Several things are wrong with this pitch that still bother me: None of the dragons pointed out that this is basically a “squirrel suit” that already exists and functions similar to this. The novelty of his design however is when he said that you would be flying with the clouds not through them; nobody asked him how. Kevin O’Leary’s proposition is actually very fair and has contingency in case of his death during the test. The fact that the creator of the design mentioned that Kevin would profit off his death shows that not even he believes in his own design which is not a good sign from an entrepreneur. He said it’s going “to work”, then if so he should have never mentioned the word “death”. Think of Kevin’s deal as an insurance policy for the investor in the off chance it fails to fund his project. The truth of the matter is is that the designer would eventually have to test his design eventually if he wants it to make into reality, why not have an investor cover the possibility of your death so that your family can benefit from your invention? Again it shows he has no faith in his own design. Lastly no one mentioned the actual design of the suit: the arms go in the ‘beak’ of the suit instead of in the wings, leaving nothing to steer yourself. You wouldn’t be able to dodge obstacles in your way and should have been the first thing to bring up against that particular design. Instead they chose to poke fun at him.

The problem is that he doesn’t even have a prototype. That would imply a functional design which he doesn’t have. He has a concept for which he hasn’t worked out any of the engineering. I’m guessing the costs of making this a reality that could even get you to the testing phases is way more than 100k. He deserved to be mocked for failing to approach this in even a slightly serious manner. His foolish suggestion that he could build something like this is absolutely insane. This isn’t a flight suit - he’s envisioning some kind of sophisticated glider.

People seem to not understand that coming up with a big idea that would be neat and make money is the EASY part. Execution and making it profitable is the hard part. I want personal jets that allow people to just unpack something from their trunk and fly to work. There..see? Easy. Now actually executing that in a profitable, safe and marketable way is next to impossible right now unless you're all in with a team of experts and loads of startup money. People on this show don't seem to understand that. The sharks/dragons are looking for something very straightforward...you've come up with the idea, got it going off the ground, have sales to show the demand, and now you just need money and connections to kick it off.
