I seriously couldn't watch Joel cry, I tried so much not to tear up as well. Pedro is a fantastic actor!
@saviourself687
@saviourself687 Жыл бұрын
You shouldn't have had to. Joel doesn't cry or break down in the game, and the writers deliberately layering weakness in to his character is, imo, prestaging for how he turns out in the second game where they ruined him. The only sign that even has any sort of anxiety condition was added in the TLOU1 remake of the game, where a bottle of anti-anxiety pills are on his bedside table when Sarah explores the house. If you want an example of this systematic degradation of some of the best characters in TLOU1, look no further than Tommy. Too scared to ride out because he's about to become a father, but his pregnant 50+* year old wife can lead the patrol dealing with infected and bandits... Tommy is a coward but his communist girl boss wife is basically a super hero (and can also ignore menopause apparently). *(I did the math the writers never bothered to consider, assistant DA + a kid in 2000, she would need to be around 30 then + 23 = 53...) I have enjoyed some of the changes the show has made from the game, the Bill and Frank episode particularly. But it's starting to really show that the writers (and Druckman particularly) really don't like Joel's original quiet stoicism.

To clarify, Tommy wasn't refusing to let Joel stay with him: he refuses to GO with him and Ellie to the Fireflies, because of the responsibility to his new family and his community, on top of how afraid he is to slip back into his own violent ways if he goes back to living alongside his brother.

A couple of easter eggs from the sound in this episode. The chime sound when they show the horse riders coming over the hill is the sound in the game when you are prompted to press R3 and it gives you a hint or directs you back on the path. Also, the music after Joel and Ellie leave Jackson is the ending credits music in the first game.

Good reaction as usual. Not sure I agree with your assessment of not doing back to back gut punches. They’ve been doing it all season. Ep 1 Sarah, Ep2 Tess, Ep3 Bill and Frank, Ep4 the truck (ok maybe not), Ep 5 Sam and Henry. I’ve not played the game but I assume he lives at this point, otherwise you’d have a stronger reaction. Joel’s vulnerability this episode was awesome though. That scene and the scene with Ellie were great.

This is why this has been the only shooter video game that I like. There are so many video games out there where you can just turn off your feelings and become a killing machine, shooting and killing you way into getting better and better at such violence with no issues, but this game was different. It was created so that you feel remorse for killing, especially the NPCs you don't have to kill. (like most of the dogs) This world is still so far fetched but it to me allows me to feel the way I would feel if this were to really take place. to many of us, life is worth something and to just kill with no remorse is not in any way desirable.

I was definitely surprised seeing Rains Fall from Red Dead Redemption 2 in The Last of Us! I recognized him instantly from his voice. Episode 6 was fantastic!! I actually think I liked how things played out and performed in Jackson in the show even more than in the game! It felt more emotionally grabbing, and seeing Joel open up…Living up to Troy Baker’s performance as Joel was a tall order, but Pedro Pascal somehow raised the bar even higher! In some ways, I actually think Pedro delivered even bigger! Hearing that music from the first game too, and I think it was perfectly placed. I have almost nothing negative to say about Episode 6, expect for how it ended. The way it happened, to me, it just didn’t have any punch until Ellie was trying to get Joel up. The injury itself I feel happened in a way that felt pretty underwhelming. That’s just my opinion though. Pretty much my only complaint to an otherwise near-perfect episode.

I just can't buy Joel and Ellie's relationship. I don't believe that these two would eventually go to the ends of the earth for each other. At most, I know this Joel laughs at diarrhea jokes....but that's the extent I've seen these two bond. It helps that in the game, they have traversed so many life or death situations, and you believe that it'd make them bond, but when omit the action, you lose that aspect of their relationship. In hindsight, this series was doomed from the start. The soul of the game, is Ellie and Joel's relationship...whenever that happens, the chemistry of the actors and characters is near impossible to capture.
