I didn't like her... and then I actually watched the show. It's hard because it's one thing to just see the casting and nothing else because the show isn't airing yet and you have this mental picture of what it could be and you can see it not working, and then it's another thing to actually watch the show when it is available and for me, it's impossible not to like her in that role. Sometimes it happens like that. Some casting decision sounds strange to you, but the folks behind the show saw something in her that you haven't and you get to see it once the show starts airing.

I also had my doubts, because she looks so different from game Ellie, before the show aired. But, Bella sold me on her opening scene with the Fireflies. She captured the attitude and mannerisms of Ellie perfectly. She's nailed it ever since.

💖Ellie's smile💖 MUST BE PROTECTED AT ALL COSTS !!!! the whole episode was just cute as heck, when they were dancing and she says "don't go" ... uuuh, i felt that ... and the ending WOW another masterpiece with next to no dialogue, and you don't even need dialogue, because you understand the characters. When she turns back to go help Joel ... ain't gonna lie, i cried. actions speak louder than words, and Ellie just said there "ain't no way in hell i'm letting you die too"

Love your reaction and analysis of the episode. Very abrupt ending to a touching episode. Ellie is so adorable. Even when she is angry. Bella Ramsey's performance is amazing. I forgot she is actually 19. There's no way Ellie is going to give up on Joel after that. I hope HBO doesn't 🙏 Like most people watching I haven't played the game. Unfortunately I saw spoilers based on the game sequel. It made me so angry. It sounds terrible. Hell No! If it happens I'm likely not watch season 2 and I won't be alone. As I said most viewers didn't play the game. Joel and Ellie are 99.9% why we watch. Atleast on TWD viewers had multiple regular characters worth caring about. Unfortunately this show doesn't have that. GOT also gave us multiple character to care about, but they tragically screwed that up and the ending. I also heard The last of us game sequel is extremely manipulative and has a very non linear time line that if left as is will not translate well on tv.

*spoiler warning - I’ll be vague enough so as not to spoil any more than what @SMavTMB knows, but you MAY be able to put context clues together if you’re not them* As a massive fan of both games, I’m always sad to see people who don’t want to experience the second because of the horrible thing. Yes, it’s horrible - but it gives us an opportunity to explore Ellie’s psyche in really beautiful ways. Part II introduces us to incredible new characters. And while the change is felt, it’s an exploration of human emotion and it’s done phenomenally. Also- I couldn’t disagree with the term “manipulative” more when discussing part II. It does have some non-linear storytelling, but so did this - this entire episode was a flashback. It’s no different.
