runner, take the trash off, take a disassembles engine to the machine shot, run errands. The extended cab will hold a week's Wirth on groceries ot slide 10-12 sheets of plywood over the tail gate! The early 2.3 got better gas milage, but the 2.5 had noticeably more torque! Ger an extended cab, you'll be surprised what will fit back there! Lot of auto supply stores still use them here.

Yep, an f150 with a 300 straight 6 will drag it backwards! I've had 2 Rangers. Great little delivery trucks. Mine had the 4 speed 300, put av5 speed in it! Picked up 4mpg and still pull the gates of Hell down, but it didn't have air-conditioning!

@@markmccarty9793 The 300 inline was an excellent engine. I had an inline six in my Mercury Capri. Bought with high miles, drove it for years. Sold it to a friend that ended up driving it for years lol.

Im looking for a 2015 toyota hilux it comes in 2.7 gasoline or a 2.8 Turbo deisel. The deisel has alot more torque and a little better mile/gallon but costs more. I can buy either with about the same miles my question is which engine will last longer the 2.7 gasoline or the 2.8 turbo deisel

I think two people were kind to reply to my request about what year that Jeep might be. I received an email noting there's a reply but it did not go to the actual reply when I clicked on it. And, I can't seem to find my original post. So, thank you to those who did reply! Only KZbin Logo Andrew Christiansen's name appeared. I appreciate it!

Great views of Narraganset Bay, nice sunsets because it faces west and the best part, it's 100% free. Great place to bring the family and the dog if you have one. Cheers Scotty!

Bought a 2008 JGCL 17 months ago. It only had 51K on it when I bought it. Its got the 3.7 V8. Its got 96 less cubic inches then my 68 Roadrunner but only 20 less HP. Boy that thing is zippy. The only thing that I replaced was the catalytic converter and that was still under warranty. I''ll be dead and buried by the time it reaches 100K.

Still no replacement for displacement.. the latter would out torque this newer crap we are subjected to now.. not always about hp.. look at heavy trucks engines.. only throw out 5-600 hp BUT almost a literal Ton of torque.
