This f’ing mouthfill - How to take a mouthfill charge
The Mouthfill charge is an airshifting technique which involves moving the air from the lungs to the oral cavity by contracting the abdominal muscles whilst performing an M sound.
Charging with an M sound will allow you to look like a real pelican and fill the back of the throat with precious air… You can then close the f’ing glottis and do your deep dive without the need of shifting air to the mouth ever again.
Think of it this way, mouthfill without M sound is like eating chips without licking your fingers, if you don’t, you’re not doing it right.
So this is how to practice a good mouthfill charge drill underwater:
- Take the last breath, take a full inhale
- In FIM head over to -5m and stop holding the line
- Drop the f’ing tongue down and relax it
- Start the M sound
- Tilt the head back so to fill the back of the throat fully whilst performing M sound
- Lock the glottis
- Bring your head back to straight position
- Relax the tension in the back of the tongue
- Relax the belly
- Start the dive
