As someone who started out as an oversized cyclist I agree with the product idea and think the branding works too . "Normal" jerseys are designed such that every jersey I bought at the time would be either too tight around waist or too oversize for me. And FLAB completely fits my mindset for exercising too. I bike because its fun, to get healthier and to keep my blood pressure and blood sugar under control, not to someday be "the skinny lad at the front". I find that I'm always near the back and less lean compared to the athletic types but it doesn't matter too much as long as I'm burning calories and keeping my heart healthy. Somehow or other this meant that I wound up developing the exact same mindset as the owner. If I'm not going to accept that I'm the FLAB and enjoy it, I would probably have quit being a cyclist. It's a little similar to research I find where if you don't accept you'll always be clueless compared to the actual total sum of knowledge available and just enjoy the process of discovery you'll get disheartened and quit. The point is not everyone is in it to be the "winner" and I think a lot of these people have a similar attitude of endearment to being the so-called "underdog" or the FLAB. And now I know that there is a jersey that not only acknowledges my existence but also is specifically catered to what was my body type? I should have done more research when buying my jerseys... But glad to see the company is doing well and is helping to get more oversize people into cycling. Kudos to the owners.
@tuumification3 жыл бұрын
Exactly. I plod along at my own pace. If I have to get off and push the bike up a hill then I will do so and feel no shame. Pushing a bike up a hill is not easy! I am pleased to see FLAB doing well. I have bought a couple of things from them and it was comfy and good quality. I like their brand and think the owners have got it right. For example, everyone in the office at FLAB goes together for a weekly exercise session in work time, either Monday morning or Friday afternoon. The owners have said they prefer to get everyone actively involved rather than give out discount cards for people to spend in isolation. Every get together is in work time, never in an employee's own time. I think this is very respectful towards their employees.

I don’t care what the dragons say, this was a good idea! I’m not overweight or middle aged, but I need an XL-XXL size for the upper body and it’s a pain in the damn arse and sack finding anything that fits right like this and I’m sorry but the spandex only looks okay on the really slender blokes who shout at you when you are cycling in front of them on the cycle path 👌🏻😂

I didn't think it was necessarily as terrible as they said, there could absolutely be a market to ride the wave of. just bc the dragons tell you it's not good doesn't mean you should automatically ditch the brand. they are a source of great advice on the whole bc they know business, but they might miss it sometimes. i wonder if they got the brand going today out of curiosity, i thought the quirky might be marketable if done right

Most overweight people are overconscious about their stubborn weightproblem. Most try to hide it. But i guarantee it is something that do bother most overweight people in different degrees. I lost 5 stone proudly cycling in my FLAB kit. When I order more my size comes down and that has been a huge incentive. Before I found FLAB the alternative was cotton gear that absorb sweat, sticks to the skin and stinks to high heaven. It isn't about fashion and looking good, it's about finding kit that fits and does the job and FLAB filled a huge gap in the market. Try riding 60 miles non stop in jeans and t shirt but make sure you carry plenty sterile dressings. Well done FLAB and keep up the good work.
