I agree, but I think that their branding (unintentionally) just adds to the teasing and making fun of people for being overweight or out of shape. There's most certainly a market for the product of plus sized sports wear, but under this brand? With the logo and design so excessively blunt and (in my opinion) flat out ugly? I wouldn't invest either personally.

@@kullenberg no, many hetero men don't have a clue about fashion so their wives help them out because more women know about fashion than their male counterparts. For eg: I just saw a poll on facebook where it asked "underdressed or overdressed to an event" and a TON of men said "I refuse to wear a suit ever, underdressed cuz no one is going to tell me how to dress, underdressed because I will always be me" which gives you an indication that the majority (at least in that case) are clueless. A friend of mine (former fashion model) started a men's consulting business where she helps do make overs in appearance, clothing, glasses, and recommends courses and seminars. She is doing well because generally speaking, men DO need help in this area.

As someone who started out as an oversized cyclist I agree with the product idea and think the branding works too . "Normal" jerseys are designed such that every jersey I bought at the time would be either too tight around waist or too oversize for me. And FLAB completely fits my mindset for exercising too. I bike because its fun, to get healthier and to keep my blood pressure and blood sugar under control, not to someday be "the skinny lad at the front". I find that I'm always near the back and less lean compared to the athletic types but it doesn't matter too much as long as I'm burning calories and keeping my heart healthy. Somehow or other this meant that I wound up developing the exact same mindset as the owner. If I'm not going to accept that I'm the FLAB and enjoy it, I would probably have quit being a cyclist. It's a little similar to research I find where if you don't accept you'll always be clueless compared to the actual total sum of knowledge available and just enjoy the process of discovery you'll get disheartened and quit. The point is not everyone is in it to be the "winner" and I think a lot of these people have a similar attitude of endearment to being the so-called "underdog" or the FLAB. And now I know that there is a jersey that not only acknowledges my existence but also is specifically catered to what was my body type? I should have done more research when buying my jerseys... But glad to see the company is doing well and is helping to get more oversize people into cycling. Kudos to the owners.

Exactly. I plod along at my own pace. If I have to get off and push the bike up a hill then I will do so and feel no shame. Pushing a bike up a hill is not easy! I am pleased to see FLAB doing well. I have bought a couple of things from them and it was comfy and good quality. I like their brand and think the owners have got it right. For example, everyone in the office at FLAB goes together for a weekly exercise session in work time, either Monday morning or Friday afternoon. The owners have said they prefer to get everyone actively involved rather than give out discount cards for people to spend in isolation. Every get together is in work time, never in an employee's own time. I think this is very respectful towards their employees.

Before I found FLAB the alternative was cotton gear that absorb sweat, sticks to the skin and stinks to high heaven. It isn't about fashion and looking good, it's about finding kit that fits and does the job and FLAB filled a huge gap in the market. Try riding 60 miles non stop in jeans and t shirt but make sure you carry plenty sterile dressings. Well done FLAB and keep up the good work.

Their clothes are a novelty item.. You buy one as a joke, or you gift one as a joke. Once the novelty wears off no one will remember the brand's name. Its not going to be a mainstream brand that everyone would want to wear. I think the Dragons are looking for bigger opportunities.

It's a shame, because at the core of it they had a good idea, but the dragons were right about the name and having it written all over the clothes. While some would find it funny and empowering, as a brand they can't limit themselves like that.

I don’t think I would’ve invested because it seems highly limited from an investor stand point, but the name is good. Poking fun at yourself shows other people that you know where you currently stand and you’re working to improve. It’s liable to get others involved in your journey to get into shape. When I go to the gym, being a bit outta shape, the other gym goers are happy to give advice and motivation.

All those who were dissing this need to read some bike mags - this a brilliant idea for people who are not afraid of ‘stating the bleeding obvious’. Well done guys - keep persevering. The dragons were wrong with the comments. Shame on them!!

@@bellmeisterfulI'm certain op meant "own their weight" in regards to acknowledging and accepting that they're overweight. That isn't a bad thing because that's the first step in fixing your weight. Not 'giving in'.

Wow! I didn't FLATB had appeared on the Den. The Dragons totally missed the point (and a great business opportunity). Now one of the biggest brands of cycling apparel and proudly worn by all their customers - including me! Also possibly the reason why the industry leaders make larger size clothing nowadays too.
